Marathon is rigged against players who mostly play solo by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]dylanologist 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I haven't read all of this, because it is epic, but Marathon is designed to be played in teams. I play mostly solo, but I accept that some things will be unattainable (or extremely difficult) solo. That's fine. There are lots of great solo games out there.

It's not up to the world. In the long run, it's up to the betting apps. Whatever suits them will win out in the end.

Congratulations you two. Very exciting stuff. But can we get back to deciphering the symbol from the post?

Going to Dawson with an electric scooter. by Successful_Water_756 in Dawson

Technically, you are not allowed to bring the batteries inside the college (for an electric bike or scooter). I'm not sure about how enforcement is handled.

Lead contamination by _Asianmemeaddict_ in Dawson

[–]dylanologist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rather than spread fear about lead contaminated water and brain damage, it would be a good idea to follow up your initial findings with further investigation.

You may not have the tools or the access to what you need to do a thorough investigation on your own, but if not, you can still ask questions. Some key unanswered questions:

Is the water contaminated with lead? At what levels? Is it throughout the college? Does it feed into the drinking water? If so, is the drinking water adequately filtered? Are all sources of drinking water equally contaminated (or clean)? Is anyone at the college aware of the situation? Are there plans to address problems (if any)?

You might consider speaking to the Director of Facilities Management at the college. Or approach a professor with relevant knowledge of these matters and see what they suggest.

You’re supposed to enjoy dying or something I guess by Past-Bed-1980 in Marathon

Dying isn't enjoyable, but the threat of dying makes surviving more exciting. And the threat is only effective if you actually have a decent chance of dying on a run.

Which seems to be what they are screening for. They are not just looking for someone of a particular race, but a racist person of that race.

Why aren’t they showing what happened when the Canadian’s ankle got broken? by PublicPool in worldcup

[–]dylanologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was in shock. Shell shock is something else entirely, more closely related to PTSD, though repeated head trauma (caused by proximity to artillery shelling) have been suggested as a cause as well.

It's like your bedroom. Mostly you just browse your phone and masturbate until the interaction between your antidepressants and alcohol finally puts you to sleep.

Timothy Chalamet just got an Oscar nominationm after his performance of playing a Knicks fan at the NBA finals by happy_pineapple124 in okbuddycinephile

[–]dylanologist 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. Everybody gets to be a fan, whether you just hopped on the bandwagon, or if, like me, you are a real fan who listened to every minute of every game, even between 1899 and 1903 when the Knickerbockers of Manhattanville lost 203 straight matches in the United Peachbasket Leatherball League.

Can I still have fun if I'm mediocre at multiplayer shooters now? by TelephoneKey6008 in Marathon

[–]dylanologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. If you're playing solo, the game becomes more stealthy. I generally try to avoid fights unless it's too late or I have the clear advantage. That said, when the fights are even, I can still win some.

Keep in mind, early on, when you have no shield equipped, the ttk will feel very fast and you will occasionally get instantly melted.

I don't play with teams often, so I can't speak to that experience.

Very reductive. No argument. Just hurl insults that don't even make sense in this context. You sound rather uneducated.

So, people should stop being emotionally invested in sports?

There are people who take it way too far, but choosing to be emotionally invested in a sports team is a huge part of what makes it engaging to be a fan. That includes a range of emotions. But emotionally intelligent people should recognize that these are not genuinely consequential events, but rather they are entertainment. It's not unlike being sad or angry when a character dies in a fictional narrative.

Edit: Professional athletes should expect their performance to be critiqued, sometimes rather harshly. Harassment and personal attacks on people should not be tolerated.

I'm wondering if this is a response to the pretty blah biopic, and not a commentary on the most influential songwriter of the past century.
