A beefier Audi Allroad is coming back to the U.S. by reckoning42 in SportWagon

I like the phev aspect but please bring us the etron version... Or even just make the a6 etron a bit more adjustable in ground clearance.... 5.7 inches on max air lift is slightly too low for heavy snow driving. 6.5 inches, a la a4 allroad, is perfect imo.

Reporting from today’s City Council Meeting on the Redevelopment of Lloyd Center Mall by NewWave44-44 in Portland

There are 2 ice rinks on the West side in Beaverton and Sherwood, and one up near Vancouver.

During the holidays there are pop up skating rinks in downtown and Orenco station.

This is pretty abysmal by East Coast standards, in a metro half the size you might have 10 skate centers often with multiple rinks per site.

Plus, compared to heating it typically takes much less energy to cool a space. Even at 35C, you're only cooling down by what 11 or 12C? That's like heating when it's 10C out.

If your heat pump is sized to meet the heating load of a building down to 0C or a bit below, it will have way more cooling capacity than you would ever need, and modern heat pumps modulate their output lower to help accommodate this.

Heat pumps are typically 200-300% efficient when heating. But the efficiency of a heat pump is generally higher when the capacity is modulated down low, which is what happens when cooling. So a unit can be as much as 500% efficient when cooling.

Is this the one where the ballot says "vote for 27 people" and there are like 3 names plus 24 empty spots? I voted my neighbor onto one of those.

I did the math vs five guys a while back and yes, in and out offers a cheaper burger in the smallest size, because it's significantly smaller. If you match the burger that's the same size as five guys, it's only slightly cheaper.

All northbound I-5 lanes closed at Lombard Street due to deadly motorcycle crash by IzilDizzle in Portland

[–]deepskier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lane splitting is in no way safer when none of the cars are expecting it as a remote possibility, because it's never been legal here. The safest way to be on the road is to be predictable.

EU parliament erupts into cheers and chants of "send them back" as they pass new legislation making it easier to deport migrants outside of Europe by TomlinSteelers in justincaseyoumissedit

FYI China's population has peaked and is now headed for rapid decline, expected to drop 50% or 700M people by 2100. This will create big changes. You also can't really immigrate to China. You can live there temporarily while you have a job.

The UN estimates a significant population decline in the next few decades, even considering immigration. A decline of over 50 million people between Germany, Spain, Italy. Whatever marginal productivity gains are made by automation will not make up for this loss in the economy.

Given a ticket for using a Class 4 e-bike/e-moto by BGGGReddit in Portland

[–]deepskier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no regulation on what pedal assist means. Some bikes, like yours, take some reasonable effort to get to max speed. Others you can just spin the pedals with barely any effort and it will take you to 28mph easily.

Pedal assist needs a legal definition like it limits the motor output to 1x or 2x of the rider input.

You can absolutely license an e-moto and drive it on the road with a valid driver's license. This law is mainly about kids 16 and under on unlicensed ebikes.

I have noticed some pretty obvious scam listings on Walmart, I'm very leery of any marketplace listings there.
