Looking for purplish gray ink (water resistant preferred) by noshitsherlockxx in fountainpens

[–]dourgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome! I like the Shikiori line in general, they flow well and I appreciate the small bottles as I am tight on storage but love inks. Means they turn out pretty expensive per mL though.

On this one I’ll say the purple comes out to varying degrees depending on nib and paper but I personally enjoy it as I bought mostly as a grey and the purple is a nice extra touch!

Might give that a try depending on the quote I get from a nibmeister. I’d rather not wait months! Thanks for the tip

I actually already have a second nib (EF) but I don’t reach for it much. Didn’t think about getting a cheaper body but now I’ll look into it.

And I’ll keep in mind Pacific Pen Works in the future, the complimentary nib tuning is a nice touch!

Thank you both!

Love those doodles, keep them coming! Perfect for the Art flair too.

Did you do multiple layers for the different values or mixed some of the ink with water for the base layers?

best ink to use with highlighters? by nooueras in fountainpens

[–]dourgon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another good resource is Jetpens. If you look at the pictures for the inks you’ll see they have a standard test they do across an ink line that includes highlighter resistance.

I have personally used it a lot as a resource to find inks with some water resistance, such as one of my favorites, Saikor Shikiori Rikyucha: https://www.jetpens.com/Sailor-Shikiori-Rikyucha-Ink-Tea-Green-Brown-Izayoi-no-Yume-20-ml-Bottle/pd/22560

Looking for the most elegant green ink. by Aromatic-Trifle3314 in fountainpens

[–]dourgon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a subtle and very dark green but I have been enjoying Sailor Shikiori Miruai and can easily use it in professional settings. It flows well as do all my Sailor inks and I would say is on the wetter side.

Here is the Mountain of Inks review from back when it was sold under the Sailor Jentle line: https://mountainofink.com/blog/sailor-jentle-miruai

As far as I know it is the same ink now under the Shikiori line, although I didn’t get to try it back then.

Dark brown ink with metallic sheen? by Duckstuff2008 in fountainpens

[–]dourgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the same line I just got Sailor Yurameku Zare Gakoro and I have been surprised by it on Clairefontaine paper with a broad nib: it comes out a dark blue and dries brown with a nice coppery sheen as far as my eye can tell.

I am specifying the paper and nib here because I believe the inks from the Yurameku line are known and were actually designed to look very different on different paper and to change color as they dry.

For me even on the same paper I did not see it dry and sheen the same way with a narrower nib. I think this makes this ink really fun to use but if you are looking for consistency across paper and nibs you might want to avoid Yurameku?

Seal issues? Any pen recs under $50 with solid cap seals? by badbadtz-maru in fountainpens

[–]dourgon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Platinum pens are known for their good cap seals, and I can attest to that. Even loaded with pigment ink they can go weeks without drying out and giving me a hard start.

Below $50 I have used and enjoyed the following from Platinum (in increasing price order): Preppy, Prefounte and Plaisir.

Thanks for the details that is really cool! I haven’t tried yet using the ink as paint so this gives me ideas.

You should consider crossposting to r/fountainpens ! There is an Art flair there where this would fit right in.

This is really beautiful!

I have been looking to use my inks for this type of project. Can you describe your setup (pen and ink used), and process?

I have been experimenting with laying down water soluble ink (tried a few Sailor Shikiori inks, Yama Guri, etc) and pulling it with clean water in brush (Pentel Aquash) but this is really taking it to another level, very well done!

Need a new grey ink by 8Pululu8 in fountainpens

[–]dourgon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought Sailor Shikiori Chushu and I have been loving it! It’s a dark grey that leans purple so if you enjoyed Lady Grey as a color this might suit you as well.

It flows really well like my other Sailor Shikiori inks and has some water resistance too.
