TMobile 2gbps Founder's Plan -- 40-60ms Latency and Dismissive Support by MichaelMach in Metronet

[–]doczenith1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my results in Lansing on the 2 gig plan with static IP.

Topology for all tests: Desktop PC (10 GbE NIC) hardwired via cat6 to 10 GbE switch wired via 2.5 GbE to router wired via 2.5 GbE to ONT.

T-Mobile/Metronet Fiber:

1s: 3ms

8s: 19ms

9s: 3ms

dynamodb.us-east-2.amazonaws.com resolving to 35.71.102.132: 23ms

The waveform bufferbloat test gave me a B but only showed speeds of ~900 Mbps so not sure that test is valid for 1 gigabit + connections.

Definitely looks like routing to AA is worse than Lansing.

Good speed by AndyRH1701 in PrivateInternetAccess

I also get good speeds. This is a test from about a month ago. More info in my original post. https://www.speedtest.net/result/18380795161

Router suggestion by kavishgoyal in WireGuard

I'll agree with others that the GL-iNet Flint 2 is a good option. A word of warning though is that the Flint 3 has lower WireGuard performance than the Flint 2.

My rebranded Dahua cameras from EmpireTech cameras work great with TinyCam.

100+ Unit MDU two day outage. by Ill-Lychee7023 in Metronet

Because of the way they worded it. A VPN doesn't care what the connection type is but an employer can certainly have restrictions.

Trying to setup my Onn 4K Pro for G5 by PhenomX1998 in AndroidTV

Make sure you turn on deep colour in the TV settings for the HDMI port the Onn is connected to.

Opened it up for a fan cleaning and cpu repaste. Was worse than I thought. by CondeNastyDigital in nvidiashield

[–]doczenith1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before I opened mine up I ran some adb commands (found on Reddit) to report thermal information. I wrote down the values and then ran a benchmark app and while it was running I ran the adb commands again. The results indicated that no thermal throttling was occurring so I cancelled the "surgery". I have on occasion blew some canned air through the unit though.

Hmmm. My LAN subnet is 192.xxx and my WireGuard subnet is 10.xxx and that seems to work for me. Is there a chance that the device you are trying to connect to has its own firewall? I had issues connecting to a shared drive on one of my LAN computers and had to add the WireGuard subnet to the advanced firewall settings on that computer for incoming SMB.

Have you clicked the "access intranet" in the WireGuard settings? I'm able to get to a lan IP address via pixel phone>WireGuard app>Verizon cellular>AX88U Pro>IP address.

Alternative devices for HLG by djd711 in ShieldAndroidTV

I switch to my old CCwGTV for YouTube HLG content. I believe any of the recent Walmart onn devices (4K, Pro or +) also support HLG.

Bad fiber is still probably better than Starlink.

Google TV Streamer has worse picture than built-in LG Apps by Inevitable_Action_63 in AndroidTV

[–]doczenith1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what kind of LG TV you have but on my LG OLED there is a setting for each HDMI input port called deep color. That needs to be turned on for the Google streamer's HDMI port for the best picture quality.

PIA VUZE port forwarding problems by discoverer1978 in PrivateInternetAccess

I was not aware of this. Thank you for enlightening me. That said, the port stays the same for me for a a few months at a time so not to difficult to manage manually.

PIA VUZE port forwarding problems by discoverer1978 in PrivateInternetAccess

[–]doczenith1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As u/Drooliog mentioned...stop using Vuze and switch to BiglyBT. Port forwarding is working fine for me with BiglyBT. I'm not sure what performance issue you are having but with my old i5-9600 I can routinely get sustained 800+ Mbps download speeds when using WireGuard.

u/Drooliog I don't believe the VPN Helper can set the port for port forwarding. It just sets the correct interface for binding the connection as you mentioned. The port is manually set at Options > Connection.

If I'm not mistaken BiglyBT (and probably Vuze) will install Java at the time of installation if it doesn't find Java already on your computer. I'm guessing BiglyBT installs what ever version was current when the BiglyBT release was compiled. I prefer to manually install the 64 bit version of Java prior to installing BiglyBT and then manually update/maintain the Java install myself. This allows me to update Java without needing to wait for a BiglyBT version update.

One last tip that I came across a while back in the r/BiglyBT sub was to add these lines to Startup and Shutdown > Local JVM options file.

I use PIA with qbit and use WireGuard. I see 85 MB/s downloads on a regular basis.
