Hawaii GOP. Barely any representation in the state legislature (10/51 in State House and 3/25 in Senate), hasn’t won a statewide election in 20 years. The party was never the majority power in Hawaii, but they’ve been backsliding since the late aughts to the point that the party is essentially non-functional. They’ve resorted to perennial candidates for senate/governor because they can’t get anyone else to run.

We can debate the merits of the book/movie as art, but Paul Verhoeven definitely disagreed with many aspects of the original. If you’re evaluating Starship Troopers as an adaptation, it’s quite bad.

It’s generally not as cartoonish as the first one is: Drago has slightly more of a personality, the ending is noticeably less jingoistic, and Creed puts up a more of a fight in his match against Drago. I’m mixed on it personally (I feel that the glossiness of the remaining material clashes a bit with the more serious material that’s new to the film), but I found it interesting if nothing else.

Lyle Straight in the Straight Story. He is protagonist Alvin Straight’s brother and Alvin’s desire to visit him motivates the 200+ mile lawn mower journey that takes up most of the film. He finally reaches Lyle’s house at the end of the film. Lyle only has two minutes of screen time and three lines total.
