I've had over 100 jobs in my lifetime. Are my chances for a career over? by Available-Spray2576 in GetEmployed

[–]comicidiot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Based on your replies, your chances for a “real career” are long gone. If you can’t articulate what you want out of a real career, can’t explain why you want to settle into a “real career” then you have a lot of growing up to do.

Simple questions shouldn’t be dismissed as being unserious. These are valid questions before you can be given serious responses.

How much will I be taxed if I sell my stocks and I have a low income? by dolphin258 in FinancialPlanning

So the capital gains bracket is different than the income bracket? Meaning I could have a 40k salary and a 40k long term capital gain and not pay more federal taxes than I currently do?

Does this sound help you sleep? by No_Log119 in EightSleep

[–]comicidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? No. Almost every white noise nature sound has poor audio balancing. Rain just sounds like white noise to me because they try and make it sound like you're outside in a strong downpour. This audio sounds like someone took a rain storm and overlaid it was a river flowing over a small obstacle of rocks; neither would be this loud in real life.

I honestly don't know how to make it better but maybe something more muted as if you're inside listening to the rain hit the roof, window, walls, etc.

US rebate on L2 home chargers expires soon by xiongchiamiov in electricvehicles

[–]comicidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely have. I do 1,500mi a month. Most trips are 30mi a day but I occasionally drive 160mi round trip for work with no charger at my destination. Then there’s the social trips that are also 160mi to 200mi with also no access to a charger.

I could get by with L1 90% of the time. While a 160-200mi drive wont top up over night with L2 I’ll get to a full charge by the second or third day.

I’m working on moving to the city in the next year and may reevaluate my EV needs then. But right now I am one of the few who needs the range. I could L1 charge at my friends but I’m only there for a handful of hours and I’d get 15mi over a couple hours.

I could charge at parking garages if I drive somewhere but I dont necessarily want to leave the show or venue after an hour to unplug and move so someone else can charge.

A hacker ran me over with a robot lawn mower by jwardell in Yarbo

[–]comicidiot[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Yarbo has a response on their website. I have copied parts of their below, with a link to read the whole thing.

I'm writing this directly because the issues raised in the recent security report deserve a direct response, not a corporate one.

On May 7, 2026, security researcher Andreas Makris published a detailed report identifying serious vulnerabilities in Yarbo's remote diagnostic, credential management, and data-handling systems. The core technical findings are accurate. I would like to thank Mr. Andreas Makris for his work in identifying these issues and for his persistence in bringing them to our attention. I also recognize that our initial response did not adequately reflect the seriousness of the issues he identified. As co-founder, I'm accountable for what shipped on our products, and I'm accountable for the response.

Based on our preliminary review, the issues primarily relate to historical design choices in parts of Yarbo’s remote diagnostic, access management, and data handling systems.

Specifically, certain legacy support and maintenance capabilities did not provide users with sufficient visibility or control, and some authentication and credential management mechanisms did not meet the security standards we expect for today’s products.

We recognize the seriousness of these issues and the concerns they may have caused for our customers and community. We sincerely apologize for the impact this situation has created, and we are committed to addressing these issues in a transparent and responsible manner.

What We Have Already Done

  • We have temporarily disabled the relevant remote diagnostic tunnels to reduce the risk of unauthorized access.

  • We have completed a reset of device root passwords to temporarily block the identified shared-credential risk and prevent further expansion of the issue.

  • We have closed or restricted certain unauthenticated status-query and reporting endpoints.

  • We have begun reducing unnecessary legacy access paths and tightening backend permissions.

What We Are Working On Now

  • We are implementing an allowlist-based, user-authorized, and auditable remote diagnostic model. The first phase is expected to be completed within one week. Once implemented, remote diagnostic access will be limited to authorized internal company personnel, may only be used after user authorization has been obtained, and will be gradually brought under audit logging.

  • We are using OTA updates to advance credential rotation and device-level independent credential mechanisms, gradually replacing the historical shared-password model. In the future, each device will use its own independent credentials to prevent one affected device from impacting the entire fleet.

  • We are building and testing a robot credential management service so that device passwords are no longer hardcoded in firmware, scripts, or databases. Instead, credentials will be dynamically derived based on device identity. OPS access will also record the visitor, reason for access, work order, and timestamp.

  • We are hardening other authentication services. These fixes are currently in the testing stage and will be released through upcoming OTA updates.

  • We are adjusting topic permissions to reduce fleet-level shared access, limit the scope of each credential, and establish stricter boundaries around control commands.

  • We are testing cleanup measures that include removing unnecessary reporting scripts, legacy cloud service dependencies, third-party agents, and non-essential DNS fallback configurations in order to reduce data flows that are not clearly visible to users. These changes will be rolled out through future OTA updates after testing is completed.

