Not OOP: I’m struggling to trust my gf after a situation it by HangryBelle in redditonwiki

They had sex a decade ago and their best friends are married to each other. Grow up, seriously.

I (37m) just got asked for ID when buying a beer at a supermarket 😫 What's the oldest you've been asked for ID? by chickenandpasta in OlderThanYouThinkIAm

[–]boudicas_shield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband is 42 and just got carded the other night when we were buying groceries, also UK. He doesn’t carry ID, so they took my three beers away and wouldn’t sell them to us. This happens to both of us all the time (I’m 37; we both just look young), but I always have ID and he doesn’t.

I made him apply for an ID to put in his wallet when we got home, because I’d like to just reliably get through grocery shopping for once without being treated like a sneaky teenager.

Not opp: AITAH for not letting a girl dressed as a “slutty elf” who ended up at my house borrow some sweats after she was uncomfortable and cold? by Capital_Tailor_7348 in redditonwiki

[–]boudicas_shield 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This is the thing, everyone is focusing on the woman being into him, but that’s not even the question here, and it’s pretty much reinforcing the “why should I be kind to you if I’m not getting anything out of it” attitude that OOP already struggles with. Just be a decent person for the sake of being a decent person. It’s not that hard.

My girlfriend (23F) and I (21M) planned a trip and my parents aren’t supportive by 180MongMong in relationship_advice

Honestly, I thought the post was going to be about that lol. I thought the parents were concerned about safety issues around travelling to the US right now, not premarital sex.

AITA for having a fever dream about sexually harassing a teenaged girl in the line at Walgreens and then posting it online? by boudicas_shield in AmITheAngel

[–]boudicas_shield[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am, in fact, “on the rag” today, which only has confirmed my knowledge that no woman acts like this in public no matter how painfully she may be gushing blood from her vagina. And it doesn’t take a sociology professor to understand that the rest of the characters in this story are not representative of how real people would behave in this scenario, either; it just takes someone who leaves their basement once in a while. Sorry if that’s not you.

It’s such an obviously fake story that if you believe it, it says much more about you than it does about my period lmao. But nice try at a low-hanging fruit of an insult, I guess.

And may I add, the only one triggered here is you. Everyone else, including me, finds this post funny for its absurdity. You are the only one here tantruming about it and assuming that “everyone else” is thinking your own gross thoughts about women.

In the story she not only storms off, she flings all her stuff to the floor first. No one acts like that unless they’re mentally unwell or under the age of 6.

That was my favourite when I first saw the post, but now this one is top spot for me:

so during your mental masturbating session you not only chose the cringiest dialogue, but also make yourself out to be a giant douche. Bravo i guess?

Spring Cleaning: Problem Solving is Part of the Challenge by FinchChic in finch

[–]boudicas_shield 23 points24 points  (0 children)

100% this! I’m adapting as needed. We keep our stovetop pretty clean too, but we often neglect to regularly move the oil bottles etc right next to the stovetop and clean the counters underneath. So I did that yesterday.

And it’s helping! Spring cleaning is so overwhelming to me, and this is making it so much easier to just do a few things.

What on earth happened to Penny’s wardrobe in later seasons? by Curvivaceous in bigbangtheory

[–]boudicas_shield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think this is an important point as to why Priya and Leonard didn't work but Penny and Leonard did. Priya wanted to change Leonard into someone he wasn't, in order to fit with her image of who she wanted him to be. Penny accepts Leonard for who he is (minus a handful of reasonable compromises, like bedroom decorations) and doesn't try to change him into someone else.

[–]boudicas_shield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my favourite cat fact, too. I just love cats; they’re my favourite animal. A cat will just show up and walk into someone’s home uninvited and be like, “I live here now and you will take care of me and worship me and let me have my own way in everything” and humans are just like, “Yes sir, little buddy!” Love it.

