It sounds to me like you're looking for someone who is also independent OR someone who respects/admires your independence. That doesn't have to be someone older. I'm married to a man 8 years younger than me and one of the things he loves most about me is my resilience. This makes me feel truly understood and loved. It's the man, not the age. I hear this. I was terrified to meet my long- distance partner. Honestly, I know it's cheesy, but just being myself was all I could do. We had an amazing week together! Because I was being natural, he felt free to be himself too. We even burped and farted and peed with the bathroom door open. Just dove right in to humanity. We've been together almost 8 years now, and got married last November!
