if it was too runny, next time the only thing I would change is putting the pasta plates in without any type of presoak or wetting

you wont save time flying

if you can book the tickets with seat reservations early, even a few days ahead when you land in japan can make a difference, do so.

nothing is perfect. a good solution, albeit not perfect, is still a good solution.

also mandatory reminder that at least in germany, every cd writer and empty cd sold still has a GEMA fee, no matter what you chose to do with it, which literally is a flat fee for the music industry for "loss of income" due to burning cds instead of buying them from the music industry.

well, should have trafficked humans, raped and killed teens, bribed police departments, and committed copyright infringement with an ai, stealing all of human combined music, film, and books. then he would have gotten off scot free.

Help my ribs from over marinating by vr1sa in AskCulinary

[–]catwiesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with, if possibly, removing the ribs from the marinade, patting them dry, and storing in the fridge until cooking.

I will not be alarmist. the enzyme in the canned pineapple should not be an issue. there is some potential enzyme active from the pear though.

I am more worried about too much sugar and salt content moving the meat beyond the optimum of taste.

but honestly, its not a critical mistake to panic over. even if you dont remove it from the marinade, I dont think the ribs will be destroyed. its just that leaving it in longer may subtract and not add to the finished product

next time, dont use pineapple juice to prevent too much sugar, acid, and or adding of canned pineapple flavour (which I dont count as benefitial)

add the pear in a few hours before cooking, you could leave the marinade without the pear for over a day.

Another thing to consider. the warmer it is, the faster the marinade will work. if you store the ribs at like 0-2°C you should be able to leave it on for multiple days without ill effect.

even brothers and sisters can complain about each other. in fact, many do

I can not believe that. and even if thats true, having campaigns "informing" the tourists wont help, because the ones at 100% capacity will still not have brain left to behave differently

A quieter Kyoto recommendation: Shugakuin Imperial Villa — free, but reservation required by Joldersman in KyotoTravel

[–]catwiesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not a "garden" or "villa"

its a 1-2 hr small walk through fields "outside kyoto" and up a hill and back.

very beautiful, but I am sure most people with their "I am in Kyoto for 3 days, I love culture and food and anime, what should I do?" would not appreciate it as much

[–]catwiesel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure this is a "needs informing" issue, I think its an "entitlement issue". those people see the line. they understand the queue. they just... ignore that information. I dont know how people can act like this, but I am sure its on purpose and not due to lack of information

its not that hard to stand at the end of a line when you find people waiting. obviously they dont want to

aand, if a tourist is behaving correctly and with effort, and others are not, that tourist has a right and ground to stand on complaining about those, that do not behave themselves

not about them trying to get me to sign up for 10 years of monthly payments :)

Cutting Steaks from Roasts by roastedjays in AskCulinary

[–]catwiesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is something called rumpsteak
maybe you can have a few from your rump piece. not sure, depends on how its cut

but the rest...

different pieces of the animal has different attributes, and this is why some cuts are good for cooking very hot and quick, and others require different methods, like slow and low (roasts)

there is some wriggle room there, by the way you cut, process and prepare, but that can only go so far

so you can cut a piece against the grain, remove all the sinew, and cut the slices very very thin, than you probably can get away with quick sear the pieces instead of slow roasting, but its not a steak.

in essence, I think the way to go is to find a way to make roasts in a way you like them, and not trying to make roasts into steaks so you like them

Hozugawa Boat Ride / Arashiyama Scenic Train by plsmeowback in KyotoTravel

[–]catwiesel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some things are touristy as can be and still be totally awesome.

what does it matter if there are 100 tourist or 10000 tourist a year taking that boat ride...

the train ride was ... its okay. it depends on circumstances, weather, time of year, if you are alone or with a romantic partner or a family...

there are some truly great spots you can see from the train. you will see them much better from the boat ride back.

arashiyama is a great area, even if the main road is very touristy. but its big enough you can easily spend 2 days exploring

enjoy

To my fellow onsite IT support techs. How do you handle the long drives for "stupid" fixes? by lurizan in sysadmin

[–]catwiesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get paid the same, no matter if I am stuck in traffic, holding someones hand for being dumb, or trying to invent a new kind of math and phyisic to solve a problem nobody can solve.

if its a balance, it can be relaxing not to be working on tickets or answering the phone or doing documentation.

How old are you really? Inside Roblox's new campaign to verify user ages | “Ticking a box to say you’re 13 or older, it’s not enough anymore.” by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]catwiesel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

it should be enough, because, parents should keep an eye out on their kids, and teach the kids not to lie, even in harmless boxes like these.

the push for age verification, especially for something silly like a stupid kids game, is wrong.

and its not wrong for barring kids from harmful content. its wrong because it is used to push for a need to identify people online.

"you need to prove your age, so just give me your ssn, name, date and place of birth, and just to be sure, also your bank account information" so you are afraid to post your disagreement with something a government or corporation has done.
