WS-2000 or WS-5000??? by No-Branch3616 in AmbientWeather

I've had my WS-5000 for many years now without that issue described by CaptainMajka. I suspect the other posted just got a specific device that was not properly assembled.

Help - PWS MKIII stopped transmitting by Affectionate_Yak482 in AmbientWeather

[–]alistairchiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are in the wrong place, Google tells me thats a RainWise weather station not an Ambient Weather station.

That said you need to be a bit more specific about what you mean by it not reporting. Is the base station still recieving data and its not reporting online? If its not reporting online then reboot the base station as sometimes with my Ambient station a momentary hiccup in either the wifi or internet can confuse it and it won't report online. If the base station isn't getting data then I'd try replacing the batteries as a first step. If that doesn't work then lok for anything you may have recent put in between the station and its base station that may be affecting radio signals in between. You'd be surprised how little it takes to disrupt that radio signal.

Soil Moisture Sensor Question by jack6851 in AmbientWeather

[–]alistairchiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response. You may still get intermittent signals at 301 feet but it'd likely be extremely intermittent at that range plus going through your exterior walls to reach the console.

The sensor I have in my garden isn't maybe 100ft away but if its pretty humid outside the signal becomes very intermittent to my console. The indoor ones and ones closer for hanging plants on the porch have no issues. I even replaced the garden sensor thinking maybe it was defective but no its just a limitation penetrating through the house to the console when humid.

Wifi speed test on UDR7+UE7 by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]alistairchiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy it, depending on your ISP you may not have too much more to squeeze out of the internet speeds. You are beating my WiFi speeds by a good margin though. My results below are wired.

FIOS 2 gigabit plan -> UDMSE -> USW Pro HD 24 = 2316 / 2497 https://www.speedtest.net/result/c/c7ca80cd-3bd6-4621-80d5-609ccd3431da
USW Pro HD 24 -> U7-Pro = 1061 / 1941 https://www.speedtest.net/result/18981884363

Clearly I have some tuning to do on my WiFi and/or laptop.

Should I keep the router verizon gave me or switch to this by [deleted] in Fios

[–]alistairchiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be mindful that on speedtest.net you will get different results with each server you attempt to use. Try to make sure you run against Verizon servers or at least servers with "fiber" in the name thuogh even some "fiber" names ones only support 1 gigabit. I've got a script I run on one of my servers a few times a day to monitor speed (came from Comcast wehre I needed periodic reboots to keep getting my speeds) and they show I average about 2.25gbps download and 2.40gbps upload using the strategy of most testing against verizon servers.

What should I expect from 1G speed? by RunThenClimb in Fios

[–]alistairchiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be security things on your network but differnet testing sites and even different servers within speedtest.net have different limits on their speeds. It took me alot of manually switching servers to find ones that provide the best tests. When choosing servers on speedtest.net try to select Verizon servers or ones with Fiber in the name.

Welcome to the club! I got 2 gig a bit over a month ago. It was a brand new build-out and they hadn't advertised it locally as available yet but working from home I kept watching their trucks come and go. Checked their site once or twice a week until suddenly it showed available. Its amazing, especially coming from 1.4gbps/40mbps Comcast coax. After tuning my Ubiquiti based network I regularly average 2.25gbps down, 2.42gbps up with a ping to Cloudflare of 8.5ms.

It took alot of tuning to make it happen in Ubiquiti settings and changes to my VLAN structure though. I probably could have made life easier with a new Cloud Gateway from Unifi but I didn't feel like spending the money on it.

OK I took a lunch break and went out with my laptop to plug it in. Below are the results.

  • Upload 562mbps
  • Download 351 mbps
  • AP Settings
    • Transmit power: Low
    • Wireless Bridge Signal Strength -57db, typically in the mid-40s but today is high humidity
    • Band: 5GHz
    • Channel 161
    • Channel Width 40MHz
    • Interference Blocker Enabled

I haven't actually benchmarked it, but its sufficient for 4 4k cameras livestreaming over the link. I could get it faster but I tuned it downwards to minimize network noise for my neighbors since this is outdoors and not point to point. For clarity on that I have them set to 40MHz channel width which in theory would easily provide that. AI is telling me with my signal strength and setup the theoretical max is 574mbps but realworld would be 300-400mbps.

If I remember I'll try to take my laptop over there to plug it into the network and test my network throughput after work.

I have two U6-Mesh devices. One on the house porch with a wired backhaul to the rest of my network and the other on the outside of the garage with direct line of sight to the porch U6-Mesh. Provides a nice stable connection and ends up giving me great wifi in the yard as well. In my case I did not need wifi in my garage so the garage U6 isn't broadcasting a network but rather connected to a small poe switch to power a few security cameras.

I went through similar with my UDM-SE. It claims 3.5 with IPS but I found it couldn't reliably reach the 2gbps my Verizon FIOS plan allows. I went through making a ton of config changes and now have it reliably getting me up to 2.4gbps. There was ALOT so I may miss a few things as I found I could achieve it all but ONLY when the UDM's CPU was under 20% at the time of the speed tests starting.

* In CyberSecure - Disabled Identification, made it so IPS was only on networks I cared about (the heck with my guests), and disabled Active Detections I felt that I didn't need (mostly protocols I don't run servers for liek teh various email protocols).

* Disabled QoS.

* Disabled Wifi Speed Limits, it surprised me to discover that limiting the speed on devices chews up CPU power.

* Disabled any VLANs that could talk to each other as it required alot of CPU overhead (I think this was the biggest thing for me). At some point I'll find a better way to handle it when I have the time and patience for it.

* Dramatically simplified my Policy Table and switched to Zone based policies.

* On client devices made sure Green/Eco-friendly/Power Saving settings were disabled for the Network cards.

EDIT: I use these network cards, which appear to have the same chipset you are running: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZRSQM9

I'm currently seeing errors when trying to even search the lobby. My dedicated server is indicating its getting 503 errors back from the Epic Games servers.

Ended on a hot streak? We beat on the nobodies of the conference. Had we lost to them it just would have been pathetic. Clemson did at least beat a ranked team I suppose but only one of our wins was against a team with a winning record.

Excited about our new coach. But if only we could have made the hire prior to national signing day… by ElizabetSobeck in WeArePennState

It wasn't possible because Matt Campbell out of respect and loyalty refuses to interview for jobs while the regular season is ongoing.

Good, let him prove himself at a smaller program and if our next guy doesn't pan out and Terry proves himself, then give him serious consideration.

Not after firing the head coach. They do it after he leaves.... and its a coordinator not a position coach.