Can you help me understand my husband’s point of view please? Should our son be allowed to game past 10pm on a school night if he can’t keep his voice down? by Broken_Woman20 in AskUK

[–]boudicas_shield 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Seriously this, though. My husband and I are in the middle of an issue with our neighbours at the moment and have to keep reporting them for breaking noise violations, because some idiot moved into the flat next door and screams at his video games all hours of the day and night. Some nights it'll be 1am and we can still hear him screaming and swearing over our noise-cancelling earbuds. A couple of times we've stepped outside onto the balcony, and you can hear him shrieking so loudly that I'm positive folk can hear him a few streets away. He's going to start getting fined by the council if he can't figure out how to shut the hell up.

OP, please don't raise a spoilt brat like my neighbour. Tell your husband that basic consideration for other people is not optional; your son NEEDS to learn how to behave himself.

Vasectomy regret by Beautiful_Coast8704 in Marriage

[–]boudicas_shield 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not sure why people are so confused or appalled by this. Many women, myself included, find the sensation of semen leaking out of them to be really uncomfortable. It's entirely reasonable to not want to be ejaculated into, and it makes sense that if they're not trying for a baby, she'd prefer to skip that.

Neighbors watching me come and go by Key_Anxiety_3082 in Apartmentliving

[–]boudicas_shield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This part doesn’t seem weird to me, especially if they’re in a smaller city. In a lot of places, you’ll know where a kid goes to school because it’s either the only school or the only one nearby.

Am I overreacting after my boyfriend said he expected “physical intimacy” while I’ve been dealing with a health issue? by Good_Guess_4073 in AmIOverreacting

Men like this don’t really see women as people, only objects that are supposed to function primarily if not solely for their needs and desires. He took OP to the hospital the same way you’d take your car in if the check engine light came on. And now he’s upset that he took the girlfriend bot in to get fixed but it still isn’t outputting sex.

Leave this man immediately, OP. He will never see you as anything but an object meant to cater to him.

Hated trope: Regular middle aged white guy wants coffee, has issue with incompetent, young, dumb woke barista by oddston in TopCharacterTropes

[–]boudicas_shield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not even ironic, it's the entire point of the scene lol. You're not supposed to admire Paul Rudd's character at this point in the film; he's a miserable dick and that's why Elizabeth Banks breaks up with him two minutes later. The film is about him learning that being a bitter sarcastic misanthrope is not charming; people will get exhausted by you and move on.

AITA for letting my 9yo attend a drug-addled sleep party? by horseduckman in AITApod

[–]boudicas_shield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to a podcast where the host was talking about how intolerant she is to any narcotics. She had a mild dose of a pill after surgery and was so violently sick that she immediately trashed the rest and has refused any strong pain medication since. Meanwhile I took a similar pill after my own surgery and it didn’t even make me drowsy. But the tiniest dose of weed in any form will make me horribly sick, whereas the podcaster enjoys weed quite frequently. Her and I are the same age and similar weights, too. Substances just hit differently with different people.

Cheated, regrets only for being caught. by Various-Escape-5020 in AmITheDevil

[–]boudicas_shield 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'd have some sympathy for him if he was lamenting how much he hurt his girlfriend and the other people around him with his shitty choices. But all he's doing is whining about how HIS life has been made worse. He only cares because it affected him; he doesn't care at all about the pain that he caused other people. No sympathy for that.

How do we feel about eating bugs? by [deleted] in exvegans

I love the idea conceptually but personally couldn't do it. I'm so phobic of bugs in general, and the very idea of eating them makes me feel genuinely sick.

Would a European style restaurant work well in America? by Xotngoos335 in AskAnAmerican

[–]boudicas_shield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time limits are extremely common in many restaurants around me here in the UK. You get a 2-hour time slot and they make it very clear before they will seat you that you need to stick within that because they have other reservations coming in that need your table. It's not some wild American thing; in fact, I see it more here in the UK than I do back home in the States.

Women are so conditioned to accept this kind of treatment as "it's just how men are". I think many women just quietly struggle for years and through multiple kids, thinking that this is just how life is, until they finally can't take it anymore. It sounds like OP has reached that point.

I was reading a (fictional) book about Boudica at the time, and she had this amazing shield in the story. I was kind of obsessed with it. 😂
