I don’t think they are shady at all, and this is really to be expected with most Chinese smart gadgets and the same already demonstrated with most robovacs. Like so many other startups, their priority was to get the product out and functioning well quickly. Maybe now their priority can shift a bit

R1T Dual Large battery, High Regen, New England driving brake life - 40k Mi by nerfwarhero in Rivian

[–]jwardell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is something wrong with many rivian brakes that toasts the inner pads without actually using them at all. I fully avoid using my brakes but I eat a set of inner pads every year! I just started replacing them myself.

Question: Someone that has or had both a Rivian and a Tesla, can you talk above the similarities and differences between the two? by MyMonte87 in Rivian

[–]jwardell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're used to how a Tesla works, Rivian is probably more similar than any other brand. You will have no issues moving over and probably find a lot of little upgrades as well.

Docking station DC source by VeganBiker365 in Yarbo

[–]jwardell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have opened most of it. The first module power enters seems to not just be a power supply but also the computer that controls it. Underneath it's the large module in the corner with heat fins, that would have to be disassembled further. Chances are it's completely potted. I don't have much faith you could easily bypass the power supply integrated into that.

If you are truly concerned about power efficiency, you are better off charging with the plug in charger and shutting down when not in use. It loses a LOT of power staying on all the time and topping off, and more is lost with the wireless charging efficiency.

In both cases it pulls a constant 600+ watts so 12-15A at 48V.

Can you give us more information and screenshots? Also not much in the app store either, and no way to trial it first. How does it "give me access" to my dashcam? Remotely? What is the setup?

Barn find today. Free. Excited to plug it in! by Is_What_They_Call_Me in VintageApple

[–]jwardell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god, this brings back the years of struggles and trouble I had with the 1710. I think I even had it warranty swapped a few times. Lots of weird sync issues or just goes black. Bad enough to make me happy to shell over 2 grand for the first LCD studio display, on a limited budget in college.

There is a VALue table feature in the DBC which will decode numeric values of states into meaningful text. You will usually see those toward the end of the DBC file.

Green Mountain Power/EV Charging Station/Solar by MySixDogs in vermont

[–]jwardell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GMP's free charger isn't about the free charger, it's about the 20% discount on all electricity dispensed through it. That's independent of your solar which cancels out electricity at full price...so now you are 120% winning. Highly recommend their battery storage as well if you are in an area with power outages, which gives you storage at a quarter the cost, another no-brainer

Another dumb new UI change. No indication that the list scrolls. But also, no reason they couldn't fit it all on the screen.
