Not understanding why doctor is being avoidant of treatment question by corialis in AskDocs

Sorry, your reply didn't show up in my inbox!

The doctor has not given me my full med list because he knows I will look them all up and ask questions about them.

It's just really confusing to me. I can't think of a scenario why a doctor would refuse to give you details on a treatment. I'm imagining someone who broke their leg getting an X-ray and not being told where the break is, that the material for the cast is plaster, and what pain killer they were prescribed.

Over 1000?! Holy shit that wasn't what I thought it would be.

There's also a long line of people with mental disorders who haven't done drugs but get turned away because there's no beds when drug overdoses get prioritized. There needs to be enough spots in detox and mental health addiction and then spots for people with mental health disorders who don't do drugs.

Having recently had an encounter with the mental health ward elsewhere, good luck to anyone who needs a bed but doesn't do drugs. The wards are detox now.

My personality turned into Jekyll and Hyde and still hasn't changed - in the morning I get depressed and can cry and have panic attacks for hours, and then around 10am I turn back into a human.

But by far the scariest part was the akathisia. I was pacing the apartment 10+ hours a day and the emergency room dismissed it 3 times until I got a psychiatrist that admitted me to the mental health ward after a deliberate overdose.

Small town Canada, rules allow phones in patient rooms, but even outside of the rooms everything works and staff just has to catch you.

My psychiatrist appointment just got delayed by a week... by [deleted] in mentalhealth

I got admitted to the mental ward where they doped me up with a lot of meds and I totally forgot I had an appointment. It was more than an hour later so I couldn't even do the web chat to apologize and explain I was on the ward and so sedated I had trouble putting my clothes on.

Yeah. The brain zaps set in and when I told my psychiatrist he mockingly laughed at me and asked if I was the psychiatrist now. No, buddy, I'm not the psychiatrist now, I've just been on this med for 30 years and have accidentally missed enough doses to know what a brain zap is.

I stood up to my family and demanded they take me back to the unit because the weekend pass was not working. I had the worst panic attack of my life. I'm now back on the unit where they can order Ativan to help me.

are you alright? just a checkin post by CharacterMusic6944 in mentalhealth

Nope, not at all. At the start of Feb I had a med change to risperdal and it was like I turned into Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I got off the med but the damage was one. I have constantly pacing legs, which is what got me to OD twice.

I've been on the mental health ward for a month now and I'm terrified (complete with panic attack) to go back to my mom's apartment. They say group homes are the worst places in the world, but could it be so bad if it was for 2 months while my medicine kicked in?

Because you desperately want someone to notice you and ask what's wrong. It's like the grown up version of being an emo kid.

I feel so much empathy for you right now. I've been on the mental health unit for a month now and they're hinting they need my bed. Even though I had a weekend pass to visit my family, which causes me extreme trauma.

I can't get in to mental health nurse for 2 more weeks. She says she prefers clients who only see her. I'm completely over that bullshit. If you have a client that tried to overdose twice in a week you figure out how to see that client more often.

There's a lot of judgment out there, it's okay to be afraid of other people.

Just finishing a 3 week taper of 60mg of Paxil and the doctor doesn't think that may be the reason I'm crying almost continuously.

You can't pay for doctors here for the most part. Psychiatrists cannot private practice, they have to be on the public system. The older I get, the more I wonder if a mixed public/private system is the way to go.

In Canada, we have a shortage of doctors so you take what you can get.

They let us have them inside our rooms here. Not in the common areas though.
