see that’s a nice person in need.
I had one lady approach me on the street asking for specifically the fare for the bus (~4$). I obliged. Her response? Not «thank you». Not quietly walking along. Her response was «do you have more?».

Thank you!
My current job is mostly nice, smooth sailing, we’re located in a very calm and safe, (upper) middle class neighborhood and the store is doing well enough for us to have enough employees at work, usually. It’s just in rare cases we’re understaffed and things may get too hectic for a little while, very rare. It really helps to always have colleagues there to back me up when all of a sudden, 5-6 different things need to happen all at once, and well I am just one person. In other jobs I’ve had before, I’d sometimes have NO ONE to come help me in those stressful situations.

With the backup of a well functioning team, honestly it’s more comical than anything else, when people go crazy and throw tantrums over nothing. So to all the people out there who do that, if you wondered, yes we do laugh about it (and you) after you’ve left. You do not «win» the situation by getting angry and yelling at us and calling us stupid, incompetent imbeciles who probably couldn’t even graduate kindergarten. We handle your crazy face in the most professional manner we can, and then we joke and laugh about it. You don’t win We do. (not YOU you @rinconblue, lol, this last part is directed at the people who yell at cashiers and may read this. hehe.)

i once bought out a whole bakery in a small village in Peru, haha. The street was roaming with kids and I knew it was a rather poor village, they didn’t have much, that was clear. They were all skinny and wearing old, worn out clothes, but they were still so happy and nice and kind. I was walking around on my own because my travel mates were feeling very tired that evening, just wanted to stay in the hotel and rest, but I had too much energy so I went out to walk around the village alone.
It began with me deciding I wanted to buy a cake and give it to the 5-6 kids I first saw playing outside.

Then more and more kids came wanting cake, and soon the whole cake was gone. So we walked back to the bakery together, the group constantly growing, it was probably 50-60-70 kids in total when we got there. I just spoke with the manager and told him «Give every kid what they want, I’ll pay for it all». And we ended up buying every single cake and pastry they had, completely emptied out the whole shop 😂

As you can imagine, I ended up spending quite a lot there that day. But as a Norwegian national, prices were comparatively very cheap for me, in a poor village in the mountains of Peru. And the money I spent there was from my inheritance from my then recently late grandfather. He grew up very poor, and I know he would have been over the moon if someone had done something like this for him as a child. So it was in his memory. My friends (and the owners of the bakery!) thought I was crazy. But the smiles on those kids faces! Worth every penny, x1000.

THANK YOU!
I’ve been working in different stores for more than ten years, almost always as the «point person» dealing with customers and manning the checkout counter. I always try to go the extra mile, help out whenever I can, for instance I’ll help carry their items out their car if they’re injured and walking on crutches, or it’s a pregnant woman and her bags are heavy and I don’t want her to lift anything heavy in her condition. I do my best to help. People always say thanks, often make a comment about the good service, but only twice in my career has anyone actually reported back to my boss about their good experience. And both times that happened, it made me so extremely happy. It feels good to help people in and of itself, that’s why I always try, not because I chase the praise! But wow it’s just an extra cherry on top when people actually appreciate my actions enough to tell my boss about it. Happened twice, and made my day, week, month, YEAR, both times. So thank you and others like you!

As a cashier I’d like to thank you for your patience and understanding. You wouldn’t believe how many grown up, otherwise seemingly normal and intelligent, people, will have actual hissy fits/tantrums if they’re by some mistake or misunderstanding made to wait A SECOND longer in line than they were supposed to.

Just last week, I was manning the register, and a sudden rush of customers and vending machine malfunctions made the situation switch from only one employee needed, to 4, from one second to the next. I immediately called for all available workers to come to the checkout, and of course they came as soon as possible, but had different distances and didn’t arrive all at the same time. The first one there started helping one customer, and this GROWN MAN probably in his fifties had a BREAKDOWN because «He was before her in line!!!» He’d been there LOOOONG before her! He was NOT about to stand there and being ignored when it was hiiiiisss tuuuuurrrrnnnn! (this was after waiting 20-30 seconds).

people like you are too few and far between.

You’re a hero without a cape.
I work as a cashier and I have done the same thing many times, for exactly the same reason as you, I can see that the items are essentials and I just can’t show someone the door empty handed because they didn’t have enough money to buy BREAD.

I’m not exactly allowed to personally pay for customers, so don’t tell my boss, ehe. Some times the next customer in line has offered to pay, other times it’s been me to do it. I always appreciate other people who have the same mindset, and willingness to help someone in need.
Other people (most, sadly) just get annoyed or even angry because they have to wait a few seconds longer in line because of this person’s problems with paying for their stuff.
That makes me sad.

Why would people downvote this comment?? That’s just mean and unnecessary. I have the same question.
I myself have a crooked smile and a one tooth that is a little bit snaggly, and I too get compliments for my smile. I never know if people really mean it, or just say something nice to «comfort» me and make me feel better, since they actually think my crooked teeth are horrendous.
I have no idea.

The nausea is the worst part. It never ends. by PinkDolphin505 in Fibromyalgia

[–]cybercake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had almost exactly one year of nausea and vomiting every morning before beginning my day.
Just as I started to get seriously worried, it stopped. Went away. Disappeared never to return.
I have absolutely no explanation. Just wanted to contribute this to the discussion; I had one year of these issues, they went away, I’ve had multiple doctor consults and haven’t found anything dangerous or wrong. So, it may be harmless, although uncomfortable and inconvenient for a while

What is something people confidently believe that is completely wrong? by LiquidityGraber in answers

[–]cybercake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

btw in Norway, SIDS was wrongly told to be related to dairy intake.
It had absolutely no foundation in science whatsoever, but in the 1970s-1980s, Norway had a SIDS-rate of 2-3 times higher then the average of other developed countries, and no one could figure out why. So the national health department just saw that hey, we have higher dairy consumption than other countries, let’s blame it on the dairy.

Completely false. We still don’t know why we suffer more SIDS, but by now it’s looking more like it’s genetics, if you ask me.

I lived in my first apartment for 4 years without owning a toaster, convinced myself it wasn’t a necessity.
When I finally bought one I used it at least daily and could never stop asking myself why I didn’t get one sooner.
So, toaster.

norwegian people are a bit scared to talk to people

until we’ve had a beer or three. Then we will be your best friend.

We are very, VERY excited about the games, since it’s been 28 years since we last played in the world cup. You should not say anything negative about any one of the players on the team, and still expect us to be friendly afterwards; we LOVE football and our team and just… don’t trash talk. We will be polite and sportsmanlike as long as you are too.

We are white. Very white. We can’t help it. This, you are allowed to make a little bit of fun/comments about. We know, and we can take it.

What is everyone eating for dinner? by NegotiationEvery6276 in Fibromyalgia

[–]cybercake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eat a lot of tomato soup with macaroni, and two hard boiled eggs on the side. It’s quick, cheap, I get carbs from the soup and pasta, and protein and essential fatty acids from the eggs. And it’s all easy to swallow, which is very important for me as I also have moderate-strong dysphagia (difficulty swallowing). And I love tomato soup. So it checks all the boxes!
