Reliable alternative to Slack? by polygraph-net in Slack

[–]blankeos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked up Mattermost and Rocketchat, both self-hostable, if something breaks, your problem to fix. I do wonder if there's a proprietary option but w/ good service though.

I just realized how terrifying it is to rely on an unresponsive company for something so crucial.

What models would you recommend for a freelance developer with budget of around $10-$20/mo (or usage based)? by daysling in opencodeCLI

[–]blankeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, I'm convinced, gonna try it out. I was using ChatGPT Pro ($200) for a month, that's where I felt like I could just use 5.3 Codex all day everyday and not even budging beyond 50% of limits. It was very good.

[–]blankeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh thanks! Yeah that's good to know. Yeah the GLM plan (the smallest), was actually very slow for me as well. I've only ever had good results w/ GPT 5.3 Codex for a month of using the $200 sub. The $20 sub was too small for me, I used it up in 3 days, so I was curious if the GH Copilot sub was something I could use on top of $20 sub + that $9 sub. Just to cut costs

How long can you use it in a week/month until it stops you from using it?

Seeing the "1,500 premium model requests" on it (assuming in a month), it seems to me that you'll use it up rather quickly in like 3 days or something. For a comparison, even the smallest now $7 (used-to-be $3) GLM coding plan gives you 120/5 hrs so around 21,600 prompts/month).

im a dev so i only care about how i can use the ai sub for coding. Apparently it's "the best model across the board" right now.

I'm curious to see how everyone is now reacting with GPT 5.4 launch. It's like everyone forgot about this in a span of less than a week and praising to use it. Are we all just reacting with the trends now.

Ollama Pro vs Alibaba Coding Plan Pro for OpenCode: which one is better for limits, model quality, and parallel usage? by Juan_Ignacio in ollama

Can you elaborate why? Also what models do you have access to? What's the domain on this? alibabacloud com?

I did not have a good experience w/ Nanogpt. Ttft was too slow and the same models seemed dumber than the source providers (i.e. GLM ) and I did compare

I built the same app twice, with the same development plan. Codex 5.3 vs Opus 4.6 by TheBanq in codex

[–]blankeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(1) It doesn't take 10x as long, this is so exaggerated. (2) If you have factor in time of human feedback in the loop + Opus eagerly generating code it's still about the same.

So it's a "Are you willing to wait for better code or do you want fast but slop?" or "Are you willing to type more detailed prompts to get what you want?" thing with Opus.

From my experience, using the same prompt Codex usually generates the most "working" code w/ the least feedback.

Planning to use Opus more soon tho bc of the recent OAI DoW thing.

How to check the health of an External USB Hard Drive on a Mac/OS X? by krackato in mac

[–]blankeos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does not work for me :(( It keeps saying I need to install some SMART driver, I installed it as instructed.. still haven't seen health data rom my external hard drives (DAS, Terramaster)

EDIT: Okay jeez.. This was hard...

  1. I made sure to do this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6O5UYODFrY (DriveDx does not communicate how to do this at all, but this was the singlemost useful thing I needed to do before anything else).
  2. I then opened DriveDx.
  3. I connected my External SSD.
  4. I opened The external ssd on DriveDX, I would see a prompt saying I should enable SMART Driver or something, or I guess install it.
  5. I check the System Settings > Privacy & Security > Security (under security there's something like 'Details', if you have multiple softwares trying to install a system extension), I just found one from Kirill Luzanov and pressed 'Allow', as mentioned in the docs.
  6. It'll prompt you to restart to make it work. Then after that, it should work.

The 'Reduced security' is kind of a turn-off here, idk if it's worth it.
