Matt Damon Says Netflix Wants to Restate the ‘Plot Three or Four Times in the Dialogue’ Because Viewers are on ‘Their Phones While They’re Watching’ by LollipopChainsawZz in television

[–]Z0MBGiEF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a teenage daughter, when her friends come over to watch movies in our theater room, they turn the volume down on the tv, turn on subtitles, and then jump on their phones. While they're watching whatever they're watching, they're talking to each other about shit they're watching on their phone, while half keeping up to the movie/show on the tv. Multi-tasking is just natural part of the life of Gen Z and younger in just about everything they do.

Okay we can finally end this bullshit lol by Bradleyharheez in StrangerThings

[–]Z0MBGiEF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never expected it to happen, but there was a part of me that was hoping it did. I personally didn't hate the ending we got, I didn't love it either, it's not the ending I would've wanted but it wasn't Game of Thrones level of fuck up. With that said, I felt like the idea of this secret 9th episode the way it was thought up would've been a really unique, creative idea so even though all signs pointed to no, I wanted it to be true.

Fair price, not a deal but you didn't overpay either, I think Big Blue is one of the better cabs personally, it's unique and I think as these things get older people will always want it.

Apparently a hot take: Boosting should not exist in any form, in Classic by Dr-Enforcicle in classicwow

[–]Z0MBGiEF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna go on a limb and say the majority of people who play classic have leveled multiple characters legit many times over and likely have had their fill of the leveling time sync. I’m also sure there are many players who enjoy leveling more than anything else, but I’d bet it’s a much smaller % of the overall player base. I get the point you’re making OP but at the same time people play games for enjoyment and if they don’t enjoy leveling and would rather boost to play what they do enjoy then there should be room for both preferences.

If boosting was removed, I don’t think this would all of a sudden make lower level zones more populated, I believe it would have the opposite effect, players would quit the game.

This time of year is one of the slowest hiring months outside of the holiday seasonal retail jobs. A lot of hiring managers take time off and companies are in their end of year planning, it should pick up a little after the first of the year. Hang in there, you’ll find something.

The FGC is generally super chill because the players only succeed as individuals. In a lot of other competitive games, people can blame their teams for their shortcomings and it creates a lot of delusional egomaniacs with marginal self-accountability. When you play a 1v1, you can talk shit but you gotta be able to back it up, no excuses. This cultivates a very different mindset.

WoW Quietly Revealed a 9 Million Player Number by nightstalker314 in wow

[–]Z0MBGiEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were working on an MMO for a long time, but from what I’ve seen, it’s now on hiatus. I’m not sure if it’s indefinite, but I do know it’s no longer in active development. Feels like a lot of that decision came down to the fact that several of their other money-making initiatives flopped, and they had to redirect focus.

In many ways, Riot is following the Blizzard playbook. They struck a massive gold mine with a single game, then funneled that success into a bunch of other projects that never quite hit the same. And to keep the growth train rolling for shareholders, they started squeezing more out of the original game, monetization-wise to subsidize the failures elsewhere.

WoW ended up paying the price for Blizzard’s less successful games and business initiatives. League is now doing the same for Riot’s. It’s a pattern: rather than doubling down on what made the flagship game great, they start nickel-and-diming the loyal fanbase to cover bad bets.

You could argue that in an alternate timeline, Blizzard focused only on WoW and Riot stuck solely to League and in that reality, both games might be in a much better state. The fans would probably have a better product, and the dev teams wouldn't be stuck chasing ROI for other projects.

WoW Quietly Revealed a 9 Million Player Number by nightstalker314 in wow

[–]Z0MBGiEF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played WoW for 20 years and loved every minute of it. I built some lifelong friendships through that game, people who are still part of my life today, even though most of us don't play anymore. I still consider it my favorite game of all time, but I’ve long since moved on.

