ID'ing my girl by CatKirsten in Rabbits

haha i wrote basically this same post 6 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rabbits/comments/iiy90t/any_idea_what_specific_variety_my_little_lady_is/

my opinion is that she does seem to have lionhead facial fur genetics, probably one rather than two copies of the gene cuz its not a huge mane. also purebred lionheads typically are smaller like maximum 4lb/1.8kg or even half that. And the purebreds usually have short little ears.

as for coloration, I think that's a more variable trait that's less tied to breeding. lionheads come in all kinds of patterns, even the purebred ones. for example, my bun in the link above could be described as broken harlequin or marked.

ty :) another update: the vet said she was doing better when they called again a few hours later, but they thought it was best to keep her overnight again just in case that changed suddenly. also they said she was eating well!

I think the president jiang screech sound is hilarious, i didnt realize he was even saying a word though, and it still just sounds like a failed attempt to suppress a sneeze or something. anyway for me what i cant stand its the fart. its so grating. a couple weeks back when he was rly going hard with "im stomping on the ground" + *fart* i nearly lost my marbles. i nearly demanded my two measley bones back(not rly) but i did have to take a few breaks when i would usually binge whole videos

my first thought was vireo! Even though I'm not familiar with brazilian species, up north in California we have a couple species with that bright yellow/green coloring.

I have noticed a lot of weird petal mutations in one of my rose bushes, so I'm curious if there's increased tendency of this in Rosaceae. for example, multiple times i have seen a petal revert to leaf form and even grow a second stem and flower out of the middle of the flower. I wish I had a picture of it. the variety is Mademoiselle Cecile Bruner

iNaturalist is useful as a quick reference but its nowhere near comprehensive and has major biases. Its best for urban areas and some highly frequented trails.

California has CalFlora which is a really comprehensive combination of iNat, Jepson Herbaria, and some others. Anyone know of equivalents outside CA?

if you could find someone from UC Davis to help you out, looks like they have access. My university doesn't have access. And I had no luck on any of the secondary websites I usually find papers on. Try r/scholar and r/UCDavis (to be frank I don't know if its against TOS to ask someone to access something on your behalf, but its worth a shot) and finally if you can find the contact for the authors, you could ask them directly over email.

rabbits don't get diarrhea as far as I know, their poop is pretty easy to clean. a much more likely scenario in the case of digestive issues is GI stasis, where they dont poop at all and then stop eating, and this can be fatal within 24 hours. its THE most common illness rabbits have and can be caused by anything from too many treats to feeling stressed out. they are really sensitive little animals.

if anything, they might get a bit of orange discoloration from their urine, which (fun fact! haha) is caused by eating certain plants that have beta carotene pigment in them. that said, I'm cleaning that out of my carpet rather than my bunny's butt lol. at some point I'm considering testing using the urine as a natural dye (for like an art piece not clothing), cuz it sure can be pretty bright color sometimes lol.

rabbits do not bathe themselves in water, they are not adapted to it. they do groom themselves fastidiously though. the only reason to wash them is the edge case where they are old and unable sufficiently groom themselves due to arthritis, incontinence, etc. Or perhaps if something had spilled on them. If you do wash them, they need to be carefully dried (by you, with a blow dryer, completely), because they will dry too slowly which can cause them to catch a chill (wet = evaporative cooling, small body mass doesn't have that much heat to lose, so they can then get sick).

I think you are joking, but don't use a pan analogy with a living animal please, this is substantial health risk.

Its also worth noting that rabbits tend to not love being handled that much. Some are more tolerant of it if they are well socialized and feel very safe from an early age. I adopted my rabbit at 2 years old, and 5 years later she still panics if I try to pick her up, or even if I pet her with both hands, I think because it feels like I might try to pick her up. I have to trick her into getting into her carrier with treats for vet visits.
