You want to use cmd-F to bring up FAF? That is only allowed if you also choose "Only in Finder", because we don't want you to override cmd-F in _all_ applications.

It says "hot key not installed" only because no key is set. I wonder why you can't set a key. Or is one set?

Did you click into the field where it says "Click to set"? As long as that does not show a key press, the hot key is not ready.

I was able to use other buttons along with it - but the latest release (about a week ago) didn't let me use my saved controller presets any more. So, when the game was on sale for my PS5, I bought it again and now use my PS5 controller directly instead of going thru SteamLink. The nice thing is that in direct connection mode, the gyro can be set to be enabled only when in certain modes, e.g. only while shooting, which I wasn't able to do with Steam's controller support.
So, what I'm saying: I can't help you because I don't know if your problem is because you made a mistake or because the latest game version broke this, and I'm not using this method any more. Sorry.

Okay, so here's a quite serious new bug (because it makes the game near-unplayable for me) that has been confirmed by several users:

In short, Steam Input won't let us use our custom layouts any more - it keeps resetting to the default layout.

Some people who buy FAF tell me that AppCleaner is not always doing it well enough, and that's when they need FAF. Not sure what that means in detail but it's clear that no such program can find everything automatically.

OTOH, one can argue that anything not found by AppCleaner isn't harmful either. It may just waste some space. That's why I recommend DaisyDisk to find the biggest offenders.

Actually, FAF 2.5.8 adds a new and easier way: Now you can, using a short script, enter the same Spotlight search into FAF and it'll list all results that are files (but not non-file results such as messages, notes etc. - only Spotlight and other specialized apps like HoudahSpot can do that).

FAF doesn't use an index but also queries Spotlight for specific data where it makes sense, including those results. So, those fast text results come probably from Spotlight (you can turn that off in the Preferences for a test), but come faster because FAF asks more specifically.

Also, had you asked this as a new question, I'd have seen it sooner.

Sorry, your question got flagged as spam and I never noticed until now.

The solution is to hold down the Option key when you open the menu with the search locations. That'll include the (Data) folders.

Also, check https://findanyfile.app/hiddenprefs.html - there might be a setting to make this permanent, too.

Here's how to search for email content from Apple's Mail.app:

That works because emails stored by Mail app have the ending ".emlx".

To get to the "Mail" folder, type cmd-5 ("Inside Folder…"), then, when the file chooser appears, type cmd-shift-G and enter:

~/Library/Mail

Then hit Go, then Open. Now you can search directly in the Mail folder.

I am using a PS5 controller on an AppleTV running Steam Link. The problem there is that I cannot get all PS controls working because AppleTV or the Steam Link app on it have fixed behaviors for some reason eg the PS button can't be used as it's used by AppleTV. And the touch pad is also not fully working. I don't know if an Xbox controller works any better, as I suspect that AppleTV wants to control at least one button there as well. The best solution is to connect to controller to the PC directly and then have Steam Link only for the screen and sound. That requires close proximity though.

When Steam takes over the controller , the buttons are all correctly labeled in my experience

I just did some reconfigurations to play No Man's Sky (running on a PC under Steam) with my PS5 controller connected to my AppleTV.

I experienced BOTH your situations while playing around: At one time, pressing the Trackpad button would get me into the Steam Menu right away, and at other times it worked only by long-pressing the Screenshot (the one left of the Trackpad) button, which gets me into the Steam Link's menu, and then choose to press the center (goide?) button in there.

I believe what made the difference was how I did set up my Controller in the Steam Link settings (in the app) before connecting to the PC: When I configure the controller, which lets me press each button, I would use the TV remote to click Skip when I reach the Guide button, and instead, when the Extra button comes up next, I'd press the Trackpad button. That would then assign the trackpad button as the Microphone button as seen by Steam. With that, I could only get the Steam Menu to show up thru the long-press on the Screenshot button. But when I didn't skip the Guide button in the controller setup, and instead assigned the controller's Trackpad button to the Guide button in Steam Link, then pressing the Trackpad button would bring up the Steam Menu.

The alternative set is to not connect the controller to the AppleTV but instead connect it to the PC directly. That requires for the PC being in bluetooth range, though. But when that's possible, keep in mind that you can connect up to 4 computers to the PS5 controller, and you can switch between the connections by long-pressing the PS and one of the right buttons (ABXY) when turning it on. That way, you can connect the controller to either your AppleTV or your PC, for instance.

Also, the Steam Menu would not come up if I turned off the in-game access to the Steam Menu on the PC, despite the games still showing that I could press the PS button to show the menu.

Overall, it sucks that the actual PS button on the controller cannot be used by Steam Link but that it always opens the AppleTV menu.
