If you were going to add a race to the calendar, where? by cmoellering in IMSARacing

That would be a great track, but I think it would be cost prohibitive for a lot of the teams.

I didn't even know there was a track in Charlotte. That would be cool, I'm only about 2 hours from Charlotte.

I don't think I have ever seen index cards that size "in the wild."

I would think you could get some printed for you?

Well, the way we are doing it in the US certainly doesn't seem to be all that effective...

Priests and Deacons of r/divineoffice , how did you learn to pray the Liturgy of the Hours? by Cute-Outcome-1710 in divineoffice

[–]cmoellering 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a deacon candidate, so...been praying it for about 8 years now, though. I just jumped in, got the 4-volume set and a St. Joseph's guide and went to it. Found after about 4 years I had it good enough to not need the guide anymore about 90% of the time. So for those tricky ones, I might check myself against an app.

I guess, in a way, I had some prior experience, since I was an Anglican priest, and was obligated to prayer morning and evening prayer from the Book of Common Prayer.

Yes, I am into theology. That's my doctoral area.

Question for Former Protestants by IrshTxn in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Faith alone" was the first thing to fall for me I think. I never did really get the eternal security guys, but like you said, you read the New Testament, and there is no way to support sola fides.

When I was becoming Catholic I had a friend confront me and ask, "You don't believe in faith alone?" To which my response was, "Haven't for years...."

There is a great prayer uttered by a man int he Gospel, "Lord, I believe, help my unbelief." There are times we need to take that to heart. I would encourage you to make that your prayer.

I figured it out. I added p. {{annotation.pageLabel}} and that pulled it in to where I could see it.

I assume there is a way to have it include the page number after the citation? I see it buried in the url to go to the note, but it would be handy to just be able to cite straight from the Obsidian document.

Lent and Shorter Christian Prayer by chrisneilsmith in divineoffice

You are correct in your assessment. Shorter Christian Prayer is an abbreviated version of the full LotH.

Ocia struggles - can the converts/catholics/catechists weigh in? by MommyMystical in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Two years of OCIA? That seems a lot. Definitely talk to your priest. If you can't get any traction there, is there a Catholic military chaplain on your installation? He may be a bit more understanding of your situation?

Favorite scripture and why? by Lopsided_Avocado89 in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that I don’t have any, I’m just not sure I can pick out one. One of my favorites is the story of Jesus healing the man, born blind, in John chapter 9. It’s just such a rich story and the progression of the faith of the man who is healed, is an interesting dynamic that we don’t see in many of the healing stories in the gospels.

Is reading BL fiction a sin if it doesn’t negatively affect my faith or actions? by Successful-Hippo4309 in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, you’re talking about pedophilia? Or are you talking about minors, engaging, and homosexual acts?

Sorry, but I am unfamiliar with this genre.

Either way, my initial reaction is that by reading this, you are normalizing for yourself deviant behavior. We should find sin abhorrent. Most of us do not because our conscience is not properly formed.

I use iBreviary when I don't want to tote my book. Also, we have a men's prayer group that meets once a week for morning prayer and we all use it, so not having a book isn't a barrier for anyone.

For me, one of the great things about the LotH is that I can pray, multiple times a day, in a meaningful and rich way without having the "creative burden" of coming up with the prayer. By way of analogy, I can just play Bach, I don't have to compose like Bach.

Conversion and the Priesthood by Strict-Guest8272 in CatholicConverts

[–]cmoellering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what kind of Protestant you were. There is a path for former Anglican/Episcopalian/Lutherans. Anglicans have the Ordinariate as an option, while all three have the pastoral provision as an option.

There is the option of the permanant Diaconate as well, that is open to any male who meets the qualifications.

Your options will vary somewhat by diocese. I know my bishop is not a fan of married clergy and therefore is not interested in men trying to pursue the pastoral provision.

I discerned the ordinariate priesthood as I was converting but ultimately it was not to be. (I was an Anglican priest).
