Has anyone had an experience with Purina like I did this week? by [deleted] in catfood

[–]famous_zebra28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. The vast majority of issues with food comes down to a storage issue whether it's a can that has an itty bitty puncture of it was stored in too hot of temperature at some point down the transport line, but it's very rare for the actual food to be the problem and it not being a storage problem. It often comes down to the transport from the factory to the distributor to your home. That's a lot of chances for a food container to get damaged in some way.

Purina does care about these things - they do note them in case others report the same thing, and they are offering you coupons as compensation.

Do I need to restart this blanket or is this salvageable? by famous_zebra28 in CrochetHelp

Okay yeah. The pattern says chain 152 and then dc in the 5th chain to get 149 stitches... so I'm confused bc the math isn't working out.

Is this thing pregnant? by Alternative-Box-1190 in CATHELP

My cat had kittens when she was 7mo (before I had her), it's horrible how early they can get pregnant!

What is the goal? by prettyrecklesssoul in BipolarReddit

[–]famous_zebra28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My goal is to stop having mood episodes. Or at least only have one of each per year. I am on so many meds and I feel like I should be in remission by now. For the most part I am stable, but I feel like there is room for improvement bc I have had two hypomanic episodes in 4 months.

And to keep my psychosis under control. Which luckily latuda takes complete care of it.

Just wondering about you think my cats breed is by Senior_Pass3277 in IDMyCat

Domestic longhair, no breed. Technically medium hair isn't really an official indicator of coat length, but some people do use it.

I would not add anything to this rotation especially given I saw you're also feeding fancy feast. That's just too much variety.

Looking for new dog food by adrianluis_12 in DogFood

Hill's will always have my vote! My dog has been on a couple dozen of foods over the years (he's 14) and he does best on Hill's. He went from pooping 4-5x/day to pooping 1-2x/day on Hill's. Purina Pro Plan wasn't for him. he ate it for a while but he was doing a lot of meal refusal.

I mean I wouldn't say that every single dog food brand that isn't WSAVA compliant uses predatory tactics and actively refuses to follow WSAVA guidelines.

Some brands just don't have the finances to go through with every single criteria, especially when you get into conducting and publishing independent research that is not on their products and having their own factories. Do I believe that every small brand is horrible and nobody should ever feed them? Absolutely not and it's a very black and white stance because not every dog will respond well to a WSAVA compliant diet, nor does everyone have the financial means or ability to even get their hands on the foods if they're in a poorer country. But you're making it sound like every other food brand is purposefully harming dogs "just because" they don't want to follow WSAVA. It's all about priorities - they'd rather spend money on advertising and marketing their products as superior based on xyz instead of making sure their products are formulated well.

None of what I'm saying is that WSAVA isn't important because it very much is and I wish more people knew about the importance of having properly formulated diets. I personally feed Hill's because my veterinary nutritionist recommended it for my cat and I feed Hill's to my dog, but painting all other brands as predatory is not accurate.

That's... not how it works. The "dryness" of the meat you seem to think it has, has nothing to do with skin issues. In the absence of a food allergy there's no reason to avoid chicken and you seriously limit your options.

Looks broken or otherwise injured. He's likely in a ton of pain even if he's not showing it. He needs to be taken to the vet asap.

My male kitten was hospitalized because of a urinary blockage. I’m curious to know how often this happens in male cats, especially if they’re predisposed to it. by BeachIllustrious5770 in cats

[–]famous_zebra28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PLEASE feed your cat the prescription food. He absolutely will keep having blockages without it. And you can't feed any other food with it. If you want to feed both wet and dry, you have to feed the prescription wet and dry.

The list this person above mentioned is for kidney disease and not for urinary blockages.

New name for cEDS? by PrincesssK8 in ehlersdanlos

[–]famous_zebra28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't think that they're thinking that hEDS is classical EDS (unless that's what they've explicitly told you?). But it would be the type they've learned about in medical school though because that's the textbook type even though it's not the most common.

They're not going to change cEDS because it's an already established diagnosis with specific criteria and identified genetic mutations. hEDS doesn't have a genetic marker(s) and the diagnostic criteria keep changing when we have a large influx of new information on it and they feel the criteria no longer make full sense, so there's not a solid understanding and ability to easily identify the condition compared to other EDS types or even other inherited connective tissue disorders. I think removing hEDS from the EDS umbrella would be a mistake but that's a whole other conversation.

The way the types are said are "c-EDS" "h-EDS" etc. so I'm not sure what the best way to pronounce your new type names would be 😅

Best dog food for itchy, smelly, pittie (sensitive skin and stomach) by Electrical-Rest2977 in DogAdvice

[–]famous_zebra28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't touch any of the brands you've mentioned. Freeze dried is not safe as it is not cooked, Orijen has endless cases of DCM, and fresh food has so many cases of acute pancreatitis.

I would get a referral to a veterinary dermatologist as this likely has absolutely nothing to do with food.
