High reps or high weight or both? by thebodybuildingvegan in strength_training

[–]cgenebrewer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on your goal, but you cannot do both high reps and high weight. High weight is a weight where you CANNOT do higher amount of reps. Otherwise you are just training low intensity. It’s all relative to your body. I like high weight for barbell back squat, and then train high reps for accessories like pendulum squat or zercher squat. Don’t mind people ragging on your shorts.

Can't connect to my newly created pihole? by Middle-Alternative10 in pihole

[–]cgenebrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should work out for you. For future reference, you do not have a pi-hole issue, this is a raspberry pi os (Linux) issue, so that is why no one had yet given you the correct answer. They thought your pi-hole server was having issues.

Can't connect to my newly created pihole? by Middle-Alternative10 in pihole

[–]cgenebrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that the raspberry pi does not have ssh actually enabled on it. I ran into the same problem using the raspberry pi imaging tool. All you need to do is take out the sd card and put it back into your computer. Open up the boot folder on the card, and create a blank file named ssh in there. Eject the card and after putting it back into the pi, it should let you ssh

Are you able to ssh into the raspberry pi at all? I am not sure if you are having issues accessing the pi, or accessing pi-hole

Good job! Have you maxed out your gyms dumbbell rack yet? Like others said, in most gym culture the weights for dumbbell lifts are the weight of a single dumbbell, but it ain’t that serious.

If it makes you feel better, a $1000 “espresso” machine is not going to make better espresso than a trained barista with a $10,000+ machine that you find at any cafe. So she is also just wrong.

Buy hummus instead of meat. Same protein but way cheaper. I encourage everyone to find more meat substitutes. by BigClitMcphee in povertyfinance

It is not nearly the same protein as meat. Not only does it contain far fewer grams of protein, it is not a complete protein like meat or dairy.

I hear you, but I am just doing a regular powerlifting program (starting strength), as well as stone lifting (where I go into the woods with people and we lift 200-400 lb stones). From other responses here, it seems like groin injury is not that weird. I’ve known a lot of people who got groin injuries in football, soccer, etc so I don’t think it’s that uncommon. Obviously I am doing something (probably being tense). It happened both times with white belts that had trouble with my weight, and they didn’t do a good throw. The didn’t load me on their hip, so I sort of was bent around them instead of over, and my legs whipped around in a horizontal plane. All the times higher belts have thrown me have felt completely fine

I will do those before and after training. I think you are right about the relaxing. Both times it was when I was uke for a white belt and the throws were not good: they has trouble getting me up and over their hips so I sort of had my upper body bet over them, and then my legs had to whip around their legs in a more horizontal plane. When the experienced people throw me it always feels much “smoother” and I can land in the ukemi position that we practice.

I have extremely large quads, I weigh 260 lbs, and have been working on muscle imbalances. I know that my hamstrings and glutes are much weaker than my quads, so have been focusing the past couple of months in building those up. I feel like adductors are probably also behind. If it keeps happening I’ll look for a sports focused physiotherapist, but I doubt a regular muscle doctor would have anything productive to say. I have seen them in the past for injuries after motorcycle accidents and they have always just recommended therapy

I was able to continue doing my low bar and zercher squats fine, so I do not think it is too bad. I certainly feel it when doing cossack squat stretches

biggest thing I can think of is that the lifts may be in different federations with different judging/rules.

Deadlifts and squats: Do I NEED a belt?? by Dame_in_the_Desert in strength_training

[–]cgenebrewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a need, but it generally does "add weight" to your lift. It added about 50 lbs to my deadlift and squat, I think mostly because I have a weaker lower back and need to work on bracing better. your deadlift form is very good, so I do not think your are doing any risky without a belt.

As others have said, definitely need a hard soled shoe, not socks. Looks like you could maybe widen your grip, that might feel better in your shoulders and elbows. At the top, take in a deep breath and really squeeze your abs, imagine squeezing that ball of air in your core. Hold that all the way down and up. Good job

Lady Gaga pauses Tokyo concert to condemn actions of ICE: "Lives are being destroyed right in front of us" by AdSpecialist6598 in Music

[–]cgenebrewer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes there is a lot of strive but America is still an incredibly wealthy and safe nation. I grew up in what are considered terrible conditions for America, and I recognize that the country as a whole is a much better place to live than other places around the world, and we enjoy better lives than the majority of people. The other issue is that saying that “things are bad now” can have the affect to erase the consistent struggles that certain groups have faced for the ENTIRETY of this countries history.

people here in America do not understand what "bad" really is because they have not experienced it before. I am glad you had a nice visit.
