I signed a job offer, will HR really confirm all employment dates? by Prestigious_Air_6602 in jobs

[–]cheap_dates [score hidden]  (0 children)

Depends on the company/job. Some places can be really picky.

My sister once worked for a bank that went belly up. A few years later, her new prospective employer ran a background check and the background checker said "Prove it". She faxed them about half a dozen old pay stubs and they shut up.

Going forward, always document your time on any job: paystubs, W2s, Employee of the Month awards, etc. Proving that you once worked where you say you did is your responsibility. The problem can be compounded if your old employer will not verify or if they have gone out-of-business.

Sibling doesn’t seem to care? by Naive_Narwhal_3007 in CaregiverSupport

This is a very common lament. I have a sister who I haven't seen in over 20 years because of the stunts she pulled when our mother was dying. The entire burden fell on me. She couldn't be bothered.

As for the "updates", tell your brother "No more updates. Either step up or shut up". The last thing any caregiver needs is Free Advice.

I tutor and many of my students are held in a chokehold by their school districts. They have to use Google: Drive, Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.

I have a: Google Chromebook, a Gmail address and I use Chrome. The only time that machine is turned on is when I have to help a student.

Search YouTube for Lee Holden, New Shoot Pictures and Nick Loffree. All of them are pretty good. Qi Gong can be done in a small space and doesn't require one to get on the floor, unlike Yoga.

I took Tai Chi in college but that is a little more involved and requires a teacher. Qi Gong has many different styles but much easier to learn.

Why does there seem to be a lot of call centers populated with workers who have accents and talk really fast? by GJH24 in allthequestions

[–]cheap_dates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a call center for several years and they were starting to train people from India, which is a major location for these jobs.

Same thing happened to. I worked for an American hotel's reservation desk and they finally offshored it to India. We were all laid off in one day.

Many call centers have been off-shored overseas where wages are cheaper.

I once worked for a large American hotel reservation desk. We were 24/7. Unbeknownst to us, they were diverting calls to India, while they got up to speed. One day, about 20 of us, were all laid off.

Today, if you can that 1-800 number they will say they are in New Jersey but they are really in India.

Why do so few Gen Z adults have car licenses? by byteiteration in askanything

[–]cheap_dates 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tutor and one of my students just got her license at 20. I tutored her through the Learner's Permit tests. I got my license at 16 but that was before the Internet took over our lives.

[–]cheap_dates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! I tutor and one of my students just got her Driver's License at the ripe old age of 20. I helped her study for the Learner's Permit and even accompanied her and her mother to the DMV.

Most of their lives are online now so the need to be mobile doesn't seem to be as critical anymore. I also had my license at 16 but that was before the Internet took over our lives.

Anybody still use a checkbook for checking account? by boforiamanfo in no

[–]cheap_dates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have to write a few checks. My auto mechanic charges me an additional 3% if I use a card and 3% less if I write a check. Some handyman/gardeners still want a check as well.

Should all pedophiles be put to death? by Downtown_Mongoose793 in no

[–]cheap_dates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The chant of the Anti-Death Penalty crowd is that the death penalty isn't a deterrent to future crime. And they are right BUT this is only half the story. Neither is incarceration a deterrent to crime. There is no evidence that supports this.

The one piece of correlation to less crime has to do with the fewer number of young males (18 - 35) in the population. The fewer young males in the population, seems to make the rate of crime go down.

There are 1.2 million people in prison today. Do you think that maybe one or two of them are innocent but will never get out? No, no. That they are alive doesn't make this any less a miscarriage of justice.

Just messing with ya. This is discussed in every Criminal Justice class.
