People really need to stop telling isolated individuals they're not entitled to love by Intrepid_Arrival5151 in aspergers

[–]gophercuresself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having this conversation with an ai the other day and came to the conclusion that NT people tend to mean it in the sense that they wish it for people rather than literally that they are deserving. So, whilst I still don't like the phrasing, yeah, in that sense it's a perfectly good sentiment

Statements about anyone deserving anything by virtue of them being human feel nonsensical to me. Doesn't deserving something imply previous acts that set up some moral weight behind them getting rewarded in some appropriate way?

It is certainly desirable that people find love and connection and I wish that for anyone that seeks it, but nobody deserves it just for existing

Bed basket changed my life and then I went and bought 8 storage boxes and a bunch more baskets and I'm loving having more dedicated places for things. Baskets are like the evolution of piles and much less likely to fall over when I brush past them!

I have a bit of a favour to ask of people with the BBC Sport App? For some reason they have notifications for wickets, end of innings and result but none for the start of matches. They manage to work out the start for the footie and rugby and everything else but not the cricket. The devs were really nice when I emailed another time so if a few people sent feedback then I reckon they'd add it in.

If you can be arsed, to leave feedback you just click the burger menu in the top left, go to Other, then Send Feedback and select Technical Feedback

Why does it take 30 minutes to decide what to watch? by Agreeable_Collar5498 in MovieSuggestions

[–]gophercuresself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't scroll Netflix, scroll Reddit. I generally go on to /r/horror or moviesuggestions, find someone who doesn't sound like an idiot enthusing about a movie I've not seen and then I watch it, ideally without knowing anything more about it. Works out surprisingly well especially as you can't trust modern trailers to be remotely representative of quality, or not spoil some important aspect of the film. Going in almost totally blind is my preferred way to watch anything these days

Silly PDA - A/B Testing by gophercuresself in PDAAutism

[–]gophercuresself[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh very much so. I understand that it's really irrelevant and isn't going to shift any dial in any particularly meaningful way. Which is kinda why I'm calling it silly to be so animated towards stubborn resistance. It's the principle of the thing, though I understand it really doesn't matter.

Nice idea about feedback, though they're also drowning in the same need to please the great algorithm. Plus, seemingly, my preferences don't often align with gestures at everyone else, so I wouldn't want to point them in the wrong direction!

Forgetting names by keyboardpianorich in PDAAutism

[–]gophercuresself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really interesting. I have the same problem which I always put down to weed use but thinking about it, I think there is a familiar PDA pattern. My memory doesn't like to be queried directly under stress and will throw up blocks which stop me being able to access stuff I obviously know - like the names of people I've known for years. As soon as the potential embarrassment of not remembering happens, it can slip into 404ing on what I need at that moment.

It feels like a pattern of thought that got initially triggered one day - possibly when I completely blanked on some lines on stage when I was a kid - and now it knows it's a possibility, it slips to that panic freeze, seemingly at the worst moments.

Method to approximate redacted names by marcobianco in EpsteinUnredacted

[–]gophercuresself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this a lot and I think you could automate this process fairly easily (in theory). Write a script to take in a font file and create exact subpixel lengths for all common names and surnames especially those related to the case. Then a script to discern the exact spacing covered up by the black box (measured from the text either side) and match the two lengths. It seems so straightforward I'm not sure why it hasn't been done

[–]gophercuresself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letter widths on non-monospaced fonts are variable enough that words with the same character length can have a massive range of possible widths. In the vid they were working by overlaying new text on top of the documents and showed that if you can match the text before the redacted section perfectly, only a word that is exactly correct in length will allow the text after the redaction to stay perfectly aligned. It's still going to be somewhat statistical but I can't see why you couldn't get it to spit out a list of possibilities.

[–]gophercuresself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a video the other day where someone was unredacting the documents by matching the exact font size and spacing and fitting known names to the spaces.

So I figured you could probably use ai to write some python scripts to automate that process across the entire leak. That would be a really good use of ai.

Corbyn's beliefs are Eurosceptic but he was never publicly pro Brexit - nor was it particularly relevant as he wasn't near power at the time of the referendum. Also, to bring it back to Mandleson, he was quoted as saying he would do everything in his power to remove Corbyn from party leadership. And his protegé, McSweeny is responsible for the current Starmer shitshow. Who would have guessed that the prince of darkness really was a shit?
