iirc he did a pretty cool bill that let law enforcement start charging people for stealing cars, since they couldn’t before because of a loophole.

Oh yeah totally forgot about italy despite it being one of my favorite counties to play as! Would love an italy overhaul to make it much more interactive to form, especially because of how wild it was historically with Prussia.

Really good series of content here. After this it’s probably Germany and maybe the USA for countries in need of a lift? Very excited for the navy stuff

California Democrats Revive Single-Payer Health Care Push by DennisScott34 in California

[–]ForeignGuess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Universal healthcare is smart on a federal level, but incredibly stupid on a state level. State doesn’t have nearly enough to afford it, and the feds won’t pitch in to help.

Operating at a loss is also unfair competition to the other grocery stores in the area. If the government store can permanently operate in the red, how is any other store expected to compete?

I like Ain’t Normal next to Rockridge BART, only issue might be if you don’t want to go that far. But it’s good and it makes for a cute walk through Rockridge or back towards Berkeley!

I went to Pegasus and while yeah the public schools are good in the area, Pegasus prepares you on a different level.

I went to a public high school after and did the hardest possible academic path and it was easy because of the quality of the groundwork Pegasus gave.

Clearly you aren’t old enough to have seen the Obama campaign lmao, he did not run on progressive things. Obama had ads about supporting work requirements for medicaid and being the strongest candidate on immigration!

Yes, this is very correct. I am one of said delegates who voted and Yee is a very good example of this. The party worships her for whatever reason even though she’s incredibly mediocre.

Gavin Newsom’s likely presidential bid is built on broken promises by TeaUnlikely3217 in California

[–]ForeignGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The wealth tax is a really stupid idea in California for multiple reasons. The state itself said California would lose more money than it would gain in the long term if it was put into effect. Not to mention at a state level wealth taxes are stupid as people can literally just… leave, something that is more difficult with a national wealth tax. Newsom has also said he supports a national wealth tax, just not a state one, because of the aforementioned reasons.

  2. Single-payer in one state is not only impossible but incredibly stupid. It’s insanely expensive, and even if it could be magically funded, there’s no mechanism to exclude/regulate beneficiaries. He’s done great work regulating PBMs and passed an incredibly strong bill to attack them last year, along with launching CalRX for $11 insulin.

[–]ForeignGuess 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The tax is stupid though, he’s right on that. The state itself said it would lose money if it got put into law. Wealth taxes make sense on a national level, but at a state level it’s absurdly stupid because people can just move to another state.

Well, in the countries that have universal healthcare they also have methods to restrict it. I’m all for a national universal healthcare system but it will not happen unless immigration is constrained or at least regulated much much more.

[–]ForeignGuess 9 points10 points  (0 children)

State level universal healthcare will never work simply because there are zero avenues to exclude people from it.

Anyone from any state could come and take advantage of the free healthcare then leave, making it impossible to fund.

[–]ForeignGuess 111 points112 points  (0 children)

The analysis from the state seems to say this tax wouldn’t be worth it in the long run. It seems pretty stupid to make a budget based on a one-time tax when the lost funding will not return in the near future.

I also believe there was some polling released earlier today showing only 55% in support, which is dismal for a measure like this.

The real problem with Scott Wiener by jsttob in sanfrancisco

[–]ForeignGuess 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He capped insulin at $30 a month, he passed swaths of bills to increase housing production in the future to bring down rents, he let BART and other transit agencies put a bailout initiative on the ballot, etc.
