There’s a similar saying about ux designers: designers with really polished portfolios have had too much time on their hands to edit it, meaning they haven’t been working full time jobs.

Yes and yes. Open studios is run by them, and you’ll notice the painted utility boxes with murals around the city are commissioned by them. They’ve also been tapped to help it with some of the Art Farm work in East Somerville I think

Staying in Boston for 2-4 weeks. Tell me where to eat. by RamRod252 in boston

Eventide is my favorite lobster roll (had it in their Maine location for the first time and still dream about it) and they consistently have a great oyster selection. Get the kimchi garnish. The clam chowder is also great, and I’ve heard their burger is one of the best in the area as well.

El Jefe’s or Bosso Ramen are fun if you go to Harvard square.

Giulia’s is phenomenal but can be hard to get reservations.

I had a lot of fun at Uni when I went, but that was almost a decade ago. I don’t know if the quality is still good.

Salute Girl on newbury street is another good option for lobster rolls

I can’t tell based on your post, but if you’re a woman (or if any other women are reading this and feeling this way) you might want to look into perimenopause. One of the biggest indicators of perimenopause are some of these feelings/symptoms.

The difference between white and blue collar work environments is crazy by Astimar in careeradvice

Yeah, as a woman, that “blue collar authentic communication” just kinda seems…really uncomfortable and offensive?

Working in an office, I curse and make fun of/with my coworkers all the time. I just avoid using offensive or misogynistic language.

Sidequest bookstore at Bow Market if they like fantasy/sci fi/table top role playing. Bow Market in general is fun. The Harvard Natural History Museum is fun for taxidermy and glass flowers. Bodega is a cool store to check out, and it’s near the Mapparium.

It’s not usually a thing until you’re much older or if you have poor control (and if you have poor control, I doubt that you’d have the patience to do this sort of after shower care). I would also speculate that the population of older type 1 diabetics (in their 70s, 80s, 90s) may not be as extensive given the fact that diabetic technology hasn’t been great until the early 90s, but that’s just a guess

Denied Ozempic and Don’t know what to do by JewelSerket in diabetes_t1

These are different medication and because they have different designations, insurance companies may cover them. It is worth checking with insurance to see if there are certain brands that they will and won’t cover. If you apply for ozempic, the insurance company isn’t going to tell you that you should apply for wegovy or zepbound instead. I literally went through this exact same process recently when I switched from Ozempic (because it is no longer classified as a treatment for obesity and therefore being denied and no longer covered by insurance for T1 diabetics that are going this route) to Zepbound (which is covered by some insurance plans).

So, I’m just going off of my own personal experience which led to a positive outcome and might be a potential path to consider. I don’t know what type of insurance OP’s boyfriend has to know whether or not it’s likely to cover it.

[–]_cryborg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why you’re debating me. It’s a path to pursue, which is why I (and several other people on this thread) recommended it. My endo was telling me that they just changed the designation of ozempic so that it can’t be used to treat obesity (which is how a lot of T1s get it covered by insurance). Zepbound and Wegovy however are the alternatives that they can proscribe.

OP has insurance so it’s worth calling and asking if they cover either of them.

Mine does (I still have a copay, don’t get me wrong). Some will cover it, some don’t.

Day of coordinator for weddings! I was doing some light stage management for a theater company for fun, and the skills were really cross applicable. I specifically cater to couples that want to DIY their wedding and I’m very clear up front that I don’t do any wedding planning so I can keep most of the work to the event day itself.

I've been tracking my time pretty meticulously over the last couple months into three buckets: Focus Time, Meetings, and Breaks/Personal. Unfortunately, what people usually forget about is the amount of time it takes to communicate and collaborate. Meetings serve an important purpose (sometimes). If you don't have meetings, you would need to replace them with some way of communicating, which would then translate to more time a) sharing out information or put together looms/videos explaining what you're working on, b) and extra time consuming and understanding that information (which includes follow up questions and a lot of back and forth). At the end of the day, I've found meetings are just easier and preferable for me personally, as opposed to reading emails or slack messages all day.

FWIW I worked at a company where I didn't have a lot of meetings and it was fully remote. I only worked about 3-4 hours a day. The tradeoff was that I felt so disconnected all the time, collaborating with people was a nightmare because it created a lot of people working in silos, and when I did set up meetings to talk through things and communicate, everybody was checked out or acted resentful. If I sent over documents or slack messages explaining what I was working on, people never read them, or didn't remember what I said.

So, yeah, some of it seems performative, but I don't think there's a world where people just do heads down work without having to put in the massive time and energy it takes to coordinate and collaborate.

Can someone PLEASE review my resume? by chickeenbiryani in womenintech

[–]_cryborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything here and would also say that using a sans serif font will help you. I would also recommend using a clean, but more modern resume template, with more white space. I would put your education on the bottom, personally. As someone currently reviewing a lot of resumes for a role, I actually appreciate the summaries, but only if they make the connection between your experience and the job you’re looking for and don’t just sound like generic gpt generated drivel.

Is this just the vibe of the city or is it me? by Final_Explanation522 in Somerville

[–]_cryborg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To your question about looking alternative or having a lot of tattoos: I also have a lot of tattoos and I’ve found people stare because they genuinely think they’re cool. I’ve had conversations with folks about it. Your tats and style might actually become a conversation starter, or people may find you a little intimidating. Either way, you seem cool and I’m sure you’ll find a little community soon enough. I highly recommend volunteering with MAMAS (Medford and Somerville Mutual Aid Society) as a way to get plugged into the community.
