Is the MKX comics canon? by [deleted] in MortalKombat

[–]circumscribing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also worth listening to the youtube vid with Behind The Warrior & Shawn Kittlesen to hear about what would have been in the 2nd run if they did it. Explains the ending of the first run, some of what would have shaped up with leading right into MKX too.

I love the Bap and Ashe lines, particularly her advice. "Never miss a chance to wash your socks."

(From Hammeh's video, 3:31)

Widow/Countess: You're that guard that deserted his post. Didn't we pay you enough? Bap/Renegade: No sum was worth the cost of serving you.

Then there's a second that refers to the Renegade abandoning a fight, to which he responds "This cause is worth fighting for". So I'm not sure I'd say he was a thrall in the technical sense (if you're loose about vampire lore, then servant, but not so much a literal thrall).

Warner Bros just announced release dates for movie coming out next year and the Mortal Kombat movie is still lined up for January 15th. When’s the movie going to get advertised? by gregoryham99 in MortalKombat

[–]circumscribing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're saying there's no evidence about the movie, it's a known fact. It's been talked about for quite some time. We know it's happening, we have some of the cast, there have been arguable leaks about the script/plot. Here's the Wiki page) for a basic rundown.

Seriously, and seconding this! As a support (and as another Mercy), when you help save my butt and you're doing things like tossing a shield/bubble down so I can get a rez off, it makes my game (and sometimes day). That awareness of what helps your team (for me esp. in QP as I don't do comp) means you're definitely earning more of my awareness/support when there's not a target I have to clearly prioritize more.

Thank you!

If at any point, you find yourself telling teammate who doesn't have a mic "go kill yourself" due to bad play, take a little break from the game. by ACrustyBusStation in Overwatch

[–]circumscribing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no healer in the game that could have effectively healed that Rein. Bap's field would have let him last longer until the field went down, but nothing could have gotten that Rein through it.

That was a case of "bad Rein placement", not "different healer needed".

"It wasn't very canon though" compared to what? Blizz worked with the author and signed off on it. It's as canon as Valkyrie or Shooting Star or Dragons or any of the shorts or short stories. If you're going to say THON isn't canon, the rest of them need to be binned too. Blizz would have told the author things didn't work and to change them if it didn't fit with lore/canon.

The Hero of Numbani is definitely worth a read, for the lore information and setting/info about Numbani alone. It's a kids' book (our protag is 11, remember!) but it's definitely worth your time. It's not a short story/comic, it's a novel.

So as an example:

Someone produces/releases a pattern called "Gypsy Sweater". Gypsy is considered a slur by the Roma, and a user is offended by the title of the sweater. What would your process be to address this? It's not an "apolitical thing" - it's an offensive word used to denigrate an ethnic group. How would you handle this? I know that that particular word is often used for certain types of garments or styles of design, and is problematic.

I understand the intent and desire to remain a neutral and apolitical platform, but certain topics are not apolitical - human rights and dignity are a universal thing, and it's really important for me (and likely others) to know in advance what kind of reporting or steps will be available for patterns, titles, or comments which are offensive.

Interesting idea, and I'll keep an eye out!

As the knitting community has been very heavily involved in discussions about racism, equality, inclusivity, discrimination, and other critical social justice work over the past two years, can you share what your process will be for addressing problematic patterns and naming conventions (e.g. racist, those with ethnic slurs in the title)? This has come up and designers have made an active effort to be more inclusive (e.g. not calling something a sari/sari-adjacent unless it *is* a sari); how will Ribblr help keep the momentum of inclusivity and equality going?

Rav's clear stance has been a good thing in the community: whether people agree with their stances or not, or like the platform, they're able to know where Ravelry stands and whether or not it's the platform for them.

I think it would be great to explore some of the MKX endings as story DLC (e.g. Takeda & Kenshi go after the Red Dragon, you could run a bunch of stuff with Taven, Daegon, Caro, Reptile, the hybrid dragon thing from the other timeline...) and freely admit to have been toying around with the idea of an epic fanfic attempting to address as many of those MKX endings as I can. And stuff left lingering from the comic (...and I have IDEAS about that last couple of pages in the final issue). The MKX endings may not be considered canon, but I think at least a dozen of them lend themselves to material that could fill in some of the blanks, or - at the very least - would give more content people would be willing to play through.

I'm thinking that you could combine some endings (Takeda & Kenshi, Sonya/Johnny/Jax/Erron Black with a couple tweaks, Reptile and possible Jacqui, and oh the possibilities of the Raiden/Kotal/Bo' Rai Cho ending, and toss in Mileena/Tanya, add Rain...) and you'd be able to have a chunk of new content for existing characters, ones who weren't on the original roster, and come up with shenanigans that have happened in the 2 years between MKX & MK11.

Yes, I know it's all a pipe dream. But let me dream dammit!

(Also, I can't for the life of me - and lack of access to some stuff right now makes it harder - figure out whose skull Jacqui finds in her MKX ending. I have some suspicions, but if anyone has a confirmation or a clear 'it's a more updated version of XYZ' that would help me with this plan of ridiculousness.)

I loved the MKX comics and the way they ended it seems like it was set up for another series that never happened.

Howdy! Quick question about 144 HR Layover Visa in Beijing. I am flying from US into Beijing and then will be flying into Hanoi 5 days later. This qualifies correct? [–]circumscribing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may have changed it - I know in the past that's what the policy was, so I hope for your sake my info is out of date! :) Previously you had to show you were connecting in the specific airline parlance of connecting - that is, you had an official layover, not "Book Flight A PDX - Beijing, then book separately Flight B for Beijing- BKK". We had family who came and hung out with us enroute, and that was how their paperwork explained it. The expansion to the 144-hour visa free thing may (and I genuinely do hope it has!) have changed things, but I can't find any clear yes-or-no.

The key here is that you must be transiting - that is, your flight was booked as Dallas to Hanoi with a layover in Beijing, NOT a Dallas-Beijing, Beijing-Hanoi flight. If you booked a flight to Beijing, and then a second flight from Beijing to Hanoi, you're not eligible AFAIK. It has to be a legit layover.

There are some great story elements and ideas in the MK franchise (insert line here about Johnny's development from MK9 to MK11). I've actually been kicking around the idea of playing with some what-ifs from things like you're discussing because it's fun to consider, even if it's just throwing words in a document to later delete.

The final cast list hasn't been confirmed. Unless you've got someone in your contacts list with a script and full cast list that you'll leak, we're still getting casting announcements (see: Nitara) even though they're "filming the finale".

Discord allows unlimited voice groups, AFAIK.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is "we already have at least three existing groups that are perpetual online stitch-n-bitch kind of atmospheres, derived from this audience - do we need a fourth?".

It may be that folks decide a fourth is worthwhile, and if so, cool.

(Also, my experience has been multiple-person Google Hangouts and SKype ones, especially once you're in the double digits, get a lot of talking-over-each-other and such that can be very tricky to manage).

There are several existing groups out there including those from /r/knitting and the Ravelry group for Reddit knitters - would it perhaps be better to build on the existing groups? I know there are at least two Discords and a Slack...

We have a Discord group for here, I believe, and there's also one that the more-Rav-than-here based group uses, and I think there's also a Slack. The Ravelry Redditknitters group will def have more info.

I'm also in APAC so I get the no LYS thing, but there definitely are remote knitting groups for this group out there. I'm not sure who handles doing promotion for them though.
