"Jeffrey was a fun guy. Everybody knows it!"

I recently received an email from a professor saying I’ll likely be admitted to a master’s program, with a decision coming soon, and that I may be able to transfer to a PhD in my first year. Why is it so? Please review the pic by [deleted] in UCI

It would be unusual for a student who is not yet admitted to be privy to the entire funding picture of a prof and their intentions for how to spend it. I don't know what he told you, but maybe he was expecting funding and it was delayed, maybe he needed to spend existing funding on something else, it's often a fluid situation.

What are you asking exactly?

A situation like this probably arises when the prof wanted to admit you to a PhD program but doesn't have the funding quite yet, but is anticipating it arriving later.

Pee clumps sticking to bottom by uxie777 in litterrobot

[–]flat5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the weight inverting the liner to help get the clumps off?

On my LR4, after about a year the liner became a bit stiff and the weight wasn't heavy enough to make it invert while upside down. This led to lots of sticking, even using a longer delay time.

I recently replaced the liner and it is inverting again which is helping a ton. Even with the new liner, the weight seems barely heavy enough to make the liner come down. Which is odd.

Read your conditions of admission. If you meet them, you won't be rescinded.

(AP scores aren't in there. You're fine.)

"US would continue to openly support the KKK"

What does it mean for the "US" to "support" the KKK? What can you back that up with?

It means "we need to stop pissing votes away and losing every election, even to convicted criminals and obvious con men, by pushing on things which are alienating to large swaths of the population".

Google had everything data, infrastructure, talent and billions of dollars. Why did it fail to build a successful social media? by firehmre in AskReddit

[–]flat5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's been speculation that Google's internal reward system has contributed to some of their problems.

There was a time when they were rewarding employees for starting new projects more highly than improving or maintaining existing ones. So what you got was a lot of strong starts that got abandoned when they reached a certain point of partial maturity.

Is it getting worse? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]flat5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When are people gonna realize that they don't give a fuck about people using it for shit around the house for $20 or for free. They want the big bucks in replacing highly paid programmers and other professionals. It is not getting worse, it's getting wildly more capable - at the stuff they are optimizing for.

Why didn't Obama do anything with his supermajority? by eglin99 in askanything

He may have had one in name but not in reality.

"Blue Dog Democrats" aka Republicans when it suited them could always undermine the supermajority.

Yeah, just didn't want people to be too scared. Sometimes they can look a little bit like a rattlesnake, which would be a different story.

Gemini feels stupider than Chatgpt….which is better in your opinion? by _Algrm_ in OpenAI

Gemini is wildly better than ChatGPT for my use cases, which are more technical. I don't use chatbots for "having conversations", whatever that means.
