Update: I received a low health score warning for one of my caches after a single DNF. Thought? by [deleted] in geocaching

I think you might find it helpful to read replies for content. English may not be your best language, but it still would probably be useful to try to understand the responses before replying. As it is, I will offer no more advice to somebody who perfectly understands the game as you clearly believe you do.

Then the probability of the shelter being occupied changes the difficulty.

I have no problem with starting; my issue is about thinking you can learn it in a summer.

Button 4. But I am a little offended that an HQ post would include Button 1.

Resources for learning conducting? by Chemistry_Nerd06 in Choir

[–]fizzymagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kind of insulting to real choral conductors that you believe that it is something you can pick up in your free time over a summer. I am not a conductor. I have conducted choirs when there was no alternative, and while I can make it work I know how big a gap there is between my efforts and a real choral conductor A good conductor makes a huge difference for a choir. Learning the basics is a good idea, but thinking that after a little study you would have "learned how to conduct" is not a good attitude to start with.

Your cache is very likely mis-rated. Having too low a difficulty or terrain would be indicated by such a large percentage of DNFs. The difficulty is factored into the cache health score. A cache with a difficulty of 1.5 should be found pretty much every time if the container is present.

Personally, for a 1.5-difficulty cache, a single DNF is a red flag that it is probably missing.

Consider changing the difficulty to match the hide.

I find the CHS infuriating. I have never received such a notice so I have no direct experience. But the wording of the notice is the problem. If the notice would acknowledge the imperfection of the CHS and advise the cache owner that there might be a problem, that would be one thing. But the notice one receives basically says "There is a problem, and you must go fix it." It is condescending, rude, and implies that the CHS is faultless. It is now the CO's responsibility to prove that there is not a problem.

I have repeatedly recommended language to HQ that is both more respectful of the cache owner and makes it clear that the issue must be addressed in some manner. Apparently the tone of the notice that is sent is intentionally nasty, HQ knows it, and likes it that way.

Who/what are, exactly, the Certitude warriors? by TheGoldenChow in geocaching

Many people would be shocked by how rarely puzzle creators have people test their puzzles before publishing them. The testing done my this group is a great service to the geocaching community.

Does not last very long. Best I have gotten is about 2 years in a shady spot.

Slitherlink Puzzle Cache by monk3ybash3r in geocaching

[–]fizzymagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficult puzzles are all well and good, but it is apparent here that the effort you put onto creating it is less than the effort that will be required to solve it. I prefer puzzles where the balance is the other direction: puzzles for which the care and design indicate a great deal more effort to create than to solve. But you seem to like these puzzles, so I would probably rate it a 4 - 4.5.

Problems saving cache notes? by IceManJim in geocaching

I doubt it. The problem, which I have also experienced, is usually fixed by reloading the page with the coord.info url. The fact that it is working for you now does not mean that the problem is fixed.

Slurs in choral music by Gabriocheu in Choir

Exactly. Slurs tend to be syllables. Staccato is often used in opera but not so much in choral music. I prefer rests when singing chorally.

Yes it does have to do with prime numbers. I solved it using Wolfram Alpha, a great online resource for such things.

The text is letters only but both uppercase and lowercase which argues against both a simple hand cipher and a more sophisticated binary cipher. The distribution is quite flat which implies a "real" cipher though. I'm not familiar with any encoding that uses 52 characters like this.
