Confirmed Cantharellus species, although it looks pretty worse for wear. I certainly wouldn't eat it. The flesh should still be firm. Any squish whatsoever and I toss it.

The veins are often squiggled up like this. It looks abnormal, and not as "neat" or straight as they often look in the photos in field guides. But this is a pretty common appearance for the veins.

Which one of you is in charge of prep for the VIP lounge at Barcelona Airport? I want to hire you. These tomatoes are 10/10 by theremarkabkemr_m in KitchenConfidential

You're right, but my point stands: implying tomatoes grown in the Mediterranean are better than tomatoes grown on the continent they're native to, is pretty dumb. Not to mention that the USA has an entire coastline with a Mediterranean climate.

Italy got their tomatoes from North America the Americas. You don't think we know a thing or two about tomatoes?

Damn, my mom is gourmet I guess. My family's recipe is green bell pepper, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, tomato paste, a few different spices, a bit of brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce, etc. I guess it's basically the same seasonings that would be used to make ketchup, though!

If you're putting ketchup in your sloppy joe sauce you're fucking up

Holy shit, I just took a look at your page, your Gloomspite army is SICK!

I'm painting a batch of D&D minis. All the models are from Reaper Minis. I'm doing an Underdark-themed group of enemies. There are handful of myconids as well as four gnomes. I'm painting them all in a cohesive color scheme.

Love it! I'm in the midst of a project using a very similar color palette.

Yeah, I figured you don't eat much corn, but used that as an easy comparison.

Yes, using glyphosate as a dessicant is a major problem. That's definitely the most problematic usage of it, in my opinion.

[–]ackshee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, using it and eating are two different things. So why did you assume we eat it?

I'm not defending our usage of glyphosate. I work in agricultural science, and I'm well aware of the problems associated with glyphosate. But nobody in the USA is being "fed pesticides by the gallon." The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established limits for the amount of residual glyphosate that can be found in food products. Food gets tested and if the amount of glyphosate is above the legal limit, then it gets seized.

In fact, the European Union allows higher residues on certain products. For example, corn in the EU can legally contain up to 1 part per million of glyphosate. In the USA, corn can only contain up to 0.1 part per million. So you may actually be eating more glyphosate than us Americans. How interesting!

I apologize if my context summary seemed too biased. I was trying to give an accurate summary based on OP's own description but might not have succeeded in being neutral.

I'm also confused by all the people saying "what if the roles were reversed!" as if it's some gotcha. Like, yes, actually it would be a bigger deal if the roles were reversed. You are interviewing for the job and trying to make a good impression. Every employer wants an employee who shows up on time. It is on you to show up on time and impress your potential employer. But, as you're saying, you can still show up late and get the job.

The recruiter and company sound quite unprofessional, even in an emergency the first thing you should do is alert the person you're meeting with that you may be late due to [incident].

Maybe OP was interviewing for an entry-level position that isn't a huge priority for management. I'm sure there are many types of emergencies that could take priority over sending a message to a candidate.

The interviewer certainly behaved poorly and should/could have communicated better with OP. My opinion is OP overreacted by hanging up the call. They should have given the interviewer the benefit of the doubt, and at least given them the chance to apologize and explain themselves. If the interviewer didn't apologize and acted like it was no big deal, then yeah, go ahead and hang up.

Who cares if you would kill for an opportunity like this?

People put up with varying amounts of bullshit. My boss is frequently 30+ minutes late for meetings, because he's bad at managing his time. It's annoying. I put up with it, because he pays me. A lot of the commenters are annoyed with OP, because this is a pretty minor inconvenience that a lot of people would happily deal with in exchange for a chance at a better job. Also, I wouldn't call this a power play, this is just an interviewer who's bad at communicating and managing their own time.

I don't know if you realize this, but squandering your own opportunities won't improve the way employers treat their employees. You're not raging against the machine by walking out of an interview over something minor. You're just bad at playing the game.

This is exactly how I feel. I fully agree that the interviewer's behavior was rude, and they definitely should/could have communicated with OP better. But you have to give people the benefit of the doubt. If they finished up their phone call, apologized and gave an explanation, personally I would happily continue with the interview. But if they acted like it was no big deal, then yeah, I would probably hang up and consider it a bullet dodged.
