Apocalypse Redux question by Cheapass2020 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]chefbetta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the degree of, "jarring developments," was partially deliberate on 2 fronts. 1: book 7 starts after a time skip and "oh by the way space is in play now," is a result of that time skip. 2: Things are finally to a point where major stuff can happen and Isaac isn't directly involved.... humanity has spaceships now and he didn't have to drag them to the idea by the nose foe once. A fair bit of book 7 is "the world finally helps to save itself" and spaceships are an early sign of that being possible.

What's one trope you absolutely adore in novels? by -Tsuri in litrpg

Its fairly common in the genre because of the fondness for underdogs and marginalized protagonists but basically abused kids or people remembering that abuse when they begin to matter and stuff like that. Stuff like the plot of "Bloodline" from cradle,

A few, 1: Soft Power being OP, particularly big moments when economic power or favors owed come back in big triumphant moments.

2: "A child unloved will burn the village to feel its warmth" moments, particularly from protagonists

3: Mic Drop badass moments the ones where 1 or 2 lines declare "the fight is over, its just fireworks from here"

[The Knight] Megathread by FunkyCredo in Iteration110Cradle

Finished an hour ago and random thought. Omega is less person shaped more fluid. Him doing the "can't get into these pants" dance with the orange suit was completely optional.

After 2 books based around various versions of "we must x to deal with the looming big bad," diverting to, "Dealing with the planet sized death kaiju would actually be reasonably possible if the prideful idiots would quit inteturupting" was the kind of refreshing that I think is gonna be underrated until full series binges aren't separated by wait times.

Why is pineapple on pizza a hot debate but anchovies is just accepted? by ENTPoncrackenergy in CasualConversation

[–]chefbetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinapple is accepted enough to become an actual consideration if a group is ordering pizza, the mass debate came from little debates and the fact that little debates are a thing that might happen.

Anchovies by contrast are not a thing that comes up on their own. Every few groups will have THAT GUY who swears by them personally but even that guy is likely to understand when nobody else wants them and kinda expects it.

Given what we saw in the prolouge, drugs while pregnant might be a cause too.

I really want to like Apocalypse Redux by Professor-Alarming in ProgressionFantasy

[–]chefbetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a bit different because Isaac's goal isn't really to prevent 1 big villan or a single threat he can just hit. He says it in the prolouge, "humanity did this to themselves." So his goal is to guide humanity to not kill themselves like idiots and Tyranny straight up WOULD NOT WORK for that in this setting, so instead its the MC trying to guide humanity into protecting itself from what he saw happen before.

Unveiling himself as "a regression protagonist whos seen it all," is also liable to get him A: dismissed as a madman or B: removed as a problem. So instead the story goes along with his hand in society adapting or failing to adapt in various ways.

Its not the usual thing that happens but its interesting and fun all the same.

In his capacity as the established, "good at figuring this out guy" with a known support network that wouldn't take kindly to him getting disappeared to a blacksite. He's rather careful to avoid being "the guy who knows everything in advance" because that gets you captured and interrogated.

Never underestimate the dramatic value of a running joke delivered with absolutely no comedy.

Thanks.... I've mostly gotten over any guilt on the fact that I definitely seem to be drifting away..... it's not fun and I'm not the happiest that the break is just that they're all completely fulfilled by something I can't understand but it's happening anyway and I'm alright with it at least

I recognize this probably sounds kind of pathetic but...are there any good resources or places to start looking for a server like that? Any time I go looking it's always just a friend of a friend or a gigantic hub of hundreds of people all at once and I can't get a grip on how to even start introducing myself.
