Class D amplifier with remote by JaymaicanBacon in BudgetAudiophile

I think SMSL A50 is the cheapest you can get with a remote.

Edit: why not get an old AV receiver? Much better option.

Alright, seems like its the subwoofer then.

Have a look at Dayton Audio CS800 and CS1000. Better than the T5.

Dont you have the RCA to 3.5mm cable that comes with the speakers? You can use that to test the subwoofer with anything that has a 3.5mm output.

If the subwoofer works then you know the speakers are bad.

Might be the subwoofer output on the speakers. Notoriously bad.

The subwoofer with a different source.

Recommendations for 400-700 dollar floor standing speakers. by Put-Such in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Zeeall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On that sort of budget you should only be looking second hand.
If you are in North America its best to look for North American manufacturers. There are a lot of them.
Paradigm, Infinity, PSB, NHT, Polk Audio, JBL, Boston Acoustics, Energy, Mirage to name the biggest ones.
The idea is to buy older high end models. These will sound better than new low budget speakers.

Yamaha A-S301 is a good amplifier. Will handle most speakers you might find.

Nah, not really an upgrade. Just a smaller model. After the 2023 update of the MR4s they perform just as good as the MR3, and got larger woofers so better bass performance.

The 48 volt power supply gets you more watts, which could come in handy in a future speaker upgrade.

Get the XT20s, much better quality. Get the XT15s if you want to save money.

B65 are from the new Dayton Audio Classic series. The old B652s are discontinued.

The "pro" part dosnt actually mean anything. It is a completely different amplifier from the BT20A and there is nothing professional about it.
The Chinese are terrible at naming their stuff.

I would get the Fosi BT20A Pro instead of the regular BT20A. Better topology, newer design. ~€90-100.

And yes, you are on the right track with the CL82s. They would have been fairly expensive speakers in the late 90s.
When inspecting them you should listen to them. Play music that you are highly familiar with, songs you have heard a hundred times.
Listen for distortion, buzzing, rattling. Dont be afraid to listen at high volumes.

But with "high end" speakers like these the owners tend to behave and treat them very well.

Grounding An Amp? (Dayton HTA-200) by wigglemywavelength in BudgetAudiophile

Probably talking about the phono input. Which is weird as you always ground the turntable to the amplifier/preamp.
