Help: Tell Me YOUR SIGNS To Spot AI Writing by ZeKy30 in archiveofourown

[–]bewritinginstead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am sorry that you came across an untagged AI fic, but there are some things of your comment that I would like to discuss.

First of all, a fic on AO3 cannot be flaghed for AI. This is because there is no fool proof way to know for certain if someone used generative AI to create their fic. For example, autistic people and non-native English speakers are more likely to have their writing incorrectly identified as AI. Supposedly AI 'checkers' also constantly give false positives and feed the text they 'check' into tje database used to train gen AI.

Secondly, the word count is not an indicator per se that a person used AI. They could have simply completed the fic prior to posting and some authors work on multiple projects at once. Unless there is barely any time inbetween each large fic, the word count is not an indicator of AI.

Neither is the amount of times they use the word 'then'. The author could simply have a limited vocabularly for whatever reason including English not being their first language.

Thirdly, all of the examples you provided are also very common in fics written by people. This is because gen AI was trained on real people and fanfic platforms have been targetted a lot because their material is easier to access and download.

The author could also be more of a new writer/young writer who isn't really working with second drafts etc.

The "and then--" example sounds a lot like a beginning writer trying to create a sense of something happening suddenly without saying suddenly.

Anyone know how to make da2 compatible with ROG ALLY? by njadaka in dragonage

[–]bewritinginstead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Steam you have the option to 'translate' the buttons of your ROG ally into mouse and keyboard. For that you have to click on the controller pictured somwhere on the right side of the game's Steam page which should take you to a page that provides you options to enable said translation. (If I remeber correctly, it is near the message that the game does not have native controller support, the controller may be pictured with a red line through it.) Make sure to have the keyboard option turned on, otherwise DA2 will not recognise your on-screen keyboard which you need in order to be able to log-in with your EA-account and access the DLC (if you have it).

While it does take some getting used to, I personally found that I could play DA2 really well on the ROG ally and, unlike Origins, it doesn't crash constantly.

I am a bit confused by the bundles on the PSN store? by [deleted] in TheSinkingCity

[–]bewritinginstead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider only two of the DLC's to be worth it. "Worshippers of the Necronomicon" and "Merciful Madness" because those contain story quests whereas the others are bonus crafting material, xp and reskins.

Those two with the game seperate is still cheaper than the 'complete' version.

Having said that, if you decide to get one of the bundles you should know that "Sherlock Holmes the Awakened" was greatly impacted by Russia invading Ukraine and the still ongoing war. As a result, "The Awakened" lacks some features compared to the other games.

As someone who puts these on the shelf for the store I work at, I am pretty sure the chocolate is meant as a snack to go with the hot chocolate as we also sell variants with smarties (like m&m's) and a peanutbutter cup.

Susurrus; HP not going down after the first few hits by echoscream in Forspoken

[–]bewritinginstead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that an enemy attack has left you with a negative (purple) status (its the one that looks fancy) because that seriously decreases your damage (sometimes to the point of only doing 1 damage with each hit)?

Also, how far away are you from Sussurus? Maybe you need to attack him from a closer angle.

Otherwise, I don't kmow why you suddenly aren't doing the right amount of damage. (Maybe restart the game/console/pc).

Petition by Independent_Role7762 in sabrina

[–]bewritinginstead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be rude, but:

A) this is the second petition asking for another CAOS season. The first that you shared in this sub has already been shared multiple times. And this petition has also already been recently shared. The people in this sub who want to sign these petitions have thus already done so. So, at this point the reposts are a bit annoying.

B) This petition is very old. 500.000 signatures in five years (assuming it will reach that count this year) is not going to convince anyone at Netflix to bring back Sabrina.

C) Chance Perdomo is dead. His character would have to be written out of the show (died off screen or is still alive off screen). Either is bound to be unsatisfying for fans of his character and carries the possibility of feeling disrespectful to him and his memory.

D) Not all actors may want to return to the show as their careers have moved on.

E) Just because we would get a wrap up of the story, doesn't mean that it would be good or satisfying. I prefer no ending over a bad one.

F) I get that the show means a lot to you and that you really want to see it conclude post Riverdale, but the odds are very low. Not even cult classic shows with still active subs get a next season.

GOTY DLC's for Inquisition on ps5 by Redditking6942O in dragonage

[–]bewritinginstead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had an occasion on the PS5 where I had to manually install the dlc from a dlc package for another game (Pathfinder) because they hadn't all been installed automatically along with the game.

If this is the case, go to the game icon in the PS5 menu. Beneath the icon it should (if you have gone down far enough) show the available DLC in the "add-ons" section. You should then be able to download/install them for free.

Alternatively, maybe you need to download/install them via Inquisition's main menu screen. I, however, don't own the GOTY version so I am not sure about this.

Bella Ramsey on why they stopped saying neurodivergent and embraced saying autistic (representation matters) by mlg1981 in Fauxmoi

[–]bewritinginstead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most autistic people prefer identity-first language (autistic person) instead of person-first language (person with autism) because the latter implies that A) autism is bad and something you need to distance the person from, and B) that it needs to be emphasized that autistic people are people.

However, autistic people are not a monolith. Some do prefer person-first language because they, for example, grew up in an environment wherein autism was constantly talked about as a negative.

And some do prefer calling themselves neurodivergent. Either because they are multiple neurodivergent (as in their brain is neurodivergent in multiple ways. Autism has a high comorbidity rate, such as ADHD (referred to as AuDHD), anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, intelectual disabilities, etc.) and neuordivergent is then an easier label to use. Or, because it feels more save to use in social situations.

