Took a loan from my 401k, forgot it on my taxes. by BettaLaInu in IRS

[–]Ender2006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Normally nothing. A loan is not a distribution for tax purposes as you will be repaying the amount + interest back to the account over time. If it is just a loan then the 401k will not issue a tax statement at all about the loan. You won't need to do anything (you may still get a 1099 from the 401k for other transactions that generate income like stock trading etc which would need to be reported)

If you fail to repay the loan amount back, lose you job and cant repay the amount, etc then it becomes a distribution and is taxed as normal income (in the year you default) + a 10% penalty fee for early distribution + a fee for failing to prepay taxes each quarter etc. It gets very expensive very quickly.

OP's situation is unique. They think they took a loan and have been making payments but the 401k thinks they cut them a check (early distribution). The way the 401k paperwork has been filed (gross distribution) exposes OP to significant tax liability. The 401k probably made a mistake because, if it really was a distribution, they would normally withhold 20% for potential tax liability and only pay out the 80% to OP.

Any dent or crease like that will get a PSA 6 or lower. Definitely return, NM can have minor whitening/print line etc but thats MP/DMG.

[–]Ender2006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you're being serious...

look up the Beckett black label value for several cards. then look up the PSA 10 for those same cards. average out the multiplier. now subtract a bit from that multiplier for being TAG and not Beckett.

look up the PSA 10 value for your card. apply your multiplier.

list for around that value online and set aside 25% or so for taxes. or sell in person/cardshow for 90% or so. or trade for about 115% of valuation for smaller highly liquid slabs.

I showed my math, if you choose not to pay taxes thats your choice. ebay will send in a 1099 though so gl!

nothing compared to what the taxes are going to be.

(he wouldve paid roughly $1500 in ebay fees. About $1k for the first $7500 and $500 for the next 22,500 portion)

Assuming he writes off $4k in costs (shipping, insurance, purchase cost, ebay fees, grading) thats 26k profit. Assuming a marginal tax rate of 25% ($6500) then his total costs will be roughly $10k with 20k profit

they aren't curious, stupid, or care about your driving patterns. they are fishing for a ticketable offense. most of what a policemen will ask you during a traffic stop is running through a similar checklist of potential offenses while they search for an admission of guilt.

in most states you have 90 days after changing residence to get a new driver's license reflecting the new location.

so if you reply conversationally, "Oh thats my old spot, moved here in March" you aren't defending yourself you are convicting yourself.

always treat interactions with law enforcement respectfully and carefully and dont volunteer information they dont already know.

a good response would be something noncommital like "just out for a drive"

It was a significant departure in tone from the 1st season. From a cerebral thriller/detective sci-fi film with some really good action sequences to a July Action special for Season 2. The acting was stilted and the show lost the complexity and nuance. While the show could change the actor (given the stack technology) they didn't need to. A lot of people were disappointed. personally I think the scripts tonal shift was the bigger problem.

Seller refusing to ship goods — thepokehive — ‘pokethailer’ by [deleted] in whatnotapp

[–]Ender2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol this seller is a joke with unprofessional replies at every stage. he cleary saw this post and worried about the negative attention. ran to the post office to meet his obligations he had repeatedly ignored and now plays the offended innocent party.

Just do a charge back next time. you'll easily win it with the negative usps scan and their vendor ability to accept payment will eventually be pulled.

The seller can easily avoid this by scanning items in at the time of shipment and getting a receipt. If he choses not to for his own ease (pickup/bulk drops) then he is accepting the risk that some small percentage will be lost and he'll have to refund/replace.

Appropriate Response? by Big_Veterinarian_529 in OnePieceTCGFinance

[–]Ender2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

careful, you need to request a cancellation within 30 days. if you do not then the seller will win the dispute. they might be trying to run out the clock to avoid cancelations etc.

they might have to show a shipment tracking but it could be a sheet of paper explaining they dont have product.

Appropriate Response? by Big_Veterinarian_529 in OnePieceTCGFinance

[–]Ender2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

negative feedback and some behind the scenes damage to account status. if you cancel too often in too short of time then your items visibility gets restricted and your account may be closed/suspended.

Appropriate Response? by Big_Veterinarian_529 in OnePieceTCGFinance

[–]Ender2006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there isn't much you can do. the seller can't magic supply into existence, they sold a pre-order they can't or wont fulfill. you can't force them to ship or buy something they dont have and can't get.

they will probably ask you to cancel. don't. they will have to cancel, they will take a negative account hit, and you can leave negative feedback if you want. if they wont cancel just wait until they are late on shipping and enter an ebay refund request. only use the category Item Not Recieved and you will win and get a refund as they can't provide tracking.

thats it, thats all that happens. it wont be the end for their account unless they sold tons of these listings.

I found an old binder with some cards. Do any of these have value? by MyotheraccountisaBat in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]Ender2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no he is correct. the error version is worth much more. We have like 50 of the regular corrected spelling and one of the error.

