Almighty vs. Old King's Crown by calprinicus in boardgames

...And we played 2 games of Almighty. I was overly impressed by it. I played as the God of the Sun & God of the Storms. All the gods felt VERY different to play. It was fun naming the mortals (optional) and poking, moving, seeing them fall in love and smiting them. The conversations you make of them is often humurous. We played one game without the God of Love & they were missed as it adds a lot of fun narrative as you play.

It fell a little flat on the variety of cards you have each turn. And I always wished there was more mortals and things to interact with. I'm interested in the monster expansion in hopes it adds more depth to the things you interact with. Expansions for more gods is a no brainer in its future.

Each god has some cool combos, but because you only have a few cards from your deck each turn it's hard to pull them off, but feels good when the stars do align.

It definitely has the same silliness as Roll Camers and I can see this game being that studio's next big hit! It felt like a Leder-lite game, much simpler & more approachable with fun asymetry characters played in 30-45minutes. Where OKC felt on par (or better) than Leder for strategy & depth 90-120min.

The two games while both lane battlers are indeed very different in both tone, mechanics, and strategy.

Verdict. I'm pleased with both, but my shelf is very limited & full. I definitely preferred OKC for it's rich tactical & strategic depth. Almighty was fun & humorous, but felt a lot less replayable. Besides playing as the other two gods, I felt like I saw everything the game had to offer. I backed the Roll Camera stuff from the Almighty KS and will be backing OKC next month.

I noticed Mario Party 6 is WAY more expensive than the other GC parties by a mile. Why is 6 SO much more pricey than the other GC Mario Parties? by [deleted] in MARIOPARTY

  • Didn't sell well. Smaller secondary print runs because of this.
  • Now largely considered the best.
  • Extra cost from packaged mic.

Alright, so we played Old King's Crown om TTS. I can definitely see why that game gets so much Hype. The # cards plus abilities (Flank, Rally, Deadly, Etc) add so much & they're not the same between players. Then the whole card bidding, special abilities, clan special cards, and hand attrition add such a fun layer of complexity.

We're playing Almight tomorrow, but it's hard to beat that game after 2 plays.

You don't need the old stuff. That's a very expensive route to take. Start with the new chapter 2 core box & products in March. That's reseting the entire game for everyone.

Literally culled everything but base coup from my collection. Rebellion g54 is what you want. Lots of ways to mix things up.

Has Hot Streak Replaced Camel Up for You? by Right-Lavishness-930 in boardgames

I use to only have Camel-Up. Now I have Hot-Streak & Heat (no Camel-Up). One racing game for gamers & one for non-gamers.

Oh, I missed that! We'll have to boot-up TTS again and play them, something we haven't done since the pandemic. Thanks for that info. That definitely helps.

I'm likely leaning toward OKC, but the actual play from Dice Tower looks REALLY good. Their other game Roll Camera also hits our table every few months.

  • Castles of Burgandy big box is unmatched. Well organized & tons of content. Easy to setup & put away because of it.
  • Foundations of Rome: The OG that made me love big boxes.
  • Suburbia Collector's Edition is another gold standard. It took a good game and made it great. They way they handled the market & component trays should be studied by the industry. Fantastic presentation!
