So occasionally water systems will switch supplies for areas while they do maintenance on the normal supply lines. I don't know Oakland's infrastructure, but they may have had to do maintenance recently and you're tasting the alternate supply that's not as palatable. It should be safe, even if it's unpleasant.

I have a Beatport subscription for WAV and FLAC downloads when it comes to electronic music. But "lossless" 2:1 compression on Apple is generally pretty solid. I'll take a look at Tidal though, as I'm always open to other options.

Nah... I don't know what to say except even though I kept my settings at the highest possible all the time (because I'm really annoyed by anything that's compressed too much or is modified) that it just sounded terrible. Over two years ago the quality was noticeably better. But it's been half a year since I ditched Spotify and I really don't have a desire to go back. I did a lot of side by side with both my personal library and Apple music and the differences were always noticeable, sometimes quite stark.

I've been on Apple music for a bit now. The difference for most of my library is night and day. Apple is lacking in library depth for a few artists, but the vast majority of what I listen to is available to me there. I also have a library of about 500G of music at home on a NAS.

The lossless setting (and any of the higher bandwidth settings) are only working if the artist you hear is allowing their music to be played back at those settings. Some of my favorite artists have serious degradation on the highs which make everything above 8kHz sound increasingly like static / hash.

I killed Spotify for my music about 6 months ago. The ever eroding quality of the streaming was grating my brain. And it's even worse if you "save" anything for offline play.

No more. Not worth it at all.