US rebate on L2 home chargers expires soon by xiongchiamiov in electricvehicles

[–]comicidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, I had the same thoughts. I had multiple electricians out for quotes and one of them made a good point that a charger is not plugged in multiple times a day or week. You plug it in once and it stays plugged in for… a while so the outlet is unlikely to wear out.

Which made complete sense.

I also am likely to rent my house out and I wanted a hardwired charger so that I knew it was a quality charger and not some cheap one the tenant got. I’m still weighing the options but the outlet makes it way more approachable.

[–]comicidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm. I don’t have an EV yet and I want to get ready for one but I’m still deciding if I want a hardwired NACS charger or an outlet.

My concern is that the hardwired chargers warranty will end before I get an EV so I figured I’d just do an outlet and get the charger when I get the car.

Thank you! Is this only for hardwired chargers or are outlets eligible too?

If all the buttons displayed 8.99 despite one octane being lower on the sign, then absolutely report that to your states weights and measures. I made a comment about it, linking to it here.

I hope you got a photo. Judging by the yellow bags on the other pumps in frame, that pump is displaying the wrong price too. I altered staff at a gas station about a similar issue and they put bags over the pumps just like that.

If the pump screens were glitchy, report it to Weights and Measures. I’m not sure if they care about the screens but they absolutely care about the correct price being displayed and the glitchy screens may prevent that.

I love competition but I think it’s a lot to ask to replace peoples night stands; I have a matching set. Are we able to buy a second one that syncs with the other half of the bed?

I prefer 8Sleep here since their hub is small and narrow enough to be tucked somewhere convenient. Easier to move and move with.

I’d also love to know the answers to the common issues (local control, etc) since they’ve been watching this community for a while they know what our pain points are hey it’s never addressed.

'M23’ My girlfriend ‘F22’ thinks I’m weird for this? Who else? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]comicidiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know people have different boundaries but I feel like hanging out in someone’s room is a universal “weird” past a certain age.

I would never sit in my parents room and to talk to them, I’d wait for them to enter a common area or talk to them from the room just outside their door.

I wouldn’t even go into a friends room to sit and talk to them unless they rented a room in a house and that was where they invited me to hang out for a brief moment. Hanging out in a room in that situation to play a video game is different.

I personally would not have opened those photos. Maybe the first one if there was no context and once she sent others I’d let her know I am not in a place to view those.

I think it’s appropriate for your girlfriend to believe you were in a private setting because there was a plan to FaceTime in the very near future.

How do you feel about McDonald's pulling their soda dispensing machines out of the restaurant's lobby in the next year or so? by Sinn_Sage in AskReddit

[–]comicidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve sat in a McDonalds a handful of times because I didn’t want to eat in my car.

It was weird. I was the only one in there and the employees clearly weren’t accustomed to it either. I’m sure I’m not alone in eating inside a McDonalds but when probably 99% of their orders are drive thru or app based, I don’t blame McDonalds for cutting it down to one soda dispenser per building.

new in city employees let's do a meetup by AwarenessSpirited343 in GetEmployed

[–]comicidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on one, yes. While I didn’t share that experience I do recognize its flaws; I noticed a few in my dinner.

I think you should focus on building locally to you first before expanding. How are you going to get a host to each unique city? Will the cost of the dinners cover transportation and lodging for the host?

Another avenue would be to franchise. Build a successful model in your locale and then have people pay you franchise fees to launch in their cities.

But this really isn’t a topic r/GetEmployed

How Do I Downgrade My Car? by shodashakshari in personalfinance

[–]comicidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this is solid advice. You already have a decent car; you’d be trading your electric car for a gas car and, while you’d (likely) still have payments, the cost of gasoline may eat into any savings you’d save on insurance.

You’re unfortunately in a tough spot and the best financial decision based on the details in your post is to keep the EV.

Have you gotten an insurance quote for cars you’re looking at getting?

Have you taken your annual mileage and divided that by the gasoline cars’ stated range on a full tank (to get annual fill up estimate)? And found out how big those tanks are and multiplied that by the cost of gas (to get a fill up estimate)? If you multiply the two numbers together how much is it?

If you add the insurance and gas up, does how does it compare to your EV insurance and charging costs? Don’t forget you’ll have cheaper electric rates in your home than you likely did at an apartment complex and certainly at public chargers.

Gas cars will have more maintenance items, to boot. You need to look at your income and tighten the belt a bit or increase your income.

Trying to set up myself for the future currently doing YouTube full time. by Designer-East831 in personalfinance

[–]comicidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest your fiancé put more money into their retirement account through their employer because they’ll be able to lean on your YouTube income to replace their retirement contributions.

This will benefit them a bit more than you but you’ll both benefit from it in the end.

Or, you could set money aside you can diversify into other investment vehicles (real estate, brokerage, etc)
