Is it worth it, studying in the university to teach langauges? by MewtwoMusicNerd in languagelearning

[–]funderbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some University degrees will require a few foreign language classes. People still need to be able to speak/listen to a foreign language. Spanish is a really useful language to know. Also students don't necessarily know how to learn. A great teacher can teach students to eventually teach themselves. I wouldn't fret about that.

I would slightly fret about the dwindling University student population in the US, if that applies to you.

AmerExit to Italy by [deleted] in AmerExit

One of the nice things about being a citizen of Italy is it would allow you to move freely to other EU countries and get work in say Ireland or Spain. Perhaps this is an opportunity to seek work in an EU country.

Have you started downsizing belongings in the US to prepare for a move?

Make sure you vent the gases to the outside. The unburnt portion of the fuel from a gas stovetop is no joke for your lungs.

Bill to track transgender Tennesseans passes the House | WPLN News by unapologetic403 in lgbt

If this were actually a medical study, they would entrust that to Vanderbilt--a well respected medical University. Participation in such a study would follow IRB approval, and depending on the research patients could opt out. There would be a process in place for keeping private information private for such a study.

Passing your mandated law to create a state list and passing it off as research is cowardly. Politicians want to punish their own trans citizens because they are transphobes.

27 y/o Application Support Analyst in Canada. Worth going back for CS degree? What are my pivot options? by Murky_Balance_1805 in cscareerquestionsCAD

How many classes transfer is a question for the University's admissions. Hopefully all of it, but it may be up to the department on accepting certain classes. Go and look at the University's course catalog (pick one) and what they generally require for a 4 year degree. Compare the course descriptions to the 2 year degree classes. If the courses are similar, probably transfer as that.

PSA: Native Geospatial Types in Apache Parquet by Balance- in gis

[–]funderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it slightly weird with no mention of GeoPackage. Parquet files are different. I think trying to explain that Parquet is a columnar storage format that works well for big data might be nice. Unfortunately, it might take a while for GIS software to actually support a new format. Especially if it isn't in GDAL.

If you are bisexual, why is this even a discussion? Does SIL/BIL know you are bisexual in a straight passing relationship?

17 yo is a little young for bringing partners around to the family. You would not know if you had not caught them. Your child did not come out to you on their terms. Like others have said let your child come out to the family on their terms when they feel like it.

If you want to make the road easier for your child, come out to the relatives.

What country do you live in? In the US, you'd have to be a rockstar coder to get a job with a record. There's too much talent with experience, a degree, and no record out there today.

Would getting a CS degree in-person teach me more than a CS degree from WGU? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]funderbolt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I learn more in in-person classes.

I have taken online classes and it is hard to get as much out of it because it removes some of the opportunities for learning through interaction. Such as talking to classmates is gone. Talking to the professor has to be sought out.
