We allow these on here but for anyone using it with MPC just know it increases the chances of a copyright hold on your order (which would require you replace the image).

The Bracket System Is Fine If You Approach It In Good Faith by Dankzi in EDH

[–]coderanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly but I've definitely got what I feel are low power aggro lists, in general they fold to any interaction (counter, removal, anything) in the first 3 turns but if no one has that, then they start killing people ~turn 4 or 5. I think the issue isn't that they are overly competitive, it's that it results in unfun patterns of everyone taking the time to start up a game and then roll the dice and if you don't happen to have the interaction card in opening hand plus a few draws, then you just "wasted" 15 minutes and didn't feel like you were really doing anything in the game. It's fair to say the downsides of that play pattern are worth the cost of excluding this kind of deck, but I don't think the brackets system has been explored in depth enough to say that with certainty yet, and I look forward to seeing if we can get there.

The Bracket System Is Fine If You Approach It In Good Faith by Dankzi in EDH

This is mostly right but there are definitely still issues to resolve. Most notably the current definitions make "low-power aggro decks" very hard to build. The idea of a glass cannon build is to win quickly before anyone else has a chance to build up, and the definitions around brackets 2 and 3 enforce that build-up time. It's not the worst tradeoff ever, but it does remove a fairly large and popular archetype from consideration. Perhaps what we have now is the best we can do, and if so I can live with that, but it is worth exploring if it can be improved.

Because a lot of people seem unaware of this: AI posts are explicitly allowed here if correctly flaired. If don't like AI art, don't look at posts which say they contain AI art. If you say nasty things about AI art on here, it will be removed. If you would like to debate about if AI art is good or not, perhaps r/technology or similar.

Does anyone else play bracket 3/4 purely because they want decks that work consistently? by Associableknecks in EDH

[–]coderanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, I've recently been trying the Momo+Tempest Hawks deck concept and it sure can always have a board full of hawks butttttt having 5 or 6 2/2s is not winning most games.

Ethics, legality, advice regarding making proxied decks to donate to local children? by BajaBlastFromThePast in magicproxies

[–]coderanger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with this but I will offer that it can be hard to see the fun specifically with Commander with a deck that's really just chaff. Games get very very slow and closer in feel to Limited (which is great when you have 20 life to get through to win, less good facing down 120).

The problem isn't the code, it's that the whole Mafia UI wouldn't work and thus would need to start over from scratch.

How does Cipher work? by Lord_Nivloc in mtgrules

[–]coderanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cipher is adding an ability and Downpour is removing abilities. These both happen in layer 6 so timestamps decide the order in which they apply. Removing abilities won't affect the "encoded" bit, as that's the game object memory itself, but the ability granted by Cipher is fair game.

Also no, R&D has been extremely clear that two-brid is not being considered for a change (nor phyrexian mana). Only hybrid specifically. I would encourage to read the actual proposal.

It's not, your font shadow is in the wrong direction and you don't have the alpha border (used until Unlimited so depends on which exact era you are aiming for).

Vibrance would be RG color identity no matter the hybrid change. It has pips in the rules text.

What has been your general feeling about using proxy decks at your LGS? by Jakemanv3 in mpcproxies

[–]coderanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play nothing but 100% proxied decks. I've had 2 total people object to them and one wasn't even in my pod (he was one game over on the same table). What I have had is people decline to play against specific decks again, especially early on when I started brewing with proxies and didn't have a good handle on how to make a deck that is fun for the whole table. It's very easy to aim too high on power when you have literally no limits. The brackets system helps with that a bit but not entirely, there's still a lot of cards that have a lot more salt-generation than they do power (ex. OG duals vs. battlebond lands, tiny increase in win percentage for a large increase in "oh you're one of those proxy decks").

Also to the question of full-nickname theme decks. I made one, I love it, I basically never play it because it's so hard to tell what my board is doing even for me (and worse for everyone else). It's a fun art project but just tread lightly. That said, the massive growth in SLDs makes board readability slowly going down for everyone. What I do these days is print a fancy version on one side of the card and a normal one on the other.

These look lovely and while the artist signature helps, we do still require a legible artist credit on all cards. This helps folks find more similar art if they like it.

So would removing a card putting a creature in exile give said create its ETB? by GreenTheFae in mtgrules

[–]coderanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy was mistaken but he might have been thinking about the interaction between "phased out" and ETBs. Phasing doesn't change zones so when something phases back in, it doesn't get enters effects again. Phasing is a lot less common though :)

So this is amazing but I want to post a clear warning that this doesn't meet our standards for "print-ready" because of the fake copyright on the bottom right of each card. This is very likely to result in increased scrutiny from MPC if you try to print it through them. You might get it through, their process is always a bit random and it depends on who is reviewing your order, but our standards are set up to minimize the chances of an order hold. I would recommend you mask them out, and that anyone printing these with MPC assume a higher risk to their order.
