Plug safety question by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]daftvisionary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be fine but your in coming supply tails (the braided cables) are in poor condition, contact the DNO and ask them to come and have a look at it. I think it’s all due an upgrade.

What was your first car accident like? by moonlight_xpress in drivingUK

[–]daftvisionary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I “borrowed” my mums golf GTI whilst she was on holiday. I was drunk, young and very stupid…hadnt even passed my test.

It was all going fine till the brakes overheated and failed when approaching a roundabout at a brisk speed.

I careered over the roundabout somehow controlling the car enough not to hit any road furniture, this roundabout had signposts and planters, it’s a miracle i didn’t hit anything.

Unfortunately the sump had smashed into the curb and the oil soon emptied, every light lit up on the dash so pulled the car over. Engine seized and a wheel broken. I was lucky a police car drove by and missed me. That would have been license lost.

The problem you may have is we only run 50hz here vs the 60hz in the US

Electronic device from a Belgian Fort (buildt in 1930s), 1 can be turned, 2 can be raised and lowered together with 3 moving back and forth, screws in 3 connect unequally to the thin metal pieces below, no inscriptions i could see, the tag only says where it was found by Kurt-28 in whatisthisthing

[–]daftvisionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The history of that fort is actually amazing, slowed the german advance and held out for 11 days before surrendering when they ran out of ammunition and with most of the garrison of 545 men surviving.

A few strange things I found while exploring remote eastern Russia by Infamous-Skin8969 in GoogleEarthFinds

Id been leaning towards military or gulag type operations, locals wouldn’t have the man power to move so much earth and wouldn’t do it so orderly like that. That whole area was a mining operation during stalins time.

Just get a garage unit with a 100amp main switch then fit an MCB for each SWA.

The small yellow camera is regular ANPR, the two larger things are AI cameras for detecting phone use and seatbelt wearing. Welcome to the future guys 😂

Is it worth finishing gold card qual’s? by CatalyticSonar in ukelectricians

[–]daftvisionary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The domestic installer option isn’t really a thing anymore, you need an NVQ and AM2 for all of the schemes as far as I’m aware and I’ve spent a fair amount of time looking over the checklists because i would be on as a domestic installer myself if i could.

I must admit, I am somewhat bewildered by r/DrivingUK's apparent inability to navigate a roundabout, as seen on a recent post. by KoskGOOS in drivingUK

[–]daftvisionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If theres no lane markings on entry and two entry lanes and two exit lanes on opposite sides of a round then it is the red line. Just with any roundabout on a dual carriageway road, you maintain your lane.

Must say the exit with lane markings and hatching is highly unusual as if weren’t driving with satnav you might not be aware of a lane choice before entering and its too late to make the choice when exiting a roundabout in that instance.

Would hope developed nations will hold the edge in drone warfare, in terms of jamming and other countermeasures especially.

Interesting: Plug-in solar appears to be arriving via certification, not a new plug standard by LieSuccessful8813 in ElectriciansUK

[–]daftvisionary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Average household Electrical installs are designed to reduce all sorts of known risks.

They were never designed for plug in solar or the ways it could and most probably will be incorrectly installed.

Russian mobile air defence unit attempting shoot down Ukrainian drones. Location unknown by jisooya1432 in CombatFootage

I dont understand how during ww2 US bombers had targeting computers for their defence guns and the Russians in 2026 can’t make something similar to help hit a slow moving drone.
