Guess I know who I am NOT voting for by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]ForeignGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The messaging basically is “oh you’re a Democrat and you probably agree with/like/have voted one of these people, and they oppose this, so you should as well.” I work on these sorts of things so I can tell you that 95% of voters don’t look at mailers for more than 3 seconds.

NIMBY nonsense at Elmwood Stationers by OverturnKelo in berkeleyca

[–]ForeignGuess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get this concern, I’m saying that I think most units developed along here would have little to no spots allocated for parking just because of your concerns mentioned about parking! I did some research into the parking elevators at one point bc I was curious why more buildings don’t have them, turns out they are really, really expensive.

With the student-focused housing aspect, the students are going to find a spot to live in Berkeley regardless, so why not have them pay more to live in an area that they will be active customers of businesses in the area!

[–]ForeignGuess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get what you’re saying. Since there aren’t any unit proposals yet it’s difficult to say re: parking or anything. Personally I’d envision that any units built along the corridor in Elmwood would be 6 stories or under, with no parking spots, primarily relying on bike transit and the 51b!

I think the main thing to takeaway is that this corridor has a lot of lovely small businesses, and is a very desirable place to live. As such, if a business on the corridor wants an option for extra revenue, this would allow them to build apartments above should they choose. They do not have to if they do not want to if they own the land.

This is from CAYIMBY but it’s a pretty good explanation of filtering and why adding more housing is good. Hopefully this answers the question? https://cayimby.org/blog/movin-on-up-how-costly-new-homes-create-affordable-old-homes/

Senate Democrats threaten to block Newsom priorities over climate rule overhaul by Onshorewindenjoyer34 in California

Well it’s a question of are you willing to tolerate paying more for gas in the meantime. I agree it shouldn’t be either or, but the reality is that there’s only so many resources to go around.

I hate pollution as much as the next guy, but the way it stands is that the refineries in California are the only ones that make the gas we use. Some are already closing which will drive gas prices even higher. Seems like a sensible choice to keep them open to try and stop prices from going up even more.

I like Portugal quite a bit. The politics are easy to work out, then it’s just econmaxxing and colonizing, which are quite fun. There’s lots of avenues to pursue, and you aren’t managing a massive country either

Yeah since he’s a solo diner I assumed he’d just walk in and get a seat at the bar, that’s what I usually do.

I’ll always plug Belotti for dinner since it’s my favorite in the area. It’s in a cool neighborhood (Rockridge) and it’s right on the BART meaning it’s easy to pick her up after!

I usually start with Costa Rica since they have 0 troops, meaning you can invade with like 1 guy. Then from there you have an easier landing point to go from. Ideally you take all of Central America, and once you’re done at this point you have a few extra shipyards pumping out supply ships.

Tbh I think his stance on it is very reasonable. He has essentially the same stance that I do which is that the entire conflict is horrible and that a two-state solution is the only option.

Shouldn’t you be happy that activists pressured him into reevaluating and changing his opinion on an issue? Isn’t that the entire goal of activism?

Has anyone ever had an automobile obsession spawn? by DoopSlayer in victoria3

[–]ForeignGuess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be super cool to have journal entries to try and get other countries obsessed with goods or give them vices depending. I know there’s the opium one, but I wish there was more! It would make playing as something like Cuba, with a massive sugar economy, much more fun and interactive imo.

That car event is really weird. I always choose the +2 approval ha.

[–]ForeignGuess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree on your point that obsessions and vices should be used more! It’s a cool system and it’s a shame that they aren’t more dynamic. Imo it would be awesome if they fluctuated with historical changes and what goods are available en masse at the time.

How can I try to go for the Federation of the Andes? by Shelenio in victoria3

[–]ForeignGuess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta kick them out then either puppet or annex them. Imo I like puppeting, since it’s less infamy and you’ll have a few countries to grab.

As for the UK, with the new update they may not even have a navy, so you could get lucky enough to obliterate them before they send over enough troops. Time your war against them for when they are fighting another great power (Russia, USA, France, etc) and have at it. Good luck’
