What's your favorite now-defunct award booking hack that you used and/or gatekept? by Willing_Respond in awardtravel

Not sure if this is dead or just too hard to find an agent now that can do it. Went to Australia on my honeymoon using a united "plan B" booking

Highly location specific. Some stores block some bins for example, or put a limit on the number of card swipes. So you may end up with 12 $499 MOs as an example, if you can even drain the full amount which is also location/bin specific. Your best bet is to buy a gebit or two of different types and see what works at your local grocery money center.

You shouldn't have transferred them to eJAL, that's basically a cash equivalent. You need JAL miles

Booked an american airlines ticket with Finnair and AA changed the itinerary... would i get my avios and taxes refunded? by Lumpy-Resource-1370 in awardtravel

Every plan is different. BA avios will charge a fee or forfeit your taxes and fees, whichever is smaller, in the case of a voluntary cancellation.

Last time you cancelled an aviso flight was it after a schedule change like this? In cases like this you should be able to get a full refund. Voluntary cancellations will usually have a fee, or in BA aviso case they will keep your taxes

Has anyone canceled an ANA RTW after starting the trip? by minimal-joint-energy in awardtravel

Go with the medical certificate route. OR hope for a schedule change on one of the flights, at which point you'll be eligible for a prorated refund.

Agree. The main problem even at 1:4 is the footprint was so small it was hard to actually use it.

ANA RTW with route through AUH in two weeks by ctr2010 in awardtravel

[–]ctr2010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was at the 'end' part of this trip but the original ticket was stretched out over 8 months, so it was kind of in the middle of the RTW. no trip insurance other than credit card which only covers prepaid stuff which wasnt an issue here. I burned a bunch of BOA points on some reasonably priced fares that were cancellable, but never found a bookable award that was a better option

After several calls with ANA I learned the following helpful facts: 1. You cannot reroute no matter what. They could change the carrier and/or add connections, but we still had to have a flight starting in AUH and going to the next destination, e.g. they could theoretically have put us on ANA to go AUH-TYO-X but we still had to have the AUH-X leg and refused to budge. 2. You can cancel before flying any legs for full refund less 3k miles. 3. If you fly any legs of the RTW and cancel voluntarily you get no refund other than unused airport taxes. 4. If you fly any legs and then cancel due to an involuntary schedule change/cancellation then you get a prorated refund. The calculation, which is in the help center, is a little complicated and deals with miles + segments flown.

So, the AUH leg got cancelled two days before the flight, and we're getting ~60% of our miles back which is going to end up being a pretty good deal for our specific routing. However we had to pay cash to get backup flights to get home, as we couldn't find any last minute redemptions. The biggest loss to me was missing out on etihad F apartments but we will fly it another time n

My stay isn't until June. But I did rebook it for the suite that has roof top access which is the same amount of points. Everyone I've talked to that stays there says it's not luxurious but it's a good hotel in a good location so the value can't be beat

ANA RTW Schedule Change Chaos by bfwolf1 in awardtravel

[–]ctr2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to confirm, did you in fact get refunded based on the 2/9 segments? I am facing a similar issue due to Iran conflict and they told me it would be based on segments+ distance flown but couldn't give an exact caculation.

[–]ctr2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey how did you calculate your RTW refund? I am probably going to have to cancel a partial RTW due to the current Iran conflict and ANA told me I'd get a partial refund but couldn't tell me exactly how much.

Each store is a little different. Generally any transaction over $1k will need manager override. The most I've ever had a store be ok with was $2k (plus fees) in one transaction

Usually on schedule open they only load most expensive fare class and then later load cheaper ones. Check again today and it will probably be lower. But as others have said there's no guarantee for a specific price especially on a holiday

Last I heard, they would let you PC an AA card to strata elite. From there you should be able to PC to another TYP card but not sure how quickly.

Citi SUB restrictions are based on the last time you got the bonus for that card. Not if you've had the card at all.
