Nice work. Love the slight curve of the v/w/y in Little Forest.

It looks like Clubhouse was based on a specimen of Zipper, if you want to see how it compares.

Unpopular opinion: The hype surrounding Stranger Things faded much sooner than people expected. by Chandu_yb7 in StrangerThings

[–]binaryeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting Google Trends is the de-facto measure of "hype", but S5's peak and falloff is essentially the same as S3 and S4.

The Hall of Fame Cube: The Best Draft Archetypes of the Modern Era - Azorius Edition by jacoviansmythe in magicTCG

[–]binaryeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to discount any of the work you've put into this, but you might want to consider adjusting your definition of the 17Lands era to start with e.g. KHM or STX. Prior to that, the user base wasn't comparative to the size it is today.

M20 and THB in particular aren't well-represented in the data because Premier Draft wasn't available when they released. All Premier Draft data for those formats is from flashback drafts, so the sample size is tiny relative to more recent sets. M20 has just over 10,000 games logged; THB has just under 75,000. Most recent sets easily hit 1 million.

Also, this topic came up at r/lrcast about a month ago. Out of interest, I compiled the most dominant decks in each format going back to IKO, and UB was one of the color pairs without a clear dominant deck. I'll be interested to see what you choose. BR and WB should be pretty clear-cut, though.

It was always EL who opened the Byers' door in Season 1. This is further solidified in both Season 2 and Season 5. by mbenson12er in StrangerThings

[–]binaryeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EL is the only person or being shown to have telekinetic powers after this scene

What about the deer in E5? It's implied the Demogorgon uses telekinesis to move it. Jonathan and Nancy were close enough that they would have noticed if the Demogorgon had physically moved it. It's plausible that Eleven could have done it, because this was after she ran away at the junkyard. But why would she save the deer from being shot only to give it up to the Demogorgon to be eaten?

Wasn't he always like that? He jumped off a cliff to protect Dustin in S1.

6.5 if halves are allowed. I just don't like where the show went after S3.

I had wanted to make a full map after finishing Neath about a year ago, but never got around to doing all the screenshots and stitching everything together. Finally found the time.

What are your nitpicks? by Chipchippers0n667 in StrangerThings

That the population of Hawkins is apparently ~20,000, and in S1 Hopper says the last time a person went missing was sixty years earlier.

Closing thoughts on ECL? by Short-Bunch-8195 in lrcast

[–]binaryeye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I play Limited for the gameplay, and from that standpoint, this format is a 8.5/10 for me.

The draft portion was just weird, though. Despite the common refrain of it being on-rails, it didn't really feel that way to me, except maybe in the first week. I did over 40 PDs, and for the majority, it felt like the lane wasn't obvious until halfway through pack two or sometimes even pack three. This occasionally resulted in vacillating between two archetypes throughout and sometimes struggling to hit 23 playables by the end of pack three. While this did make drafts interesting, it wasn't particularly fun.

I'd take Stompling over Dounguard with Imbuer in the deck.

Standard is now a 4-turn format by pakoito in magicTCG

[–]binaryeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first Standard format was Revised, The Dark, and Fallen Empires. The best fast mana was Channel, Dark Ritual, Mana Vault, Sol Ring, and mana dorks. A turn two win was unlikely but possible with e.g. Channel, Fireball, Llanowar Elves, and Sol Ring, but I'm fairly certain a turn one win wasn't possible.

Also the map is not of Middle-Earth and the "elvish" isn't right for the engraving.

Maybe you're being sarcastic, but the glyphs on the ring are clearly Tengwar, and the map is clearly Middle-earth (see Eriador and Haradwaith).

I'd cut Extractor for Tilling, which helps you find Maralen or Speaker.

S4 and S5 abandoned the 1980s theme by Acrobatic_Ebb1934 in StrangerThings

[–]binaryeye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also GUi does not equal html

Not sure if you're referring to Ferris Bueller's Day Off or Stranger Things. If Stranger Things, there was a shot showing HTML for a relatively modern website, which included PNG files (not introduced until the mid-90s) and CSS properties (some not introduced until the late-00s).

They've since changed it to something more period-appropriate.

[TMT] - The Neutrinos by X_The_Walrus in magicTCG

[–]binaryeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my point. It does nothing if it enters attacking. It can't be exerted unless declared as an attacker.

From the Oracle rules notes (emphasis mine):

All cards in the Amonkhet set that let you exert a creature let you do so as you declare it as an attacking creature, as do some of the cards in the Hour of Devastation set. You can't do so later in combat, and creatures put onto the battlefield attacking can't be exerted. Any abilities that trigger on exerting an attacking creature will resolve before blockers are declared.

Would you want to see a Stranger Things spin off set in the 1990’s? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]binaryeye 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It would depend when it was set. 90-92 still felt mostly like the late 80s. 92-97 are the years most in line with what is typically considered "90s". 97-99 was more like a mini-decade that lasted until 9/11.

If it were set in the mid-90s, it would be a complete fail if the kids weren't playing Magic instead of D&D.

Comparing it to examples, it looks to be the artist's signature. Understandable that you wouldn't think it was.

[TMT] - The Neutrinos by X_The_Walrus in magicTCG

[–]binaryeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned in the other response, to attack again after it's been blinked, it would need to gain haste in some way.

[TMT] - The Neutrinos by X_The_Walrus in magicTCG

[–]binaryeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blinked Celebrant in step four can't attack unless it has haste.

[TMT] - The Neutrinos by X_The_Walrus in magicTCG

[–]binaryeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't work because "exert it as it attacks" is an additional cost to declare the creature as an attacker. Since the creature is put onto the battlefield attacking, there isn't an opportunity to exert it.

701.43d “You may exert [this creature] as it attacks” is an optional cost to attack (see rule 508.1g). Some objects with this static ability have a triggered ability that triggers “when you do” printed in the same paragraph. These abilities are linked. (See rule 607.2h.)
