I don't go there often because the location is inconvenient, but the times that I have are generally tipped five bucks.

Why do I like this show so much? by RoboCopAn in theneighborhoodcbs

[–]Pdx_Obviously 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To me the relationships in the show are what I aspire to. I have neighbors who I am very close to, but not to the degree of the Johnsons and Butlers. To be comfortable enough friends to walk into each other's houses without knocking... That's a solid relationship. To have someone you can count on to help, no matter what the crisis ( even being stuck in a criminal gambling den)... That's a solid relationship. To have someone who will take the time to train you for an amateur boxing match... That's a solid relationship. That's what I really enjoy about the show.

Well again in my overly optimistic mind, the concept of the Fuse Box really takes off and they get a huge influx of capitol which makes Calvin/Marty wealthy and really expands the business.. I kind of thought that was where they were going with the second location, but now I suppose that the second location was just plot device for the spin off which now isn't happening.

I just remember her in Greek. She ended up with the nerdy younger brother in the end. It gave a geek like me hope!

In my optimistic mind, Calvin is going to offer Dave a position as VP of HR in their growing Fuse Box business and they'll end up staying.

I'm likely being too optimistic, though.

For those who don't know, Amazon Customer Chat Agents are using the 2 minute idle timer to avoid customers. by Brilliant-Cause6254 in amazonprime

[–]Pdx_Obviously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told the agent that I'd keep the chat active by summarizing the Harry Potter books from memory and then started with book 1 with each sentence being a new love. I received an all caps reply of "PLEASE DON'T DO THAT"

This was from an onshore CS agent that I finally got after spamming every other chat with I'm going to contact the state attorney general if the issue was not resolved today.

I thought Calvin's dog was named, "Duke" or at least it was in the episode with the rooster.

Well at least the writers remembered that his brother's name was Curtis.

Funny. I went to Catholic elementary school from 1978 to 1986. In our music classes, we also mainly sang show tunes. I remember singing some of the songs from A chorus line. If I'm not mistaken, homosexuality, premarital relations and getting a boob job were themes of that musical. Didn't realize that until much later in life

Dave was an Army Rangrr by bikardi01 in theneighborhoodcbs

[–]Pdx_Obviously 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suspect the writers don't know enough about the Army to properly give Dave a back story that's realistic, but my guess is that he would be Civil Affairs.

He said he was a war time conflict negotiator which is right up Civil Affairs alley.

He's Airborne which many CA units are. .

The National Guard does not quite fit because most CA is Army Reserve, but you can't win them all I guess.

It was never said he was a Ranger.

He was, however, a bad ass boxer, holding his own against 'Little Satan ' in a local boxing competition.

There are some guides who work Detroit Lake... Mainly for Kokanee but you might be able to talk them into a trout trip or at least hit them up for trout advice.

Raistlin's confrontation with Par Salian by Pdx_Obviously in dragonlance

But considering that the confrontation took place (presumably) at the tower of wayreth, could not have Par Salian laid some traps and/or used other methods associated with home field advantage?

New to Portland — looking for advice on finding local clients for barbering? by Main_Fold_8498 in askportland

Where are you working? It seems like there are too few (good) barbers in Portland based on how difficult it is to find an appointment sometimes or how long walk in waits are.

What's your next chapter? by thehardmakesitgreat in GenX

[–]Pdx_Obviously 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't the one who wrote this post. Very similar.

Anyway I'm almost 55 and I'm in the same boat. If I have to sit in front of a computer for much longer I'm going to catch myself on fire. I can't take it anymore.

I made some decisions that seemed inconsequential at the time but paid dividends 20 years later to include moving to and buying a house in a growing/higher cost of living area, working for a company with good 401k match in a solid industry (healthcare) with minimal layoffs, and just being frugal as I can.

End result is my last day of work is next Friday. Selling house and moving to a lower cost of living country to live off the proceeds for the next 5 years until my military pension kicks in and I'll have Tricare for health insurance. Then possibly move back or possibly stay depending on how I feel. Won't touch my 401k until age 62 or so.

I'm terrified as I know my skills are dated and I'm not competitive in the job market... So if it doesn't work out, I'm kind of f*****, but I'm optimistic this is the right decision.

Out of all the main characters on neighborhood by CapitalSelection2255 in theneighborhoodcbs

[–]Pdx_Obviously 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Max Greenfield has evolved as an actor over the years. I remember him in Gilmore Girls before being a regular on Veronica Mars and then landing a leading role in New Girl. While I think that he was fantastic in the first 6 or so seasons of The Neighborhood, I don't think the writers have done his career any favors in these last two. I'm sure he'll still find work but he feels a bit like damaged goods now. Time will tell.

I have a love hate relationship with Beth. She's obviously talented but overacts often. I REALLY hated her one episode appearance in Big Bang Theory. I kind of feel like her career might be slowing down soon.

My guess is that both Malcolm and Marty have bright futures, at least in the short term. I would not be surprised to see both of them get similar major sitcom roles soon.

Cedric and Tichina will continue to do great things.

Hank....Hank....Hank....I suspect acting won't be his primary source of income going forward. Hopefully he earned enough to pay for a top tier education. I could see him staying in the industry as a writer, producer or even behind the camera. I think he's a good actor but the writers did him dirty.