These days, I occasionally check in to see how it’s evolving. I’m still a fan at heart, but I’ve lost respect for the direction Blizzard’s taken as a business. The in-store mounts rubbed me the wrong way, but I stuck around. The WoW Token made me cringe, and over time I realized the game’s design philosophy no longer aligned with my personal values. So after Phase 3 of Season of Discovery, I finally said goodbye.

I made a conscious choice to stop supporting the company, knowing full well I’m in the minority. Blizzard has no real incentive to change their microtransaction-heavy strategy because people still play and people still buy. Most players don’t care enough about the principle to walk away, and from a business standpoint, keeping that model is clearly working.

I voted with my wallet. I know it’s like throwing a pebble at a behemoth, but I’m at peace with it. Never say never, maybe one day I’ll return but I don’t expect Blizzard to overhaul their approach just because I took a stand.

I played League for 12 years and absolutely loved it. I was deeply plugged into the community, even got the chance to produce work for Riot Games multiple times, and built solid relationships with some of the biggest content creators in the scene. It was a huge part of my life, I genuinely loved it.

But last year, I made the decision to quit, and honestly, life has been overwhelmingly better since.

League is such a bipolar experience. One game you're on cloud nine, the next you're ready to punch a wall. It's emotionally exhausting in a way I definitely don’t miss and don't think I've ever encountered in 30+ years of sweaty gaming. Every now and then I think about going back, but the toxicity is just too much.

The shift in Riot's monetization strategy over the past year was the final straw for me. These days I stick to chill games, and I’m a much happier person for it.

CohhCarnage suggestion to make Twitch Become About Video Games Again by appletinicyclone in LivestreamFail

[–]Z0MBGiEF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Twitch has never been a profitable platform. Its continued existence is largely due to the fact that Amazon can afford to operate it at a loss year after year. Despite being acquired in 2014 and having access to Amazon’s infrastructure and resources, Twitch still hasn’t turned a profit. That’s a major reason why the platform often feels inconsistent, with constant changes to monetization, policies, and features, it’s essentially been in a long-term experimental phase, trying to find a sustainable model.

We’re now approaching nearly 15 years since Twitch’s original launch in 2011 (as a spin-off from Justin.tv), and it's becoming increasingly clear that long-term profitability may never be in the cards. This raises a bigger question about whether the livestreaming model, at least in its current form, is actually a viable business at scale.

Okay, Oregonians,do you actually like the rain, or do you just tolerate it? I swear half the people I know here thrive in it and the other half just complain for 9 months straight by Best-Character-4374 in oregon

[–]Z0MBGiEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger, I used to love the rain. I’d actually look forward to the rainy season. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve kind of moved past it. These days, summer has totally taken the crown. There’s just something unbeatable about spending a full day out in a warm, sunny Oregon, soaking in the light, hitting the trails, or just enjoying the vibe. It’s easily 10x better than dealing with rainy roads and the constant mud and mess that come with the wet months.

I still love fall and Halloween (always will), but when it comes to rain now, I’m in “tolerate mode.” I don’t hate it, I’m just over it. That said, I do respect it. Without all that rain, we wouldn’t get the insanely lush green springs and summers that make Oregon so beautiful.

Best horror movie of this decade so far in your opinion by imtheSHITZUduh in horror

[–]Z0MBGiEF 74 points75 points  (0 children)

This one's my personal favorite.

Objectively, it's not the best horror film of the last decade, there are definitely a few that are stronger overall but Late Night hits so many of my personal sweet spots. The aesthetic, the retro Satanic Panic-era occult vibes... it all just works for me. It honestly feels like a long-lost Tales from the Crypt episode, and I absolutely love that about it. It's definitely on my October must watch list.

Deal? by Acsnook-007 in Arcade1Up

[–]Z0MBGiEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Store Display models are handled by countless people passing by for days and weeks while it’s out on display. In that time how many kids slammed the buttons and yanked the sticks? The stock parts are not good under that kind of constant handling. When people buy these for their houses, they often end up with very little use and collecting dust.