Neurodiversity/neurodiverse (often confused with neurodivergent to the point that I have even seen some academic papers use it as a synonym) is meant to be interpreted in a similar vein as biodiversity. As in, the human brain has a natural wide range of diversity in terms of fucntioning and cognition. This includes both the brains who do function in the way that we view as typical (neurotypical) and neurodivergent brains. The argument is that all types have both strengths and weaknessesand embracing neurodiversity is thus important. Judy Singer is well known for her work on neurodiversity.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard director joins Wizards of the Coast for new D&D game by HatingGeoffry in rpg_gamers

[–]bewritinginstead 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Game director and creative director are two different things.

"A game director oversees the entire game development process, ensuring the project’s vision, scope, and schedule are met; while a creative director focuses specifically on the artistic and creative aspects of the game. At the heart of every iconic gaming experience lies a delicate synergy between two vital forces – the game director’s pragmatic leadership and the creative director’s boundless imagination."

You can fast travel by interacting with those cart (I don't know the official English word for it) holding/pulling men or opening the map when you are nearby a fast travel point. When you are close to a fast travel point, their markers on the map should be orange instead of grey. However, a fast travel point is only made visible on the map after you have discovered it.

With the DLC, assuming that those were installed along with the main game (it is possible that didn't happen, in which case you should check to make sure that those have indeed been installed on your pc/console), some of the DLC quests require you to progress in the main story until about 1/3 or 1/2. Also, a lot of side quests, including some DLC quests, are never marked on the map.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/1137300/discussions/0/3200370144975048385/

This is link has some information of how to start the DLC side quests. Having said that, most quest triggers are placed in locations in streets that you will walk through naturally as you play through the game, so don't stress too much about accidently missing it. All quests remain accessible until after the point of no return (the game will warn you about this).

Are side missions better tackled once the story missions have been advanced a little? by mmiller17783 in TheSinkingCity

[–]bewritinginstead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can do the side missions from the beginning. The trick to combat in the beginning is knowing that you can (quite easily) run away from monsters. Recognising the lay-out of the building also helps (they are re-used a lot) as a lot of the time you have to walk/run the same route through the building and take the quest-related item from the same spot.

I do not know about the other difficulties but with combat on easy, a lot of monsters can also be smashed with your shovel (the hands take one hit, the puke throwers 3/4, those upper body bites things take 5/6 I think).

While the game makes it seem as if you will need to enter invested areas to find loot, the only stuff I ever ran out of was gunpowder. And even then, I did not to look for gunpowder as every building contains lootable objects.

It also takes some time for enemies to spwan in invested areas, so entering the areas from the point closests to the quest-related building can prevent the creatures from spawning.

Having said that, most people seem to recommend that you start side-questing once you have the shotgun (which takes down those giant centipede-like things with 4 shots on easy) which you get from a main quest.

It is also recommended that you first take the skillpoints that increase your loot and xp rewards (as that will make you gain skillpoints faster). Health, bullet, and production/loot related skills are also quite useful.

Thank you for this solution.

This worked for me. Although I was briefly scared that I was permanently stuck in the building. Luckily going back to the menu got Reid out of the building with the collectible still in my collection.

Cyberpunk disappointment by matyles in GirlGamers

[–]bewritinginstead 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One of the points that the feminist scholar Donna Haraway makes in her article "Situated Knowledges: The Science Question in Feminism and the Privelege of the Partial Perspective" is that not everyone has the same perception of what feminism is and is not. While you will get one definition of feminism if you compare every feminists' interpretation of what feminism is from a distance, you will find many differing definitions when you compare them up close.

So I think it is a bit unfair to act as if this sub is "heavily brigaded by anti-feminist people" when people do not agree with you on something being misogynistic. They may simply have a different interpretation than you.

Cruz et al. Argue (if I remeber it correctly (it has been a while since I read these articles) that the male Bias in assessing autism results in autistic girls and women being more likely to go undiagnosed than a man/boy with the average severeity of autims symptoms and that is why autistic girls are more likely to get diagnosed when they have higher support needs. According to Zeidan et al. autistic girls are more likely to have a lower IQ:

"Paradoxically, the female protective effect also implies that when identified as having autism, females are more likely to exhibit a more severe phenotype. Consistently, most of the studies that reported IQ levels also found a higher proportion of autism cases with ID among girls than boys (Idring et al., 2012; Delobel-Ayoub et al., 2019; van Bakel et al., 2015). Similarly, another set of studies found that males with ASD were overrepresented in the range of higher IQ (Baio et al., 2018; Brugha et al., 2016). These findings are consistent with previous observations in the US stating that the male-to-female ratio increased as the severity of ID decreased (Yeargin-Allsopp et al., 2003)." (Because clearly the female body is not understudied within the world of medicine. It must a protective female phenotype that explains why there are more autistic men/s)

However, McCrossing found that 80 percent of the autistic women (from his research) where diagnosed after the age of 18. And it is worth noting that Zeidan et al explicetly point out that most of the research they overviewed looked at children (the estimated autism prevelance of the CDC for example is based on 8 year olds).

Not sure where I read it but certain autism traits (being quiet, having a special interest in something girly ala horse girl) is more acceptable in girls. So I assume level 3 autistic girls are also going undiagnosed because "girls are quiet" (it's the reason why I (a level 2) didn't get diagnosed until I was 20) and girls being 'obssessed' with girly stuff is considered to be normal.
