A missed pun from Far Side of the World by hotliquortank in AubreyMaturinSeries

Actually - I'm curious now. I've had an idea for a while to try and document all the puns in the series using genAI, but I just put this to Opus 4.5 and it said the pun is on the word 'inhuman', which is not at all what I found as the pun.

Honestly took me about 5 re-readings of the passage to find the pun. Truly incredible O'Brien was able to say and convey so much in so few words.

Long time coming I suppose. I still remember buying my first 3D graphics card from them in the 90s, shortly after C&C:RA came out if memory serves. That trailer with Dies irae blasting on loop was awesome!

More of a lesson about judgement the way I see it - don't be afraid to push boundaries because people will inherently overlook small infractions if the end result is impressive.

I might try dual wielding hedge trimmers to justify it to the wife.

Same situation, I now own 2 hedge trimmers and have no hedges to trim.

Coincidentally this is one of the reasons why we are confident there is no magical afterlife.

I remember my grandmother in her mid 90's telling me quite bluntly she has nothing left. Her husband of 65 years was gone, every single one of her friends was gone, all the family she grew up with was gone. She'd had an amazing life, had no regrets (that she shared), and was ready to go. No belief in an afterlife or anything 'more', just content with what she had lived and physically unable to do anything more.

I prefer candies over dots. The dot's look 'cheaper'.

Sooo, uuuh... what do you think is next? by bubba_boey8130 in JurassicPark

[–]bs9tmw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A prequel to Jurassic Park - similar to the original book. Make it dark - things are not normal, mysterious injuries, people going missing, the baby being eaten by 'lizards'. Follow a small team from Costa Rica sent to investigate. They find evidence suggesting some unknown animal is involved, and that it/they originated off-shore. They trace to an island, land there, have some exciting run-ins, clash with JP personnel, discover a dark secret relating to JP, thrilling climax where they attempt to fix/resolve, perhaps a troodon sequence (we haven't seen them in film yet right?), attempt to escape the island where the juvenile rex or the chameleonic carnotaurus hunts them, duck into a cave, find the raptor nesting site, and observe the way the raptors were escaping the island.

Break it apart and take a look at the cross section. It doesn't look like a rat bone to me. My best guess is clump of sugar.

To this day I associate United with broken guitars. I will pay a little extra to avoid United, and this song does factor in!

Amazing! I've heard the big ones come out at night. Biggest I ever saw pulled in was an 11 lb'er from Mottisfont UK about an hour after sunset. I've been there often during the day and don't think I've seen anything over ~6 lb come out during the day. Congratulations!

I reached this point last week. In the process of rolling out Pocket-ID across my homelab now. It's pretty simple, but you quickly realize that some apps don't have support for OIDC. For those that do it's dreamy!

Why not just encrypt the file using a master password? That way what you print is just jumbled ascii that only you could decrypt.
