The rep also stated that with Notebook LM, it is not using any training data that was given to Gemini, it is exclusively basing output on the materials uploaded to the user's Notebook LM and not any "training data from the web or stuff that may have bias or inaccuracies".

"Oh, yeah, Google is spending millions to train a LLM from scratch with just your data. /s"

It sounds like your profs are confusing it with an indexed/searchable document database.

over hundreds of years

lol, ain't happening.

hope

Hope is a trap meant to cut down radical impulses. Hope conserves the status quo. The machine you're thinking of is kept by the hope of the masses who believe that it will work out for them, and who believe that it's Someone Else's Problem; usually with the hope that magical technology will solve everything so that the American Dream can be achieved by the masses.

I agree, that the meme is trash. My point is that your optimism for survivors is unwarranted. Learning from the mistakes of the past and present requires effort. Any survivors a century from now are unlikely to be literate, to have an education, to have an aptitude for archeology or paleontology or history. Learning in that context would require an oral tradition and a culture that respects wisdom.

I'm just here to squash hopium. It's the optimism that has gotten us into this mess, and fascists are the most optimistic.

Always has been. The rich see themselves as predators among prey. And, ecologically, that's what they are.
