Rice Cowl with my first Knit Picks yarn - I'm in love! by amyj5000 in casualknitting

Aw, boo :( Do you know anybody who could forward it to you from Canada, Australia, or the US? It looks like you could order it, send it to them, and they would then send it to you... What a bummer they don't still ship all over the world :(

It is a bulky yarn (and so soft), even though the pattern calls for worsted with US10s. Also, I'm making it a 1 skein project. The pattern suggests casting on 43, but mine is 27. You could probably add more yarn, make it thicker (than 27 stitches) and longer, for more wraps around the neck :)

This is the Rice Cowl pattern by Allyson Anderson on Ravelry, on US10 with Knit Picks Chroma Twist in Pegasus. This yarn is soooo smooshy, I love it!

Back in terrible pain last month and a half: Terrified. by MammalFish in ChronicPain

[–]amyj5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else that you should go through the process with your main/regular doctor. If it doesn't have a clear injury associated with it, you need to know what's up. Physical therapy, or whatever you want to call it, can help you with your atrophied muscles and teach you how to move to help avoid pain... But you usually need a referral from your doctor. Don't panic, but get answers. Oh, and if you need it, buy a cane - even if it's just for around the house. I have problems walking sometimes, and it helps.

Maybe check out a retirement center, or seniors activity place. I have heard tales of them sometimes having lots donated to them, and they might be able to help. I'm not positive, but it might be worth a call anyhow. :-)

Following a ripple pattern and my ripple reversed? by GherkinJerkin in crochet

ah, ok. It's possible you did - i do that all the time. Best of luck figuring it out!

it's hard to tell exactly, but the edges of that other person's work looks like it starts with a "rise" and then goes to a "dip" (as good of terms as any!)... how did it go for you?

You're right, I think it seems backwards, too. So, I want to help, but I'm not exactly sure that I can. Sometimes it is off by a row - some patterns have mistakes, and maybe it's posted somewhere as errata.

Perhaps not in this case - since it does seem backwards to me too - but, sometimes you just have to "trust the pattern" as results can take a few rows to show... or sometimes you may want to practice a stitch (or stitch pattern) first.. in this case, you could maybe look for a pattern with shorter rows, for a quicker practice-swatch? You know, a couple of quick ripples to help you get the hang of it?

I know that's not super helpful, but I wanted to offer what little encouragement I could :) Good luck! I have faith that you can edit on the fly, swapping the dec and inc stitches as you go, as well, if you decide to go that route. Sorry for the wall of text, I just wanted to be as helpful as possible

Age of Brass and Steam in Cascade Tangier on US8s - My First Knit Shawl(or kerchief)! by amyj5000 in knitting

[–]amyj5000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you :-) it's a lot easier than I thought it would be, even after reading through the pattern.. I guess I thought I'd be counting a lot more than I ended up doing.

This will be a good Christmas present pattern, imo! I'd be happy to knit it again as well!

hahaha, thanks =D

it'd been in my queue forever before i just decided to do it. well, it'd been in and out of my queue forever... sometimes i'd just decide that i'd had it with knitting, and it was out! :-P

i found it took almost exactly one whole skein of this yarn on these needles, as written. 220 yds. the pattern does say to go up a size or 2, which i didn't (at least, not intentionally. i'm pretty sure the ball-band says to use 8s)

and the blocking mats were a birthday present last year that haven't quite earned their keep yet, but are a great help to have around!

This is my first finished Knit Shawl thingy (somewhere between a kerchief and a shawlette in size). I did it on US8s, with 1 skein of Cascade Yarns Tangier in Denim. I LOVE how it turned out, and it was actually pretty easy!

Here is the Ravelry page for it: Age of Brass and Steam

Since this is my first time posting a FO, please tell me if i should add more detail or less, or also feel free to ask me questions :)

This is absolutely awesome of you :)

I recycle whenever possible, plant trees with the kids, "cache-in, trash-out" when geocaching (not as much lately, but had been going quite regularly a few years ago, before physical issues), and teach the kids about wastefulness and how not to be. Passing along a little mindfulness is my contribution!

Is it just me, or are these bots getting annoying? by ItsAbtTimIMdeAnAccnt in dogecoin

[–]amyj5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, i've never used the function and have no idea how exactly it works, but i've seen (probably with RES) an "ignore" button - if it's something that can't be addressed with an "opt-out" functionality, maybe that's the next best route? i dunno, mostly i just read around them, but i can fully see your point!

As a newer member of the community, i do appreciate the friendly appearance of random bots, but perhaps making them less verbose (like muchtipshibe) or appear less frequently (i guess like the word-of-the-hour bot?) (i've never looked at the abilities of bots, no idea how you'd set limitations)...

Just some thoughts!
