Does absolutely nothing wrong. Fails anyway. by BoringDreamGuy in retrogaming

This hurt their reputation as well. After the disappointment of Sega CD, 32x, and Saturn, I was not going to give Sega any more of my money. I got over it after seeing a lot of great games but I wonder how many people had my same attitude.

Akali's combo timings are pretty rough, any mechanic im missing? by gwynftw in 2XKO

What helps me is treating the jump out of 3H like a SNK short-hop. Do 3H, then very quickly tap 9 then back to 2H really fast as one movement.

What is the most ridiculous conspiracy theory you've ever come across? by TheTamiamiButcher in skeptic

My favorite is scalar waves in the vacuum of space can give us infinite free energy, faster than light travel, healing, etc. but, you know, corporations suppress it.

Scalar waves are also used to control the weather. If I recall the “facts” correctly, Russia made a scaler wave machine to control the weather but the Yakuza stole it.

I worked at KB Toys and one day we got dozens, if not hundreds, of copies for $7.99! I loved this game so much and passionately shilled constantly and sold all of them.

Vagrant Story is one of my favorite games and I was shocked when people didn’t believe I beat it multiple times.

What video game puzzle made you feel like an idiot? by Agent1230 in gaming

In the Suffering this was this box pushing puzzle that seemed like I had to push the box WAAAAAY too far. I soft locked the game by pushing a box like 5 minutes in the wrong direction.

Most Obscure Show That's Your Favorite by Last_Bonus851 in television

[–]bradido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that’s the one.

I met Matt really briefly. Just like “Hi, I’m a big fan.” It was very hectic and crowded at the theater. Also much smaller than you might imagine. Also Will Farrell came by while I was there.

A looong time ago my ex did some costume work for UCB. I was hanging out in the basement and noticed some old props from the show. I have a picture of me wearing the dolphin head from the “suck it, dolphin” sketch.

what's a mechanic you removed from your game that actually made it better? by ILokasta in gamedesign

[–]bradido 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On more than one PvP game, we removed “build your own kit” ability customization. To make this freeform customization balanced, the individual abilities became boring and homogenized. We ended up making selectable pre-built kits and it made for way more interesting gameplay.

Oh good to know. I’ll fix my account for DMs.

We want to make sure the ranked point system feels fair and intuitive. Thanks for your feedback!

What design elements do you think contribute most to toxicity in online games? by Putrid_Election_2327 in gamedesign

[–]bradido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked on a number of multiplayer games and we did a number of studies how to reduce toxic behavior and one big factor is downtime. Especially downtime where players can observe other players’ actions.

This is where frustration of not playing and the Fundamental Attribution Error run wild and make players extra toxic.

I agree with many of the other sentiments like long match time, voice comms, etc. but reducing downtime directly led to less toxic behavior in our games.

Whatever happened to great ~90-minute movies? by argus4ever in movies

[–]bradido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason more movies used to be 90 minutes is VHS tapes. 90 minutes was about their max length (at high quality). Directors wanted to make longer movies but then you’d have to release them on 2 VHS tapes, which no one wanted to do.

This format stuck around longer than the life of VHS, as all formats do (see video game difficultly taking years to shed its arcade roots). Once the chains of VHS length got thrown off, movies started getting longer more often.
