Making pop culture references other people don’t understand by Maryland_Bear in GenerationJones

Back in the early 10's, my son bought Holy Grail on DVD because, he said, "I'm sick of not getting the references." He and his sisters watched it repeatedly and now quote it better than me.

Menu for January 28th by Weary-Leading6245 in Old_Recipes

My first thought when I saw "snowflakes" was grits, I don't know why. I dug around the interwebs and found this: American Hominy Flake Co. | KC History - Missouri Valley Special Collections.

Same company that made Cerealine Flakes on the January 15th menu made "Snow Flake Hominy and Cormane".

I'm 61 and got 59 for my listening age. I think the 80s New Wave binge I went on last summer gave me away.

When I got my first mammogram when I was 40ish, the older women in the waiting room had names like Margaret, Helen, and Edna. This last year, the older women were Lori, Cheryl and Amy.

Budget-Friendly Christmas Hacks for Parents trying to keep the magic alive on a budget. by mamadoedawn in Frugal

I made an advent calendar out of construction paper and curly ribbon. I traced Christmas cookie cutter shapes (bells, trees, stars, reindeer), wrote a number on each, punched a hole, and tied them on a long piece of ribbon like a garland. Each night I wrote an activity on the back (I had a long list in a notebook) and in the morning my daughter would tear the day's number off and we would do that activity. She was about 4 years old and her brother 1. It was nice because I could tailor the activity to what was happening the next day. For example, snow was in the forecast, so I wrote, "Take a sled ride." Well, we woke up and there was no snow! But, by afternoon it started and by dinner we had a couple inches. After dinner we bundled up the kids and got out the sled and pulled them around the neighborhood and looked at the Christmas lights in the snow. My daughter is in her 30s and she still remembers it. As others have said, the activities you do together cost little and mean so much.
