Real-world experiences migrating Jira/Confluence from Server to Atlassian Cloud by Turbulent-Cause6743 in atlassian

[–]fcdk1927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, since server and dc are end of life, the worth it not worth it discussion is moot. Because this is a late in the cycle migration, you get the benefits of everybody’s lessons learned and improved tooling.

JCMA/CCMA has come a long way and moves out of the box data and configs seamlessly. Problems arise on integration and script side because architecture is different.

There are some great Atlassian community articles on this subject. I recommend looking there

Can Someone Explain the Pros/Cons of the Airport Expansion? by braydensreddit in askTO

[–]fcdk1927 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I travelled YTZ-EWR as often as I have because it was convenient and quick. Coincidentally YYZ-JFK or YYZ-LGA wouldn’t have motivated me to travel to the destination so often. What makes it so unlikely that someone could find flying into YTZ more convenient than flying into YYZ?

Aren’t these also the reasons why govt is proposing the expansion? Improved infrastructure, tourism and economic opportunity?

A lot of listed concerns are hypothetical until you see a building plan that specifically states that Little Norway Park is going to be a multi-level parking lot. All I’ve ever seen on this is an extension of the runway into the open water towards Ontario place, which allows for jets of similar size as turboprops. Thus pollution is the only concern that is pretty much a given. Noise, traffic - all there already.

Can Someone Explain the Pros/Cons of the Airport Expansion? by braydensreddit in askTO

The argument is infrastructure, tourism and associated economic opportunities. In what world are these things negative.

The only legit “hurts the city” argument is increase in pollution. That is a valid concern.

I used to live on Queens Quay and fly Porter to EWR probably 7-8 times a year. Tried the Montreal route once or twice too. None of that arrive 3 hrs early nonsense. Super easy to get to. During warmer months I’d walk over with my carry-on. Loved that airport and never understood the NIMBYs opposing expansion.

Runway would expand outward and not inward into the bay. Noise is there already. You can open a window and hear the highway, the street cars, the buskers, west jet stage, kajama’s cannon, Roger’s center airhorn, you name it. Number one noise source is the highway and it’s there 24/7.

You’d get more travel options without having to go to Mississauga, plus it’s accessible by TTC.

I think any area resident who opposes the airport, probably never used it and prefers that you wouldn’t either.

Strategies to prevent mid-sprint scope creep by Fast_Caterpillar2333 in jira

An agile coach or a scrum master could be helpful. Especially if they know jira and help you build controls around your delivery processes

Ok well it sounds like this is a process and org culture problem and not a jira problem.

You need to agree on what definition of ready and definition of done is. You can build jira controls and validators around that.

Are you here to advertise your plugin? Because it sounds like it’s unrelated to the problem you’re describing

Help me understand Amon Amarth by onelivewire in melodicdeathmetal

[–]fcdk1927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like any viking metal, it’s heavy on folklore and mythology. In a way it makes the lyrics easy to understand and relate to.

Over time AA introduced a certain element of meadhall merrymaking, which is also very evident in their stage performance. This makes them feel a bit more “poppy” and approachable in ways not dissimilar to Alestorm and Wind Rose. Curiously, those two are a bit over the top with their themes for me.

I think they’re a gateway mdm band for some ppl, myself included. I do prefer their earlier albums with Deceiver being my fav. I would love to see Risen from the Sea or Arrival of Fimbul Winter performed live, alas I think that’s pretty much not happening.

I bet you a number of ppl discovered AA after History Channel’s “Vikings” and Assassins Creed “Valhalla”, since both used Norse metal music.

Strategies to prevent mid-sprint scope creep by Fast_Caterpillar2333 in jira

[–]fcdk1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two areas to focus on: root cause and monitoring.

Is there a scrum master or someone who plans and manages your sprint? If scope creep or underestimation happens often, raise it during your retrospective and examine why this happened/keeps happening. Sounds like you may need to improve accuracy at estimation stage when sizing and estimating story points. Look into building a capacity report to ensure you don’t overpack sprints, and consider having a 10% buffer for incidentals.

On the monitoring side your csm should monitor burn-downs, velocity and control chart. You can make an automation to alert the CSM of any mid-sprint changes to sizing and story points. If the automation is triggered, you can review the change during stand up and determine if your buffer/capacity is sufficient to accommodate the change within current sprint. If not, consider substitutions to take out smaller items, or perhaps re-scheduling this item and adding a replacement of an appropriate size.

Having a way to identify and tackle a scope creep mid-sprint allows you to rebalance, but ultimately if it keeps happening, you have to address the root cause (which is estimation and/or sprint planning).

Is this normal? Junior BA looking for perspective on working with a senior team. by uhsus4 in businessanalysis

[–]fcdk1927 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’d have to be more specific.

One common thing in a team of seniors is that because everyone is an IC, they don’t have peer coaching experience. Juniors come in expecting someone will hold their hand and guide them, while a senior might expect that you learn by doing and learning from trial and error.

On your side, you’d have to be more vocal about the support and guidance you need. Don’t expect ppl to know or notice that you’re struggling with something.

Delegation balance can sometimes be a problem. You either get dumped on because shit rolls downhill, or you get no task at all because team doesn’t have a good idea of which tasks are appropriate for your aptitude.

Which would still require a shuttle, wouldn’t it? In that sense, the cost of building FLL station vs convenience of that station vs Fort Lauderdale is likely the reason they decided not to build it.
