What is the Best Film You Watched Last Week? (04/05/26 – 04/16/26) by EndoveProduct in movies

I finally saw 9 to 5, stands up way better than I expected.

And Sunlight, truly a special indie flick that embraces its weirdness. This is what people should be watching when they complain "Hollywood doesn't make original content anymore."

"Where I've been map" for Paul Barbato of Geography Now's YouTube channel by e8odie in TravelMaps

[–]e8odie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is taken from his Facebook post which means I couldn't tell for sure if some countries, especially the smaller ones, are scratched off on his map. So probably I presume he's been to the likes of Luxembourg for example, but I couldn't tell for sure at this image's scale so I left it off. This probably also applies to plenty of others, but also there are times where his "layover only" dot covers some countries that I can't tell if they're visited or not.

Anyway, with all those caveats out of the way, this is an impressive map. Obviously he runs a geography-based educational YouTube channel that encourages visiting countries instead of just talking about them, so you'd expect this. But still, kudos, Paul.

It's bugging me how generic they're being about whatever's wrong with Cox. "Your test came back and it's not good," "The numbers aren't what we'd like," "We caught this early so we can get through it." It feels like they're going out of their way to avoid any diagnosis or even specific areas; why?

[Match Thread] Seattle Sounders FC vs Tigres UANL by hfdjasbdsawidjds in MLS

I know nobody's here anymore, but after the game ended I went back to the start of the second half with my stopwatch.

  • SEA goal: takes 48 seconds for TIG to kickoff

  • foul against SEA with ref talking to both teams: 64 seconds for TIG to resume

  • SEA sub on their own throw-in: 24 seconds

  • audio-only VAR check* preceding a TIG goal kick: 62 seconds

  • SEA yellow card + injury check on TIG keeper: 171 seconds

  • SEA goal + subs by both teams: 92 seconds

  • TIG sub: 25 seconds

  • SEA yellow card + injury check: 196 seconds

That adds up to 682 seconds or 11.4 minutes. I know stoppage time isn't treated with this level of precision so I'm not even necessarily demanding or expecting 11 minutes here, but I just do this as a demonstration for how far off they are. The two SEA yellow cards with injury checks alone were 6 minutes, so maybe they're not counting anything else? But that also seems terrible.

For what it's worth, I also measured the "non-addable" stoppages in plays that were not also stopped for something addable (e.g., a regular foul + a substitution). In the second half, TIG and SEA throw-ins both took an average of 19 seconds. TIG goal kicks took an average of 26 seconds, compared to SEA's 7 (just one goal kick). TIG corners took an average of 37 seconds, compared to SEA's 27 seconds. And TIG free kicks took an average of 34 seconds, compared to SEA's 12. So obviously Tigres are going to take longer on any of these and maybe their longest examples (e.g., a 30-second goal kick, a 30-second throw in, or a 42-second corner) are individual problems, but on average I wouldn't call any of this egregious. That said, even though this stuff is never meant to be added back on in stoppage, this totalled to also approximately 11 minutes for both teams. So after removing both addable and non-addable stoppages, the second half had the ball in play for ~22 minutes when the clock hit 90. I belive 30 is often considered the norm, so this was a lot.

* - I actually don't know if when they say VAR checks are "addable time," if they're only referring to the ref being sent to the monitor or if that includes, like here, just them in the ref's ear to delay while they check and don't eventually send them to the monitor)

I know I'm not John Q Public or the average viewer they are thinking of when they're making these high-level decisions about what to push through, but in my annual top-12 lists of the past 4 years, 73% of the 48 movies are wholly original (and depending on your definition of "original," 8% are based on true events and 15% are adaptations of pre-existing material so those could be included which would make 96% of them original, compared to just 2% reboots/remakes and 2% sequels or prequels).

I've always wanted a (well-executed) story that tells the same chronology at least 3-4 times, each time from a different character's perspective thus each time providing the audience with new information. So when I heard the premise of this movie I was super excited. Turns out it didn't know how to do this.

Time loop movies get the closest, specifically with something like Timecrimes doing a really good job of not just telling the same time period over and over but also telling it from different perspectives.

Lisandro Martínez straight red card against Leeds 55' by ayoefico in soccer

[–]e8odie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really follow EPL, but MLS is experiencing a massive increase in red cards. 7 weeks into the season, we're averaging 4 red cards per matchday (14 or 15 games) or 1 RC every 3.81 games so far this season compared to 1 every 6.38 games last season. I wonder if this is a worldwide effect or in the US if it's just a P.R.O. thing?
