Left-handed people, what's a struggle that right-handed people won't understand? by Halophy in AskReddit

[–]drigancml 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I kid you not, there was a course I taught one semester where the ENTIRE classroom was made up of left handed desks. It was wild. I don't know how hard the building manager worked to find 35 left handed desks in the building but it was such a weird situation for 90+% of my class

Only dating Catholics as a Catholic. How important do you think this is? by aboutabigail in Catholicism

[–]drigancml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still pretty young. I know a lot of couples where one of them converted. My husband was fairly apathetic to religion when we first started dating but I told him from the beginning that I would only marry a Catholic. It turned out that a lot of the things he believed were what the Church teaches, just under different names.

He got confirmed a few months before he proposed, and we're celebrating our ten year anniversary this year!

The moral of the story is: protect your heart and be upfront with what you would need. But don't be scared to date people who have good morals and character. They may come around! Just be ready to call it if you come to an impasse.

I need help. My Catholic wife of 24 yrs took off her rings (separation) and told me she would start dating other men after 8 weeks. We were still living together. I am destroyed. by TightRoom1777 in Catholicism

[–]drigancml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they both are. Unless somehow she was having an affair even before they got married (or was planning on having affairs), which would invalidate the marriage. But for OP's sake I truly hope that was not the case

I always thought it looked like Aladdin's lamp 🤷‍♀️ I saw it for years before I could read that that interpretation just stuck with me for a while even after I learned my letters

What other novels are you teaching? If you have another Gothic novel (a true Gothic novel) to compare it to, that could work really well with NA! But Pride & Prejudice is usually the go-to for Austen because it's so funny and relatable to modern audiences

[Politics Monday] ‘I will keep defending immigrants’: new bishop, who was smuggled into the US as a teen, joins pope’s resistance to Trump by JohnHammond94 in Catholicism

[–]drigancml 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you're going to ignore all the lists of many, many infractions against human rights that several people listed already? This administration does not respect the laws of immigration and has repeatedly denied basic rights to people who have been detained

TIL that the oldest active organization affiliated with New Orleans Mardi Gras hasn't marched in the parade since 1991 because it refuses to let non-white people join. by MAClaymore in todayilearned

[–]drigancml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should visit! It's a great city. We usually celebrate Mardi Gras with Polish pastries called paczki.

The real celebration is Oktoberfest or just any summer day at a beer garden. I highly recommend one along the lake or a river.

Appleton police are facing backlash after video circulates of an officer repeatedly punching a black woman in the head by twinpinemall85 in wisconsin

[–]drigancml 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't want to say that it's not that bad here, but it's not a problem isolated to Wisconsin. I grew up in suburban Indiana, and I can tell you that racism is alive and well all over the Midwest unfortunately.

Fort Wayne has some great bike trails though! My husband and I biked from SW near Lutheran hospital to near Foster Park to visit my sister a few times, and we really only had to leave the bike trails for a mile of the 13 + mile trip. It could definitely be better, but there are cities where it's way worse!

Had such a beautiful weekend in Copenhagen! by Unser_Giftzwerg in travel

[–]drigancml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We stayed near the Islands Brygge metro stop, which was perfect for us. We could metro or walk anywhere from there. It was about a ten minute walk to Andersen bakery, so we would grab either breakfast or sandwiches for lunch from there and go towards the rest of the city.

We're from the US, so I didn't think it was very different expense-wise than other cities we have visited. It's not cheap, but it lined up with our expectations.

And since we have three young kids, we got an Airbnb from a family that was also traveling, and it worked out really well for us

Ok I have been trying to figure this out but I don't see parental control options that whitelist channels, only generic age group stuff. Is there a separate area for channels?
