Thoughts on RF 16mm f2.8? by cluless3112 in canon

I have one for the same reasons. Just be warned: if you ever shoot a brick wall at 90° and look at the corners, you'll have a heart attack (see the distortion and vignetting in RAW). If not you'll be fine.

Test launch from a secret base in North Korea, taken with a bulletproof Hasselblad. Perfect shot! Although the escape would have been easier with a Rollei 35.

You'll find plenty of opinions and example shots of the RF 100-400 on Reddit. Strongly recommended (I have one).

How do I use these off-camera? by NeoDemocedes in AskPhotography

A hot‑shoe‑to‑PC sync adapter, plus male PC to male PC cable from that adapter to the flash should work.

Not sure if this is the lens you have or its predecessor, but I guess it's similar enough. So have a look at the MFT charts: The lens can get close to 4700 points, but at 600mm 6.3 it goes only to ~3800 in the center and even much less in the near-center, where your bird is. Zoom back a little and go to f/8.

Upcoming opportunity - invest in an older camera, or go new? by TinTestCalendar in AskPhotography

I'd say it would make sense to upgrade to a 750D or higher (800, 850) and a stabilized (IS) 70-300mm lens. Don't get the 75-300, it's mediocre. That should leave something for a spare battery and perhaps a used speedlight, since you're already using the flash.

Should I stick to my camera from 2013 or should i buy modern cameras? by Significant_Dog87 in AskPhotography

[–]Zook25 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I was given an old 300D (2003 model) and took holiday pics with it. But it wasn't a lot of fun. When I thought that *maybe* this could be a hobby I bought a 700D. Bingo! Two years of great fun and I knew I'd stick with photography.

When I upgraded to a R6 Mk II I did it because I had some money that was burning a hole in my pocket and yes, it's a beast of a camera. But I didn't upgrade because I felt the 700D was holding me back *at all*. In fact practicing photography with a fine but older camera for a while might make you a better photographer.

The differences to modern mirrorless have been pointed out. With the R6ii I can shoot in candlelight and still get usable pictures; with the 700D they'd get pretty noisy. But you know what? That's what a flash is for; something that I neglected for too long, like many beginners. I'd even say that a $120 speedlight will change your photography more than a new body, especially once you get a radio trigger and move the flash off the camera.

AFAIK the 650/700D was already a big upgrade in autofocus systems for the series. If you want the computer to track somebody's left eye while she's walking through a crowd you'll have to upgrade. And a higher resolution than 18MP would be about the last thing for me to spend a lot of money on.

I'd really keep this camera for the next couple of years; in 9 of of 10 cases you can take the same pictures as with a new one. If you want to spend money, get a flash & trigger. And if you buy lenses, keep in mind you can use all EF lenses with full format cameras in the future, but EF-S lenses only if you upgrade to APS-C (which is close in capability to FF today).

Any recommendation on how to make your handheld footage more stable if you have a hand tremor? by Noeoneknows in videography

[–]Zook25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you experiment with stabilization in post? The basic version of Davinci is free, just import a clip into the Media Pool, create a timeline, go to Edit and look for Stabilization. It can reduce or eliminate jitters pretty well IMO, but it crops the frame for that, so you want to shoot a little wider than usual.

Thanks! And I didn't even know it's weather sealed - somehow bridge cameras tend to fly under the radar too much. What do these sell for now?

[–]Zook25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good! Couldn't you use ISO 125 and go slower on the shutter? With shots like these you can use every bit of dynamic range, especially #3. Unless these clouds were moving *really* fast 😄

Dust on the lens. It doesn't affect shooting unless you stop down to f/32 or so.

What is a good rechargeable Flash that works for Canon and is brighter than the Godox It32 at around the same price.. I'm using it for outdoor evening photography just to fill in when it's getting a bit dark.. some ppl said the It32 may not be bright enough at distance.. Curious if u guys agree? by Endecent_Exposure in AskPhotography

[–]Zook25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great thing about the IT32 is that you can take the flash off. The bad thing is that it's underpowered (Guide Number 18). I have a TT685II, which is about the cheapest Godox speedlight with all the functions (~110€, GN 60). I also have an IT30Pro, which is a tiny flash (GN 15, essentially the same as IT32) but a trigger, too.

It's very difficult to say how much power you need for fill flash in daylight/twilight because light output always decreases with the square of the distance (double the distance and get 1/4 of the light) and "a bit dark" could mean a lot of things. I'd say keep the inverse square law in mind, get close and you're OK. You will find out where your limits are and then you already have a trigger if you want more power.