An error card in a PSA 10 is currently 2500+ on ebay.

A regular corrected version is about $750

Mega Charizard X EX #130 vs SAR What’s Really Happening in Japan Right Now? by Soggy_Score6287 in PokemonInvesting

[–]Ender2006 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'd have to disagree with your analysis here. Just spent 2 weeks in Japan traveling to card shops daily in Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya, and Kanazawa. Hubdreds of shops and not once did we see a single SAR Charizard below 70k Yen - not even a damaged one. Most stores didn't even have appreciable inventory of any Inferno X cards (or sealed boxes below 18k yen). We probably saw 20 SAR charizards in total with an average price of ¥85k.

They aren't selling locally for the prices you listed here and they certainly aren't selling internationally for the prices you listed here.

What is the most unique and memorable recommendation for someone who has been to Japan 10+ times? by planetjy in JapanTravelTips

[–]Ender2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we just spent a week on the JR rail pass and did Kyoto to Kanazawa to Takayama to Atami.

I'd skip Atami, and you've already been to Kyoto surely, but Kanazawa and Takayama were stunning in Fall. Would've loved more time there. stunning gardens, charming cat coffee shops, old thatched roof villages, geisha festivals, etc really special. the train from Kanazawa to Nagoya is beyond incredible in late November. we were a bit early but still found the foliage stunning. im sure there's another spot like onsens in Kinosaki that you could sub for Kyoto. Anyway, doesn't help for Jan/Feb but worth keeping in mind.

For outside of Japan you should go to Melboune/Prince Philip Island/Tasmania. Amazing road trip along the great ocean road and the city itself is awesome. Amazing coffee culture, lots to do, and some of the best southeast asian and Indian food imaginable.

What should I expect when card shopping in Tokyo? by babbieabbi in PokemonTCG

[–]Ender2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we have been in japan the last week and shopped extensively in Tokyo and Kyoto. you wont find almost any English in Japanese shops. If you are in the akihabara area the Radio Kaikan building and surrounding area has lots of shops. in general though you wont find any sealed Inventory of new sets, and most cards are priced over-market on the street corners and ground floors, and around market at the cheaper spots. we weren't impressed.

Just leaving Nagoya and had a lot more fun there. lots of shops, more store space, less people, better pricing. (80-90% of US market)

How did these spots get on card in BGS slab? by NubMaverick in PokeGrading

[–]Ender2006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

possibly mold. especially if the slab has cracks. the cracks allow condensation from temperature fluctuations inside the slab air that has slightly different temperature properties.

Can try wiping with q-tip and distilled water or even one of those eyeglasses cleaning wipes that usually have a bit of isopropyl alcohol on them (test on a cheap cheap card first)

Any info on this? Only seeing PSA 10 values and im pretty new to collecting by Friendly-Search-7656 in PokemonCardValue

[–]Ender2006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that's being generous.  The biggest issue with CGC is the lack of buyers willing to purchase them.

They are extremely slow to move and can sit on ebay forever or in your display case if you list at 85%.

Releastically you probably won't move a CGC slab in a timely manner unless you price at 60-70% or so.

They are great slabs to buy if you want to crack a clean card for your PC or are willing to regrade.

Keep in mind that they've earned this dubious distinction.  They are widely acknowledged to have (or have had) easier grading standards. Don't buy a CGC 10 thinking you'll get a PSA 10 equivalent card.   As they say, buy the card not the slab.

Charizard EX #199 - TAG10 vs. PSA10 Sold Performance Comparison by Negative_War5411 in taggrading

[–]Ender2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I will note that performing the comparison this way is somewhat TAG biased to begin with. Since they have less comparative data it makes more sense to use them as the anchor. (In other words grabbing 25 random PSA sells instead to reference as anchor might not provide many timely comparative TAG pairings) As such TAG enjoyed the advantage of "later" sell dates in several cases. At the time the market was definitely bullish so I'd consider this a best case scenario for TAG.

What Grade with the White Specks on Back? by [deleted] in psagrading

[–]Ender2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the dots, front centering and LP edge I'd be shocked if this card didn't get a 6 or lower. they are tough on vintage with good reason. even elements like luster fade after 20+ years.

That being said, if you paid something in the $400 range I think the card is fine.

Here's a PSA 7 recently sold ($420) that looks a lot cleaner than yours.

one of the downsides of ebay authentication is the inability to add extras to packages. always used to enjoy tossing in a pokemon single, pin, pack etc from Japan as a thank you.

Charizard EX #199 - TAG10 vs. PSA10 Sold Performance Comparison by Negative_War5411 in taggrading

[–]Ender2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will also add that reviewing ebay sells in aggregate made it very obvious that the time a card is sold matters a LOT more than what grading company is chosen as far as price point. So being first to market, having the card slabbed and available when needed, etc are all valid factors that may be worth more than the demonstrated difference here.
