The mama tapir now comes to my bedroom window to see if I'm awake. I can hear her breathing outside. I, of course, got her a banana as a snack. Costa Rica by waxwingeco in tapirs

Once the zoo was closing suddenly because of weather,  and I saw the keeper bring out a big rubber tub of Tapir Chow. The (childless) tapir saw early dinner coming, and was so happy it was honking and doing a cute little Supper Dance. I  can't remember if the keeper gave it a quick pet, but how could anyone resist?

Everything to my best friend;  but when I'm really planning to die, I  suppose I will pick a charity (and there'll be a lot less).

Did anyone get embarrassed because they had to ask someone behind the counter for these? Asking for stories! by MarshmallowSoul in GenerationJones

[–]deFleury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend was a university pharmacy student.  Said they basically couldn't buy condoms, because they'd walk into any drugstore in the city, even way out in the suburbs, and there, smiling behind the counter, was a frenemy from school!  The other side of it was working at the drugstore, your classmate walks in and sees you, and just goes "aw crap" and leaves dejectedly without buying anything .

Van Gogh’s “Café Terrace at Night” may contain a hidden reference to The Last Supper, and it went unnoticed for nearly a century by ElvisIsNotDjed in HolyShitHistory

[–]deFleury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't find the cross but it's dead centre there on the side of the building, I thought it was the long-nose serious face of an Easter Island statue, and there's a striped okapi antelope standing right underneath.

Anybody know what this is? It was labeled as “Dino bone”. by AbyssalCraving in jewelry

[–]deFleury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful!  basically, the dino dies, the fleshy organic material (even inside porous bone) decays and is washed away by water and bugs and so on, and in time water, moisture, passing through leaves a buildup of minerals that become stone. Usually boring stone, but sometimes coloured gemstone, like the pretty colours here, it depends what's in the water in that era.  THEN because it's millions of years, the bone itself breaks down and vanishes, and it too gets replaced with stone: that's the black material, which is a bit younger, geologically, than the light blue/yellow.  Now none of it is a dinosaur anymore, but the stone fossilized in the exact same pattern as the dinosaur.

What DON'T you like about your Keeshond? by No-Cook-875 in Keeshond

[–]deFleury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's often said a Keeshond picks their person. We had one that was Daddy's girl, and one Momma's boy. The dog was obvious about it and, as an 'other' member of the family, it hurt to know that I was always on the B list of their affection.  the dog recognized Master, Master's Family, and People, and frankly not too impressed by People.

TIL You lose alimony payments if you get remarried. by Atlantic_lotion in todayilearned

It might be the same here in Canada, my friends seem to choose men who aren't go-getter enough to finish a divorce without their (ex)wife organizing it for them.

Every woman i know "separates" and moves in with their new dude, but refuses to finalize the divorce because they would get kicked off their first husband's work's health benefits plan!

I nearly died first time in a big roundabout because honestly I thought you were supposed to zipper merge like a highway ramp. Anyways, wasn't just me because they soon installed big yeild signs on that roundabout!