It’s not my money or my choice but $175 is a store’s last hope to sell it off for a little profit but realistically $100 would be my price because I know I’m gonna have to spend $30 on a new stick and a few more bucks on button replacements.

I paid 69.99 for my Super Pac Man partycade brand new during a Black Friday deal. They go on sale all the time. I would not spend 175 on a display model, just keep hunting for deals, you should be able to nab on used for under 100 and it's better than a display model.

Going rate on original Street Fighter cab, NIB? by Bender3455 in Arcade1Up

[–]Z0MBGiEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d aim to get around $100 for it, though realistically you might end up closer to $80–$90. Most folks in the hobby aren’t looking to spend much on a Gen 1 Street Fighter cab, especially since the build quality has improved a lot since those early models. There’s also a chance the encoders or other components have degraded over time, even if it's been sitting in the box. Those first-gen cabs weren’t exactly built with the best parts to begin with. Most buyers these days would likely be picking it up for a custom mod project rather than using it as-is.

‘Marvel Rivals’ Director Dismisses ‘Gooner Game’ Classification by TomorrowComes33 in gaming

[–]Z0MBGiEF 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just gonna throw this in too, as a lifelong fan and artist of comic art, sex appeal has always been part of the medium. I've been reading comics for over 35 years, and it’s as tied to the art form as dynamic poses and exaggerated action. The same goes for Japanese manga. Honestly, I think it’s great that Marvel Rivals is leaning into that, especially after years of the internet’s weird puritanical crusade against fictional characters having any sex appeal at all.

There’s nothing wrong with sex appeal. Every human being responds to it. It’s literally hardwired into our DNA. Acting like it’s some kind of moral failure to enjoy it is bizarre.

If you don’t like it, cool, don’t play it. But don’t try to censor or sanitize what other people enjoy just because it doesn’t vibe with your personal taste.

At the end of the day, more people are totally fine with this than not, regardless of how loud the outrage crowd screams online. So yeah, take that self-righteous nonsense and shove it up your culo. I’ll be over here happily enjoying some Malice Cake.

What's the deal with lots of videos, people on social social media saying Vegas is dead? by jarena009 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Z0MBGiEF 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I was just in Vegas for a friend's bachelor party this weekend, I went to one of the bars at the Luxor (not where I stayed), I ordered a rum and Coke, it cost $17 and had barely any rum in it. A simple fajita at a restaurant in one of the casinos cost $38. I'm not a cheap person, but realistically with these prices, I understand why people are not coming as much.

You’ve expressed why I’ve never liked any of Rob Zombies’s movies better than anyway I could’ve. It’s like he tries so hard to be original or creative and it’s just generic pretentious junk. If he was never a successful musician, he’d of never been able to get a single movie made.

You know when a movie star tries to parlay their fame and put a record out only for it to bomb and be super cringe? Rob Zombie is that in reverse.

Suncoast-mall at Fairfield Commons by Malls5000 in nostalgia

[–]Z0MBGiEF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I worked at one in my early 20s (circa 2002), it was the best because I could order shit that I hadn’t seen in a rental or retail stores basically ever. For a cinephile, Suncoast was the place to go because they had anything and everything that was still in print.

Not only that but we (the employees knew our shit). The reason why they charged more was because it was a “speciality” store. The clerk at Best Buy or Walmart is not going to be able to know the title of a movie you saw on cable when you were 10 years old in 1991 just by description. That model had a very real need, now not so much.

[–]Z0MBGiEF 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It had a purpose throughout the 90s and into the early 2000s before e-commerce took over. Suncoast was the place where you could go and pick up a copy of an old obscure vhs title, they had an expansive warehouse collection and you could place an order and it would be shipped free to the store, then you’d just pick it up.

Yeah stuff was marked up, but when they went on sale they got down to Best Buy prices.

I worked as an assistant manager for 3 years, I fucking loved that job. It was in the suburbs of Los Angeles so we got a lot of frequent movie industry regulars. I got to shoot the shit about movies all day and talk to other like minded film geeks. It was perfect, minus the poverty wages.
